Abstract:PURPOSE: Investigate the resistance of Escherichia coli in intestine in healthy adults. METHODS: We determined the susceptibilities of Escherichia coli to 12 antibiotics in fecal samples from healthy adults Kirby - Bauer (K - B) test. RESULTS: All healthy subjects carried resistant strains of Escherichia coli. The percentages of strains selected at random resistant to trimethoprim, sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline, ampicillin were more than 20%, others less than 20%. The number of strains resistant to three or more antibiotics accounted for 27%. The Escherichia coli resistant to piperacillin or chloramphenicol or fluoroqinolones were all multiple antibiotic resistant strains. CONCLUSIONS: Improvement of sanitary habits and environment and rational use of antibiotics could remarkedly decrease the resistant level of Escherichia coli.
