Abstract:A theoretical investigation of the electronic excited states of Na-3 is presented by employing the multiple-scattering model. All the excited states are treated in a unified manner in the framework of quantum defect theory. For the relatively low excited states, our calculated transition energies are in good agreement with the experimental data and could help to assign the spectra bands. For the high excited states, we present the quantum defects for all Rydberg series, which call for further experimental verifications.

Abstract:We present a new three-dimensional global potential energy surface (PES) for the ground state of Na2F system. A total of about 1460 points were generated for the PES. All of the points have been carried out by using the coupled-cluster single-, double-, and perturbative triple-excitations [CCSD(T)]. Two Jacobi coordinates, R and θ , and the frozen molecular equilibrium geometries were used. We mixed the basis sets of aug-cc-pCVQZ for the sodium atom and the basis sets of aug-cc-pCVDZ for the fluorine atom with an additional (3s3p2d) set of midbond functions; the energies obtained were extrapolated to the complete basis set limit. The whole calculation adopted supramolecular approximation approach. We divided the potential energy surface into three regions, the peak region, the well region, and the long range region, and calculate the single point energy, respectively. Our ab initio calculations will be useful for future studies of the collision-induced absorption for the Na2-F dimer, and it can be used for modeling the dynamical behavior in Na2F system too.

Abstract:The structural, electronic, elastic and thermodynamic properties of α-phase Na3N under pressure are investigated by performing first principles calculations within generalized gradient approximation. The elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young's modulus, and Poisson's ratio dependencies on pressure are also calculated. The thermodynamic properties of the α-phase Na3N are calculated using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The dependencies of the heat capacity and the thermal expansion coefficient, as well as the Grüneisen parameter on pressure and temperature are investigated systematically in the ranges of 0–1GPa and 0–100K.

Abstract:The equilibrium structure and dissociation energy of NaH molecule at the ground state are calculated and optimized using quantum chemistry methods,CCSD(T)and QCISD(T) at the following basis sets:6-311++G(3DF,2PD), 6-311++G(3DF,2P),aug-cc-pvtz and cc-pvtz.The equilibrium nuclear distance agrees with experiment data.The analytic potential energy function of NaH at the ground state is derived by least-squares fitting to the function V=De(1+a1ρ+a2ρ2+a3ρ3)×exp(-a1ρ)-C6R-6,and the force constants and optical constants are calculated.The calculating results are in good agreement with the experiment data.

Abstract:In this work, accurate ab initio total-energy calculations were performed using the full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave (FP-LAPW) method to investigate the equilibrium structural, electronic, elastic and optical properties of doped and pristine Cu3N. The lattice parameters of Cu3NLa (4.299 Å) and Cu3NCe (4.246 Å) were found to be larger than that of Cu3N (3.834 Å), indicating that the doped Cu3N was transformed from a semiconductor into a conductor. The results for the elastic constants revealed that Cu3N, Cu3NLa and Cu3NCe all possess stable mechanical properties, suggesting that they are promising candidates for electronic and optical device applications.

Abstract:First-principles calculations are carried out to study the surface structure, energies, and electronic properties of Ni3Nb(100), Ni3Nb(001), and Ni3Nb(110) based on the density functional theory (DFT). The surface relaxation results reveal that the relaxations are mainly localized in the first and second atomic layer, and Ni3Nb(110)-Ni experiences the largest surface relaxation (-16.95%), whereas Ni3Nb(001)-NiNb undergoes smallest relaxations. The surface energies of nonstoichiometric surfaces present a linear relationship with the chemical potential of Ni (Delta mu(Ni)), while those of stoichiometric surface are independent of Delta mu(Ni). Furthermore, Ni3Nb(001)-Ni and Ni3Nb(001)-NiNb are the most stable surfaces owing to their having the lowest surface energy in a wide range of Delta mu(Ni), while the nonstoichiometric Ni3Nb(110)-Ni and Ni3Nb(110)-NiNb surfaces with the largest surface energies are the most unstable surfaces. The electronic structures of nonstoichiometric surfaces are different from that of the bulk Ni3Nb, whereas the effect of surface relaxation on the electronic properties of the stoichiometric surface is weak.

Abstract:The CASSCF/CASPT2 methods are used to study the low－lying electronic states of the NaCCH radi-cal.For the nine excited states of the NaCCH radical,the geometrical parameters,electron configurations,oscil-lator strengths,harmonic vibrational frequencies and excitation energies are calculated on the C2 vsymmetry.The results show that,for the ground state X1Σ+,the geometrical parameters and rotation coefficient are in agreement with other experimental reports,and the calculated harmonic vibrational modes are similar to other theoretical ones.Moreover,the HOMO and LUMO energy gap is 3.80 eV,which corresponds to the adiabatic excitation en-ergy of the state 13Σ+.In addition to the state 13Π,the other low－lying excited states are stable states,and the transition from the ground state to the triplet states is spin－forbidden one.

Abstract:The equilibrium geometries, vibrational frequencies, atomization energies, adiabatic electron separations, adiabatic detachment energies (E-AD), and adiabatic ionization potentials of the low-lying electronic states for the NaP4 clusters and its ions were investigated employing the DFT method, and then compared with the photoelectron spectra. According to the computed results, the reasonable assignments for the photoelectron spectra of NaP4- were suggested.

Abstract:Computational studies on the geometric, electronic, and spectroscopic properties of electronic states are presented for GaGe3, Ga3Ge, and their ions using the CASSCF and DFT(B3LYP)/CCSD(T)/QCISD(T) techniques. The optimized geometries of electronic states, vibrational frequencies, energy separations, Mulliken populations, ionization energies, electron affinities, binding energies are obtained. The anion photoelectron spectra of GaGe3− and Ga3Ge− are predicted. In addition, the results from the low-lying states of GaGe3 and Ga3Ge are compared with those of GaSi3 and Ga3Si. Results demonstrate that the equilibrium geometries of most electronic states of GaGe3, Ga3Ge, and their ions exhibit Jahn-Teller distortion. It is interesting to find that there is not charge transfer between Ga and Ge atoms upon an electron attachment to the ground states of GaGe3 and Ga3Ge, while the amount of charge transfer between Ga and Ge atoms significantly increases upon an electron ionization from the ground state of Ga3Ge.

Abstract:The electronic structure of CdSe, CdTe and SnSe are studied using the first-principle scalar-relativistic LMTO-ASA method in the local-density approximation. In the calculation, extra "empty" spheres are introduced on high-symmetry interstitial sites in zinc-blende crystal structure and NaCl crystal structure, and a correction for the leading non-spherical component of the crystal potential is incorporated. The calculated results are compared with the experiment and other non-self consistent calculation.

Abstract:We report density functional theory calculations on the crystal structure, elastic, lattice dynamics and electronic properties of iso-structural layered monoclinic alkali azides, LiN3 and NaN3. The effect of van der Waals interactions on the ground- state structural properties is studied by using various dispersion corrected density functionals. Based on the equilibrium crystal structure, the elastic constants, phonon dispersion and phonon density of states of the compounds are calculated. The accurate energy band gaps are obtained by using the recently developed Tran Blaha-modified Becke Johnson (TB-mBJ) functional and found that both the azides are direct band gap insulators.

Abstract:The energies, equilibrium geometries and harmonic frequencies of the triplet excited states (a3Σu+ and b3Πu) of spin-aligned trimer 7Li2 are firstly calculated by using a symmetry adapted cluster-configuration interaction method. The potential curves for the two excited states have least squares fitted by the Murrell–Sorbie function. The spectroscopic data (Be, αe, ωe and ωe χe) and the force constants (f2, f3 and f4) are calculated. It is found that the spin-aligned triplet excited state b3Πu is more stable than the ground state X1Σg+ and that the Murrell–Sorbie function form is suitable not only for the ground state but also for the spin-aligned triplet excited states. Comparison between the theoretical determinations of dissociation energies, equilibrium interatomic distances and harmonic frequencies with the experimental data about a3Σu+ and b3Πu clearly shows that the present work represents a significant improvement in agreement between theories and experiments.
Computational study of structural, electronic and optical properties of crystalline NH$_4$N$_3$

Abstract:A systematic computational study on the structural, electronic, bonding, and optical properties of orthorhombic ammonium azide (NH$_4$N$_3$) has been performed using planewave pseudopotential (PW-PP) method based on density functional theory (DFT). Semiempirical dispersion correction schemes have been used to account for non-bonded interactions in molecular crystalline NH$_4$N$_3$. The ground state lattice parameters and fractional co-ordinates obtained using the dispersion correction schemes are in excellent agreement with experimental results. We calculated the single crystal elastic constants of NH$_4$N$_3$ and its sensitivity is interpreted through the observed ordering of the elastic constants (C$_{33}$ $>$ C$_{11}$ $>$ C$_{22}$). The electronic structure and optical properties were calculated using full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) approach with recently developed functional of Tran-Blaha modified Becke-Johnson (TB-mBJ) potential. The TB-mBJ electronic structure shows that NH$_4$N$_3$ is a direct band gap insulator with a band gap of 5.08 eV, while the calculated band gap with standard generalized gradient approximation is found to be 4.10 eV. The optical anisotropy is analyzed through the calculated optical constants namely dielectric function and refractive index along three different crystallographic axes. The absorption spectra reveal that NH$_4$N$_3$ is sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) light. Further, we also analyzed the detonation characteristics of the NH$_4$N$_3$ using the reported heat of formation and calculated density. NH$_4$N$_3$ is found to have a detonation velocity of 6.45 km/s and a detonation pressure about 15.16 GPa computed by Kamlet-Jacobs empirical equations.

Abstract:A potential energy surface for the electronic ground state of N2O is optimized using a variational procedure with an exact vibrational Hamiltonian. In the optimization, the ab initio force field of Martin, Taylor and Lee is taken as a starting point, and the observed vibrational band origins up to 15000 cm−1 reported by Campargue and co-workers are involved. The RMS error of this fitting to the 60 observed Σ state vibrational energy levels is 0.34 cm−1. The rovibrational energy levels for the Σ and Π vibrational states are calculated to test the refined potential.

Abstract:The microscopic chemical environment of Na in Na3V2(PO4)(3) was observed and analyzed using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. The results demonstrated that Na in the two chemical environments in Na3V2(PO4)(3) corresponded to the signal peaks between 80 and 16 ppm in the Na-23 NMR spectrum. The peak at around -11 ppm was assigned to impurities, possibly containing sodium carbonate. On basis of the new assignment, the Na-23 spectra of Na3V2(PO4)(3) under different charging and discharging conditions were investigated and well explained.

Abstract:The globally accurate potential energy surface (PES) for the ground-state of Li 2 F and Na 2 F clusters by the coupled-cluster singles and doubles excitation approach with perturbative treatment of triple excitations[CCSD(T)] were present. The total of about 2080 points were generated for the three-dimensional surfaces. Both the Li 2 F and Na 2 F molecule was confirmed to be bent at equilibrium.The Li-F-Li angle of 90° the depth of potential well is -6.267eV at R =2 a 0 and the barrier to linearity of Li-Li-F angle of 0° the height of the barrierl is 285.76eV at R =2.6 a 0. The Na-F-Na angle of 90° the depth of potential well is -5.3061eV at R =3 a 0 and the barrier to linearity of Na-Na-F angle of 0° the height of the barrierl is 721eV at R =2.6 a 0.
Doubly Excited 1 3∑−g State of Na2: Observation and Calculation

Abstract:The v=0–57 levels of the 3p+3p doubly excited 1 3∑−g state of Na2 have been observed by pulsed perturbation facilitated optical–optical double resonance (PFOODR) fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. The Tv=57=39 943.5 cm−1 of the 1 3∑−g state is 385 cm−1 above the X 2∑+g v+=0, J+=0 ionization threshold and 9 cm−1 below the Na (3p,2P3/2)+Na(3p,2P1/2) dissociation limit. No significant line broadening was observed above the X 2∑+g v+=0, J+=0 ionization threshold with our resolution. Molecular constants and the Rydberg–Klein–Rees (RKR) potential curve have been obtained from the observed data. The major constants are Te=36 519.13(17) cm−1, ωe=93.635(41) cm−1, and Be=0.118 95(90) cm−1. We have carried out an all-electron ab initio calculation for the 1 3∑−g state and transition dipole moment for the 1 3∑−g↔b 3Πu system of Na2. Molecular constants calculated from our ab initio potential curve have reasonable agreement with the experimental constants.

Abstract:Context: Energy-containing materials such as explosives have attracted considerable interest recently. In the field of high-energy materials, tetrazine and its derivatives can largely meet the requirements of high nitrogen content and oxygen balance. Nitrogen-rich energetic salts are important research subjects. Nitrogen-rich salt of 3,6-dinitramino-1,2,4,5-tetrazine is a high-energy nitrogen-rich material, but there are few related studies. This paper systematically studies the crystal structure and electronic, vibrational, and thermodynamic properties of (NH4)2(DNAT). The lattice parameters of (NH4)2(DNAT) are observed to align well with the experimental values. The properties of electrons are analyzed by band structure and density of states (DOS). The phonon dispersion curves indicate that the compound is dynamically stable. The vibrational modes of bonds and chemical groups are described in detail, and the peaks in the Raman and infrared spectra are assigned to different vibration modes. Based on the vibration characteristics, thermodynamic properties such as enthalpy (H), Helmholtz free energy (F), entropy (S), Gibbs free energy (G), constant volume heat capacity (CV), and Debye temperature (Θ) are analyzed. This article can pave the way for subsequent work or provide data support to other researchers, promoting further research. Methods: In this study, we utilized the density functional theory (DFT) for our calculations. The exchange-correlation potential and van der Waals interactions were characterized based on the GGA-PBE + G function calculation. We obtained Brillouin zone integrals using Monkhorst-Pack k-point grids, with the k-point of the Brillouin zone set to a 2 × 2 × 2 grid. During the self-consistent field operation, we set the total energy convergence tolerance to 5 × 10-6 eV per atom. The cut-off energy for the calculation was established at 830 eV. Additionally, the states of H (1s1), C (2s2 2p2), N (2s2 2p3), and O (2s2 2p4) were treated as valence electrons in our study.

Abstract:Local spin-density-functional calculations are performed to study the geometric and electronic structure of PbNa6 clusters. Three possible isomeric structures are examined. Both the electronic and the geometric factors are shown to be important to the stabilization of the cluster and the most stable structure is found to be a tricapped tetrahedron. The electronic structure of this cluster indicates that the metallic bonding interaction of delocalized electrons is responsible for the exceptional stability of the cluster.
