Abstract:A new robust adaptive control of uncertain nonlinear systems is proposed in this paper. The proposed method combines sliding mode control with the immersion and invariance (I&I) adaptive scheme, and it has more available degrees of freedom than using the backstepping scheme. Via the proposed method, a class of nonlinear systems with mismatched parametric perturbations can be rendered asymptotically stable and the performance of the system can also be improved. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a simple pendulum with motor dynamics, and simulation results show the effectiveness and performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this technical note, a robust adaptive control scheme is proposed based on backstepping techniques for a class of nonlinear systems with unknown parameters. A modeling error may also exist in every state equation or channel and it is bounded by a known function which is allowed to depend on all system states. It is shown that the proposed adaptive control scheme can ensure all signals in the closed-loop system bounded, if the strength of system modeling errors is sufficiently weak. Transient performance is also established. Thus stabilizing systems in classical strict-feedback forms with sufficiently small non-triangular structural perturbations is successfully addressed. In the case that system parameters are known, a non-adaptive robust controller is designed to globally exponentially stabilize such a class of nonlinear systems. Finally simulation studies are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
Decentralized Adaptive Iterative Learning Control for Interconnected Systems with Uncertainties

Abstract:In many applications, the system dynamics allows the decomposition into lower dimensional subsystems with interconnections among them. This decomposition is motivated by the ease and flexibility of the controller design for each subsystem. In this paper, a decentralized model reference adaptive iterative learning control scheme is developed for interconnected systems with model uncertainties. The interconnections in the dynamic equations of each subsystem are considered with unknown boundaries. The proposed controller of each subsystem depends only on local state variables without any information exchange with other subsystems. The adaptive parameters are updated along iteration axis to compensate the interconnections among subsystems. It is shown that by using the proposed decentralized controller, the states of the subsystems can track the desired reference model states iteratively. Simulation results demonstrate that, utilizing the proposed adaptive controller, the tracking error for each subsystem converges along the iteration axis.

Abstract:Discusses approximate modelling and adaptive control of discrete time linear time-varying systems (LTVS). A novel model, the representation of LTVS in the wavelet time-frequency space, is established based on discrete wavelet transforms. The joint time-frequency properties of wavelet analysis are appropriate for describing the nonstationary characteristic of LTVS. In this model parameter estimation is fulfilled by means of some algebraic calculations. Finally, an adaptive predictive control scheme is proposed based on this representation. Abstract:An adaptive iterative learning control method is proposed for a class of nonlinear strict-feedback discrete-time systems with random initial conditions and iteration-varying desired trajectories. An n-step ahead predictor approach is employed to estimate the future states in the control design. Discrete Nussbaum gain method is utilised to deal with the lack of a priori knowledge of control directions. The proposed control algorithm guarantees the boundedness of all the signals in the controlled system. The tracking error converges to zero asymptotically along the iterative learning axis except for beginning states affected by random initial conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified through numerical simulation.

Abstract:The adaptive asymptotic tracking control problem for a class of stochastic non-strict-feedback switched nonlinear systems is addressed in this paper. For the unknown continuous functions, some neural networks are used to approximate them online, and the dynamic surface control (DSC) technique is employed to develop the novel adaptive neural control scheme with the nonlinear filter. The proposed controller ensures that all the closed-loop signals remain semiglobally bounded in probability, at the same time, the output signal asymptotically tracks the desired signal in probability. Finally, a simulation is made to examine the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:This paper addresses the random time-delays and packet losses issues of networked control systems (NCS) within the framework of jump linear systems with mode-dependent time-delays. A new delay-dependent condition on the stochastic stability is proposed by a new stochastic Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. The condition is formulated as a set of coupled linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) . As an example to verify the proposed method, an inverted-pendulum system with network is considered. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:In this article, an extension of the ℒ1 adaptive control design is introduced for a class of non-affine Multi-Input Multi-Output nonlinear systems with unknown dynamics and unmeasured states. The system dynamics is represented in the normal form with the bounded-input-bounded-output internal dynamics. At first, a stable virtual reference counterpart is constructed. Thereafter, a piece-wise continuous adaptive law is introduced to the actual system along with a low-pass filtered control signal that allows for achieving arbitrarily close tracking of the input and the output signals of the reference system. Rigorous mathematical proof is provided, and the theoretical results are verified with the simulation.

The designed event-triggered adaptive control can guarantee that all the closed-loop signals are globally bounded and the tracking error converges to a compact set. Abstract:A direct adaptive tracking control architecture is proposed for a class of continuous-time nonlinear dynamic systems, for which an explicit linear parameterization of the uncertainty in the dynamics is either unknown or impossible. The architecture employs fuzzy systems to approximate the optimal controller which is designed on the assumption that all the dynamics in the system are known, develops fuzzy sliding controller to compensate for the plant uncertainties, smooth the control signals and increase robustness. Global asymptotic stability is established in the Lyapunov sense, with the tracking errors converging to a neighborhood of zero. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

Abstract:This paper investigates the stabilization of a wave equation with uncertain boundary actuator dynamics. The remarkable characters of the system under investigation are revealed by the essential nonlinearities involved in the boundary actuator and the serious parametric unknowns coming from anti-damping coefficient at uncontrolled boundary and those in the actuator, which result into the incapability of the traditional control methods on this topic. For this, a novel adaptive control strategy is proposed in this paper. Specifically, a Riemann variables based state transformation is first introduced to change the original system into a new one whose stabilization implies that of the original system. Then, a state-feedback controller joint with some adaptive laws which are smartly chosen for the compensation of unknown parameters is explicitly designed by a finite-dimensional backstepping procedure. Owing to the compensation of boundary actuator dynamics, the performance analysis of the closed-loop system is more complicated than that of the related literature. For this, a rigorous recursive step is given to show the stability of the resulting closed-loop system. Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results.

Abstract:In this research, the problem of direct adaptive fuzzy control based on state feedback for a class of non-affine stochastic nonlinear systems with time delay is considered. Fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) and mean value theorem are utilized to overcome the design difficulties appeared in the unknown nonlinearities and non-affine structure, respectively. With the utilization of adaptive control and backstepping design framework, a direct adaptive fuzzy control method is developed. Through Lyapunov analysis, the presented controller can guarantee that the variables in the closed-loop system are all bounded in the fourth-moment, in the mean time, the output signal can track the given reference signal by appropriately selecting the design parameters. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the correctness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper focuses on adaptive fuzzy tracking control for a class of uncertain single-input /single-output nonlinear strict-feedback systems. Fuzzy logic systems are directly used to approximate unknown and desired control signals and a novel direct adaptive fuzzy tracking controller is constructed via backstepping. The proposed adaptive fuzzy controller guarantees that the output of the closed-loop system converges to a small neighborhood of the reference signal and all the signals in the closed-loop system remain bounded. A main advantage of the proposed controller is that it contains only one adaptive parameter that needs to be updated online. Finally, an example is used to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Stability analysis of neural-network-based nonlinear control has presented great difficulties. For a class of affine nonlinear systems with uncertainties, we employed nonlinear-parameter-neural-networks (NPNN) to approximate online the unknown nonlinearities, estimate online the NPNN approximation error's bound, and then succeeded in designing the control law and the adaptive laws of NPNN's weights and the NPNN approximation error's bound. The stability of the closed-loop is proved by using Lyapunov theory. Simulation results show that the controller we proposed exhibits excellent tracking performance

Abstract:This paper studies the problem of data-driven control for discrete-time piecewise affine (PWA) systems. Based on a sequel of sampled control inputs and states with satisfactory rank conditions, the closed loop dynamics of PWA systems can be represented and therefore the explicit information of system matrices is not needed in system stability analysis and controller synthesis processes. First, via S-procedure, system stability analysis results have been obtained, and then, two novel data-driven controller design methods in the form of linear matrix inequalities and equations have been proposed such that the resulting closed loop system is asymptotically stable. For PWA systems with unknown state space partition information, an online data-driven control method has been further proposed to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the resulting closed loop systems. Finally, simulation studies of two examples have been given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed data-driven controller design approaches.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel online data-driven adaptive control for unknown linear time-varying systems. Initialized with an empirical feedback gain, the algorithm periodically updates this gain based on the data collected over a short time window before each update. Meanwhile, the stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed in detail, which shows that under some mild assumptions, the proposed online data-driven adaptive control scheme can guarantee practical global exponential stability. Finally, the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by numerical simulations and its performance is compared with other control algorithms for unknown linear time-varying systems.

Abstract:In this paper, two adaptive fuzzy control schemes for a class of nonlinear systems are proposed. Each scheme employs a fuzzy control with an adaptive law, and a compensation control. It is proved that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable based on Lyapunov synthesis approach while the identification of the controlled plant is unnecessary. Finally, these schemes are applied to control a chaotic system. The simulation results show that our schemes are superior to the scheme of [12].

Abstract:This paper studies the fixed-time fuzzy adaptive tracking control problem for a class of uncertain strict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown virtual control coefficients (UVCCs), full state constraints and external disturbances. A novel barrier Lyapunov function is constructed to overcome the UVCCs and the state constraints simultaneously. Fuzzy-logic systems are implemented to approximate uncertain nonlinear functions of the system. Using fuzzy-logic systems and the first-order filter, the dynamic surface control is combined with backstepping design to tackle the problem of computational complexity. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, a fixed-time fuzzy controller is designed such that not only the closed-loop system is practically fixed-time stable but also the tracking error converge to a small neighborhood of the origin. It is shown that the settling time of the proposed control method is independent of the initial conditions of the controlled system. At last, a simulation example of a single-link robot manipulator is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented scheme.
