Abstract:Identifiability analysis is the theoretical basis of load identification, and can raise efficiency of identification in practical application. This paper surveys the approaches to identifiability analysis of electric load models. The basic concepts and definitions of identifiability, and approaches to identifiability analysis for linear systems models are introduced first. Then two new methods for nonlinear systems are developed i.e. linearization method and contour line method. The results of identifiability analysis for some main load models are given.

Abstract:Composite induction motor load models are long studied in power systems. However, the identifiability problem of the load model, i.e. whether the parameters could be identified with the measured data, is not studied. It is found that the 3rd order composite induction motor load model is structural unidentifiable with pre-steady and dynamic response, but identifiable with adding post-steady. Both theoretical analysis and case studies approve the conclusions. Then a genetic algorithm is applied for estimating the parameters of the load model. Practical applications are reported.

Abstract:The load model of induction motor is usually described by a utility model,in which the voltage phase and q-axis voltage component are neglected due to measurement reasons.The conditions for neglecting the q-axis voltage component were analyzed in this paper,and the results showed that the conditions can't be satisfied in most cases.Then the model with both d-axis and q-axis voltage components considered were proposed to identify the load parameters.Simulation results showed that the proposed model can achieve more accurate parameter comparing to the models with the voltage phase and q-axis voltage component neglected.

Abstract:Induction motor models are among the basis for power system dynamic computations and stability analysis. Several models have been presented such as the third order mechanical-electrical transient model, the first order mechanical transient model and the first order voltage transient model. This paper compares the three composite induction motor load models for power system stability purpose from the aspects such as accuracy, parameter acquiring and application. This is beneficial to understanding and using the models.

Abstract:To solve the uncertainty in electric load parameter identification, some improvements were proposed as follows: firstly, load parameters were divided into important parameters and unimportant parameters, only the important parameters were necessary to be estimated while the unimportant parameters can be substituted with their default values in programs; secondly, the general method for selecting the initial searching space of parameter was given; thirdly, making some instructions for power base, the parameters basing on the power of induction motor must be transformed into the values basing on the system power base when incorporating induction motor in system; fourthly, a criteria for choosing the model type was proposed. The measured load parameters in Henan Power Gird and Jiangsu Power Grid are given to illustrate the validity of above improvements.

Abstract:A Synthesis Load Model (SLM) including both the power load and the distribution network has been proposed in the references. The identifiability of SLM is analyzed at first, it is concluded that the model parameters are identifiable if one of the resistance, reactance and the ratio of them is known. The conclusion is validated through a simulation example. A strategy for parameter identification of SLM is proposed with the combination of the component based approach and the measurement based approach. During parameter identification, only the key parameters playing very important roles in the dynamics of the load and the system are estimated, while the other parameters playing limited role are set as the default values. The proposed strategy is verified by the field measurements.

Abstract:The identifiability problem of synchronous generator models is introduced and studied for the first time. Emphasis is placed on the composite stability model and BPA model. It is concluded that the electrical parameters can be identified uniquely, however, the rotator mechanical parameters may not be identified uniquely. The theoretical results are the same as those drawn from practical tests. The study lays a foundation for studying on identification methods of synchronous generator.

Abstract:Dynamic equivalent (DE) can reduce the computing effort and manifest the main characteristics. Two DE models are developed and their identifiability is studied. The results show that some parameters of the equivalent model are unidentifiable if only using the data of steady state before and during disturbance, but if the information of the steady state after disturbance is taken into account in addition, all the parameters will be identifiable.

But the accuracy and simplicity often contradict each other, so that we have to make compromises between them. This paper describes a simplified practical model for composite loads. Abstract:The identifiability problems of a simple power system can be solved by analytical approaches. But for large-scale power systems, it is very difficult. The relationship between the parameter identifiability and sensitivity is revealed, and the method is proposed, in which the parameter identifiability is judged by the phase angles of the sensitivities, and the key identifiable parameters are selected according to the magnitudes of the sensitivities. Finally the key identifiable parameters are optimized with ant colony algorithm. An example validates the feasibility of the above method. New method for on-line modelling of electric loads

Abstract:A novel approach to the electric load modelling was put forward, which can simultaneously identify both the dynamic and static characteristics of loads by the information measured at the substations through a microcomputer-based identifying system. The approach and its corresponding formulas are quite simple, and the results from both the simulative calculation and the experiment in lab or the test on the spot all show the feasibility of the new approach.

Abstract:In order to more comprehensively and accurately represent the load area with a distribution network,a synthetic load model(SLM)has been reported in literature.This paper presents an analysis of the identifiability of the SLM and the conclusion that,if the distribution reactance or resistance or the ratio of one to the other is known,the parameters are identifiable.The tests on a simulation system and a practical system have verified the theoretical results.

Abstract:Difference equation based on load model is generally adopted in power system. However, the parameters of the model are often attained by identification method, which leads to the absence of mechanism. In this paper, the authors analytically derive the parameters of difference equation based load model incorporating the induction motor load and static load. Based on the analytical parameters, mechanism of difference equation based load model is analyzed and discussed. Through the simulation and analysis, the paper makes a comparison about the accuracy and relation of model parameters, and the results show that the analytical derivation mechanism model not only has a certain mechanism, but also has good adaptability. In particular, the relation of model parameters make a theoretical support for the reasonability of parameters, and support the verification for the parameters.

Abstract:In order to analyze the load characteristics in areas where a large amount of air conditioners is included in summer,a method for load modeling including air conditioners is proposed.While air conditioner ratio is a vitally important parameter,a computation method is used to obtain the ratio for each type of load in different districts.To confirm the load model which is adapted to the air conditioner load,the parameters with real measured data using synthetic induction motor model and pure induction motor model are identified,and their dynamic responses are compared respectively.The results show that under normal disturbances,the synthetic induction motor model is preferred to pure induction motor model as air conditioner load model.

Abstract:The composite load model with an induction motor in parallel with a static load has been studied and applied in analysis of dynamics of power systems for a long time. However, the load parameters from field tests are still very limited. Based on the theoretical results of identifiability and estimation methodology of load parameters that have been achieved in the previous work, a project of load modelling based on field measurements is described. Eight sets of equipment for load modelling were installed in HeNan Electric Power Grid (HNEPG) Corporation, and the dynamics of the load were recorded and a dynamic index is proposed to evaluate the dynamic characteristics of the data measured. The load models derived from the field measurements are applied to stability analysis of HNEPG. The critical clearing time and power transfer capability analyses illustrate the enhancement of the stability analysis of the power grid using the load parameters derived from the field measurements and show the benefits of application of such model parameters in power system dynamic analysis.

Abstract:In the traditional load model, motor and static loads are used to represent electrical equipment. However, since the electrical equipment using power electronic interface has accounted for a large proportion at present, the load components should be divided into motor, static load and power-electronic-interfaced load. The composition of the electric load is time-varying, and mastering the proportion of different load components is the key to establish an accurate load model. The existing load component proportion identification method identifies the key parameters of the load model and motor proportion parameters under large disturbances. However, the accuracy of this method is affected by the accuracy of load model parameters; moreover, it cannot identify the proportion of three types of load components. To this end, based on the analysis of different response characteristics of motor, static load and power-electronic-interfaced load under large disturbance, this paper proposes a load component proportion identification method based on dynamic response under large disturbance. This method first determines the proportion of static load according to the drop value of active power of load during the duration of large disturbance; then, the proportion of power-electronic-interfaced load is determined according to the separation results of motor response and the highest fitting accuracy; finally, the proportion of motor load can be calculated. The case study shows that the method does not depend on other parameters in the load model and has high identification accuracy.

Abstract:Taking the advantage of strong convergence of the Newton method,we introduce the first-order sensitivity and second-order sensitivity to the method,and propose the Newton parameter identification method based on the second-order sensitivity. We applied the proposed method to parameter identification of electric loads. Through simulation,we compared the proposed method with the PSO algorithm. The results show that the proposed method has higher identification precision,utilizes a smaller amount of calculation,and is more robust.

Abstract:With economic development, the proportion of inverter air conditioners in load components has been increasing year by year. To analyze the influence of inverter air conditioners on the safe and stable operation of the power grid, the dynamic characteristics of an inverter air conditioner must be accurately characterized in the load model. At present, the synthetic load model (SLM) directly considering the distribution network is recommended in the power system simulation analysis, among which the static load model and the motor model are used to characterize the electrical equipment. Based on the voltage sag experimental results of a single inverter air conditioner, the key parameters of SLM are identified in cooling mode, heat pump mode and electric auxiliary heating mode, and the feasibility of SLM to characterize the load including inverter air conditioner is verified. The possible problems and solutions when using SLM to characterize the traditional load and inverter air conditioning load are discussed.

Abstract:The identification of load model parameters from practical measurement data has become an essential method to build load models for power system simulation, analysis and control. In practical situations, the accuracy of the load model parameters identification results is impacted by data quality and measurement accuracy, which leads to the problem of identifiability. In this paper, an identifiability analysis methodology of load model parameters, by estimating the confidential intervals (CIs) of the parameters, is proposed. The load model structure and the combined optimization and regression method to identify the parameters are first introduced. Then, the definition and analysis method of identifiability are discussed. The CIs of the parameters are estimated through the profile likelihood method, based on which a practical identifiability index (PII) is defined to quantitatively evaluate identifiability. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed analysis approach is validated by the case study results in a practical provincial power grid. The results show that the impact of various disturbance magnitudes, measurement errors and data length can all be reflected by the proposed PII. Furthermore, the proposed PII can provide guidance in data length selection in practical load model identification situations.
