Abstract:Using many-body perturbation theory, we have the calculation for resonance structure (2s --> 3p) into the main lines and satellite lines in photoionization for neutral sodium. This resonance structure results from the interference between a main line or a satellite line and a resonant Auger process. The coupled equation method has been improved to calculate this interference by the summation of specific classes of diagrams of perturbation theory to infinite order. The theoretical results are in good agreement with experiment.

Abstract:Multiphoton ionization of the Na2 molecule by a single phase shaped fem- tosecond laser pulse has been theoretically studied using time-dependent quantum wave packet method including the effect of molecular rotation. We analyze the tempo- ral development of the population and further discuss the molecular motion by map- ping the rovibrational wave packet propagation in the excited state. The calculated results show a strong dependence of the kinetic energy-resolved photoelectron spectra on the laser chirp directions and the pulse duration. PACS: 33.80.Rv

Abstract:Coherence relaxation in Na vapor was studied utilizing a pump-probe method with femtosecond pulses. The coherence was created by the pump pulse, which excited the Na atoms to the 4S state. The atoms were further excited to the 7P state by the probe pulse. As a result a coherent UV radiation was emitted by the atoms. This emission was used to study the relaxation of both the 4S-3S and 7P-3S coherent superpositions. The relaxation is mainly due to collisions with the Ar atoms serving as a buffer gas. Coherence relaxation times and collisional cross-sections for the Na-Ar collision pairs were extracted experimentally.

Abstract:We report the observation of the electromagnetically induced inhibition of two-photon absorption with atomic sodium vapor as a test medium. A 60% reduction of two-photon resonant absorption was recorded at the 3S-4D transition when a cw coupling laser was applied at the 3P-5S transition.

Abstract:The interaction of electrons and atomic sodium was studied by using the momentum space coupled-channel optical method at low-impact energies. Total scattering cross sections have been calculated, and negative-ion resonances have been located. The present calculation results are in good agreement with available experimental data and previous theoretical results. We have obtained resonance features at 4.166 and 4.502 eV and also found possible resonance structures near the ionization threshold in the total cross sections.

Abstract:This paper demonstrates non-intrusive measurements of sodium argon ion cluster recombinations with electrons, based on coherent microwave scattering (Radar) from REMPI (Resonance Enhanced Multi-Photon Ionization). The sodium number density in the sodium argon mixture was determined by the direct absorption measurement. A tunable laser beam resonantly ionizes the sodium atoms by 2+1 REMPI process in the mixture of sodium and argon at various pressures of 1 Torr to atmospheric pressure and temperatures of 300K to ~800K. Since the plasma is mainly made of sodium ions in the mixture, the sodium argon ion clusters are thus formed by the Chaperone process. Abstract:The laser induced selective excitation for a three-state model of the Na2 molecule is theoretically investigated by using the time-dependent wavepacket method. Employing a pair of ultrashort laser pulses of varying intensities, the vibrational population can be selectively transferred between different electronic states. The selective excitation can also be achieved by controlling the delay time between the pump and probe pulses. The dynamics processes of the selective excitation are qualitatively described via the concept of light-induced potentials.

Abstract:In the sodium dimer rhomb-type four-level system with a pair of coherent superposition levels, the interference enhancement of two-photon absorption caused by coherent superposition of the coupling levels is experimentally observed. Abstract:Multiphoton ionization of sodium by laser pulses of 800 nm wavelength and 57 fs duration is studied in the range of laser peak intensities belonging to over-the-barrier ionization regime. Photoelectron momentum distributions (PMD) and the energy spectra are determined numerically by solving the time dependent Schrödinger equation. The calculated spectra agree well with the spectra obtained experimentally by Hart et al. [Phys. Rev. A 93, 063426 (2016)]. The contributions of photoelectrons with different values of the orbital quantum number in the PMD are determined by expanding the photoelectron wave function in terms of partial waves. Partial wave analysis of the spectral peaks related to Freeman resonances has shown that each peak has photoelectron contributions from different ionization channels which are characterized by different photoelectron energies and different symmetries of released photoelectron wave-packets. These findings are justified by calculating the populations of excited states during the pulse. Our analysis indicates that the contribution of specific ionization channels in the total photoelectron yield might be selectively increased by varying to some extent the values of pulse parameters used here.

Abstract:The 2s inner shell photoionization (PI) of Na and Auger decay of 1s(2)2s(2)p(6)3s state in Na+ were investigated using single-configuration and multiconfiguration (MC) approximation methods. The PI cross sections from MC calculations showed excellent agreement with experimental and previous theoretical values. The configuration interaction between 1s(2)2s(2)p(6)3s and 1s(2)2s(2)p(6)4s states was essential in predicting PI cross sections. Moreover, configuration interaction played a prominent role in determination of the Auger lifetime widths of Na+ 1s(2)2s(2)p(6)3s (S-1(0)) compared with the experiment.

Abstract:The low energy scattering of electrons by sodium at incident energies up to ionization threshold are calculated by applying the momentum space coupled-channel-optical (CCO) method. The present results are in good agreement with the previous experimental and theoretical results. Abstract:Photoelectron spectra of sub-valence 2p resonance ionization in sodium atoms have been studied employing the multi-configuration Dirac–Fock (MCDF) method. Special interest has been focused on the satellite lines arising from the 3s→3p conjugate shake-up transitions. It has been found that the agreement between our theoretical results and the measured spectra is good if the rearrangement of the residual bound-state electron density is taken into account. By means of large-scale MCDF calculations, the competing spin–orbit and Coulomb interactions have been evaluated satisfactorily to reproduce the experimental shake-up satellite spectra.

Abstract:We report on an experimental observation of constructive quantum interference between two atomic transition pathways 3P1/2-5S (or 4D) and 3P3/2-5S (or 4D) via equal-frequency hybrid excitation and collision-aided radiative excitation in an Na2-Na system. Through the special excitation processes, constructive quantum interference is realized for a Λ-type quantum-beat configuration with a widely-spaced doublet (about 17 cm-1) in the excited sodium atom driven by one laser. The dependences of quantum interference on the argon buffer gas pressure and sample temperature are also examined.

Abstract:We compute the interaction of a sodium vapor with a static magnetic field ranging from 0 up to 1 Tesla, which allows to obtain the behavior of all Zeeman transitions as a function of the magnetic field for any polarization of incident laser radiation: $\pi, \sigma^\pm$. We use these results combined with a Fabry-Pérot microcavity model to describe the transmitted and reflected signal of a sodium vapor confined in a nanometric-thin cell. This allows us to present for the first time high resolution absorption spectra, and provide a complete description of the Zeeman transitions, along with some important peculiarities such as the appearance of guiding transitions and magnetically-induced circular dichroism. The obtained theoretical results can be used in the upcoming experiments with sodium vapor nanocells.

Abstract:The photodissociation cross section of the NaH molecule from the ground state X1Σ+ to the excited state B1Π is calculated by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation with the consideration of two sets of potential energy curves (PECs). It is found that by using PECs, the maximum photodissociation cross section, the corresponding photon energy, and the effective range of photon energy which can result in the cross section greater than 0.1 Å2 all vary significantly. These differences are ascribed to the variations of the PECs, the vertical excitation energy, the vibrational wavefunction of the X1Σ+ state, and the Franck–Condon factors, etc. These findings provide a deep insight into the spectrum of the NaH molecule and are expected to inspire further relevant investigations in experiment and theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we theoretically demonstrate that the (2+1+1) resonance enhanced multi-photon ionization photoelectron spectroscopy in sodium atom can be effectively controlled by shaping femtosecond laser pulse with a pi phase step modulation in weak laser field, involving its total photoelectron energy, maximal photoelectron intensity, and spectroscopic bandwidth. Our results show that the total photoelectron energy can be suppressed but not enhanced, the maximal photoelectron intensity can be enhanced and also suppressed, and the photoelectron spectroscopy can be tremendously narrowed. These theoretical results can provide a feasible scheme to achieve the high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy and study the excited state structure in atomic and molecular systems.
