Abstract:In this paper, we study the sampling theory for non-decaying signals in mixed Lebesgue spaces . First, we give some Riesz-type bounds, which connect the weighted discrete norms of the samples to the weighted continuous norms of original and interpolated signals. Then, we prove that the sampling and reconstruction through the Riesz-type bounds are stable when the generated kernel is in the appropriate mixed Wiener amalgam spaces.

Abstract:The signal processing on graphs has been widely used in various fields, including machine learning, classification and network signal processing, in which the sampling of bandlimited graph signals plays an important role. In this paper, we discuss the sampling of bandlimited graph signals based on the theory of function spaces, which is consistent with the pattern of the Shannon sampling theorem. First, we derive an interpolation operator by constructing bandlimited space of graph signals, and the corresponding sampling operator is also obtained. Based on the relationship between the interpolation and sampling operators, a sampling theorem for bandlimited graph signals is proposed, and its physical meaning in the graph frequency domain is also given. Furthermore, the implementation of the proposed theorem via matrix calculation is discussed.

Abstract:In the field of signal processing, the sampling theorem plays a fundamental role for signal reconstruction as it bridges the gap between analog and digital signals. Following the celebrated Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem, generalizing the sampling theorem to non-band-limited signals remains a major challenge. In this work, a generalized sampling theorem, which builds upon the Koopman operator, is proposed for signals in a generator-bounded space. It naturally extends the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem in that: 1) for band-limited signals, the lower bounds of the sampling frequency and the reconstruction formulas given by these two theorems are exactly the same; 2) the Koopman operator-based sampling theorem can also provide a finite bound of the sampling frequency and a reconstruction formula for certain types of non-band-limited signals, which cannot be addressed by Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem. These non-band-limited signals include, but are not limited to, the inverse Laplace transform with limit imaginary interval of integration, and linear combinations of complex exponential functions. Furthermore, the Koopman operator-based reconstruction method is supported by theoretical results on its convergence. This method is illustrated numerically through several examples, demonstrating its robustness against low sampling frequencies.

Abstract:By using the theorems of fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) and wavelet subspace decomposition, we study the sampling theorems and the sampling relations for fractional band-limited signals and time-limited signals, and obtain new sampling theorems and sampling relations for fractional band-limited signals and time-limited signals. This sampling method makes the sampling space twice times as usual and the sampling frequency half as usual, which brings convenience for the further application of the FRFT in the fields of signal processing and communication.

Abstract:The fractional Fourier transform (FRFT), a generalization of the Fourier transform, has proven to be a powerful tool in optics and signal processing. Most existing sampling theories of the FRFT consider the class of band-limited signals. However, in the real world, many analog signals encountered in practical engineering applications are non-bandlimited. The purpose of this paper is to propose a sampling theorem for the FRFT, which can provide a suitable and realistic model of sampling and reconstruction for real applications. First, we construct a class of function spaces and derive basic properties of their basis functions. Then, we establish a sampling theorem without band-limiting constraints for the FRFT in the function spaces. The truncation error of sampling is also analyzed. The validity of the theoretical derivations is demonstrated via simulations.

Abstract:Sampling theory is a discipline in communications engineering involved with the exact reconstruction of continuous signals from discrete sets of sample points. From a physics perspective, this is interesting in relation to the question of whether spacetime is continuous or discrete at the Planck scale, since in sampling theory we have functions which can be viewed as equivalently residing on a continuous or discrete space. Further, it is possible to formulate analogues of sampling which yield discreteness without disturbing underlying spacetime symmetries. In particular, there is a proposal for how this can be adapted for Minkowski spacetime. Here we will provide a detailed examination of the extension of sampling theory to this context. We will also discuss generally how spacetime symmetries manifest themselves in sampling theory, which at the surface seems in conflict with the fact that the discreteness of the sampling is not manifestly covariant. Specifically, we will show how the symmetry of a function space with a sampling property is equivalent to the existence of a family of possible sampling lattices related by the symmetry transformations.

Abstract:By analyzing the statement of the sampling theorem, it is pointed out that the aliasing-free-in-frequency-domain sampling and complete-reconstruction-in-time-domain sampling are not identical, and different conditions for fulfilling each sampling are formalated. Therefore this paper gives full answers, i.e. the lowest sampling frequency is the twice of the highest signal frequency. This paper analyzes further the sampling and reconstruction of sinusoidal signal since it is a typical situation where the problem of lowest sampling frequency arises, and reveals how the phase information of sinusoidal signal is lost when the sampling frequency is equal to the twice of the signal frequency. Conclusions are also useful in actual applications when the lowest sampling frequency is considered.

Abstract:In this study, we defined a kind of Fourier expansion of set-valued square-integrable functions. In fact, we have seen that the classical Fourier basis also constitutes a basis for the Hilbert quasilinear space L2(−π,π,Ω(C)) of Ω(C)-valued square-integrable functions, where Ω(C) is the class of all compact subsets of complex numbers. Furthermore, we defined the quasi-Paley–Wiener space, QPW, using the Fourier transform defined for set-valued functions and thus we showed that the sequence sinc.−kk∈Z form also a basis for QPW. We call this result Shannon's sampling theorem for set-valued functions. Finally, we gave an application based on this theorem.

Abstract:With the advent of massive data outputs at a regular rate, admittedly, signal processing technology plays an increasingly key role. Nowadays, signals are not merely restricted to physical sources, they have been extended to digital sources as well. Under the general assumption of discrete statistical signal sources, we propose a practical problem of sampling incomplete noisy signals for which we do not know a priori and the sample size is bounded. We approach this sampling problem by Shannon's channel coding theorem. We use an extremal binary channel with high probability of transmission error, which is rare in communication theory. Our main result demonstrates that it is the large Walsh coefficient(s) that characterize(s) discrete statistical signals, regardless of the signal sources. Note that this is a known fact in specific application domains such as images. By the connection of Shannon's theorem, we establish the necessary and sufficient condition for our generic sampling problem for the first time. Finally, we discuss the cryptographic significance of sparse Walsh transform.

Abstract:As a generalization of the ordinary wavelet transform, the fractional wavelet transform (FRWT) is a very promising tool for signal analysis and processing. Many of its fundamental properties are already known; however, little attention has been paid to its sampling theory. In this paper, we first introduce the concept of multiresolution analysis associated with the FRWT, and then propose a sampling theorem for signals in FRWT-based multiresolution subspaces. The necessary and sufficient condition for the sampling theorem is derived. Moreover, sampling errors due to truncation and aliasing are discussed. The validity of the theoretical derivations is demonstrated via simulations.

Abstract:We propose a new method for analysis of the sampling and reconstruction conditions of signals by use of the multiple-parameter fractional Fourier transform (MPFRFT). It is shown that the MPFRFT may provide a novel understanding of sampling process. The proposed sampling theorem generalizes classical Shannon sampling theorem and Fourier series expansion, and provides a fullreconstruction procedure of certain signals that are not bandlimited in the conventional Fourier transform domain. An orthogonal basis for the class of signals which are bandlimited in the MPFRFT domain is also given. Experimental results are proposed to verify the accuracy and effectiveness of the obtained results.

Abstract:In the first part of the series papers, we set out to answer the following question: given specific restrictions on a set of samplers, what kind of signal can be uniquely represented by the corresponding samples attained, as the foundation of sparse sensing. It is different from compressed sensing, which exploits the sparse representation of a signal to reduce sample complexity (compressed sampling or acquisition). We use sparse sensing to denote a board concept of methods whose main focus is to improve the efficiency and cost of sampling implementation itself. The "sparse" here is referred to sampling at a low temporal or spatial rate (sparsity constrained sampling or acquisition), which in practice models cheaper hardware such as lower power, less memory and throughput. We take frequency and direction of arrival (DoA) estimation as concrete examples and give the necessary and sufficient requirements of the sampling strategy. Interestingly, we prove that these problems can be reduced to some (multiple) remainder model. As a straightforward corollary, we supplement and complete the theory of co-prime sampling, which receives considerable attention over last decade. On the other hand, we advance the understanding of the robust multiple remainder problem, which models the case when sampling with noise. A sharpened tradeoff between the parameter dynamic range and the error bound is derived. We prove that, for N-frequency estimation in either complex or real waveforms, once the least common multiple (lcm) of the sampling rates selected is sufficiently large, one may approach an error tolerance bound independent of N.

Abstract:Sampling theory encompasses all aspects related to the conversion of continuous-time signals to discrete streams of numbers. The famous Shannon-Nyquist theorem has become a landmark in the development of digital signal processing. In modern applications, an increasingly number of functions is being pushed forward to sophisticated software algorithms, leaving only those delicate finely-tuned tasks for the circuit level. In this paper, we review sampling strategies which target reduction of the ADC rate below Nyquist. Our survey covers classic works from the early 50's of the previous century through recent publications from the past several years. The prime focus is bridging theory and practice, that is to pinpoint the potential of sub-Nyquist strategies to emerge from the math to the hardware. In that spirit, we integrate contemporary theoretical viewpoints, which study signal modeling in a union of subspaces, together with a taste of practical aspects, namely how the avant-garde modalities boil down to concrete signal processing systems. Our hope is that this presentation style will attract the interest of both researchers and engineers in the hope of promoting the sub-Nyquist premise into practical applications, and encouraging further research into this exciting new frontier.

Abstract:Sampling theorem of Shannon's type for wavelet subspace on the interval [0, L] is presented. This theorem is obtained by appling the reproducing kernel theory and the duality property of Riesz basis. In addition, for any f(t) ∈ H2 0(I) or H2(I), the Sobolev space, the approximations of f(t), f′ (t) and f″(t) are disscussed by means of the obtained sampling theorem. At last, the corresponding numerical example is also given.

Abstract:Under the assumption that a finite signal with different sampling lengths or different sampling frequencies is considered as equivalent, the signal space is considered as the quotient space of $\mathbb{R}^{\infty}$ over equivalence. The topological structure and the properties of signal space are investigated. Using them some characteristics of semi-tensor product based compressed sensing (STP-CS) are revealed.
