Abstract:The melting transition in anisotropic type-II superconductors has been studied by the Lindemann criterion in the framework of elastic theory. Using two Lindemann numbers for two transverse directions, we find that the single melting transition can be obtained, when the ratio between the two Lindemann numbers reaches special value.

Abstract:The melting transition of vortex lattice in type-II superconductors with magnetic field perpendicular to the anisotropy axis is studied in the framework of the elastic theory. It is found that the thermal fluctuations in the two directions transverse to the magnetic field are approximately proportional to each other with the constant, different from the anisotropy parameter, in a wide portion of phase diagram. One can introduce two Lindemann numbers with the ratio determined by the thermal fluctuations to draw a single melting line. The melting line thus obtained fits the experimental phase boundary quite well.

Abstract:The vortex-lattice melting transitions in two typical iron-based high-T-c superconductors Ba(Fe1-xCox)(2)As-2 (122-type) and Nd(O1-xFx)FeAs (1111-type) for magnetic fields parallel and perpendicular to the anisotropy axis are studied within the elastic theory. Using the parameters from experiments, the vortex-lattice melting lines in the H-T diagram are located systematically by various groups of Lindemann numbers. It is observed that the theoretical results for the vortex melting on both superconductors Ba(Fe1-xCox)(2)As-2 and Nd(O1-xFx) FeAs for parallel fields agree well with the recent experimental data. The future experimental results for the vortex melting can be compared with the present theoretical prediction by tuning reasonable Lindemann numbers.

Abstract:We study here, by the minimization of the total energy of flux line systems, the zero temperature structure of flux Lines of uniaxial anisotropic superconductors in a tilt magnetic field. The anisotropic London model is used and an efficient method is developed to make the total energy calculation manageable. Two degenerate structures are found, one is a deformed triangular structure and the other is a superlattice with three lines per unit cell.

Abstract:In the framework of elastic theory, we study the vortex-lattice melting transitions in magnesium diboride for magnetic fields both parallel and perpendicular to the anisotropy axis. Using the parameters from experiments, the vortex-lattice melting lines in the H–T diagram are located systematically by various groups of Lindemann numbers. It is observed that the theoretical result for the vortex melting with parallel and perpendicular fields agrees well with the experimental data. Therefore, it is suggested that the phenomenological elastic theory is universal to various type-II superconductors, including two- and multi-band superconductors.

Abstract:The authors investigate the energy, elastic modulus and normal modes of oscillation of flux line lattices. To deal with the long range nature of the flux line potential, the Ewald sum technique was used. The dependence of the normal modes as a function of the transverse wavevector in the 2D hexagonal Brillouin zone and the z wavevector kz is discussed in detail. They found two normal modes corresponding to the shear and the compression of the lattice. The frequencies of these two are usually very different from each other. Because of the long range nature of the potential, the compressive mode behaves like a plasma oscillation. At zero momentum the excitations are gapless, because the potentially is exponential in character at large distances. At a finite z wavevector they found that the transverse frequencies drop off rapidly as the transverse wavevector is increased. The elastic moduli are compared with those computed using a continuum approximation by Sudbo and co-workers. Quantitative differences are found in the low field, small k region as well as the high field, large k region.

Vortex lattices and critical fields in anisotropic superconductors

Abstract:A method is developed to compute minimal energy vortex lattices in a general Ginzburg-Landau model of a superconductor subjected to an applied magnetic field. The model may have any number of components and may be spatially anisotropic. Both the period vectors of the vortex lattice, and the orientation of its vortex lines, are determined dynamically; no assumptions are made about them. Methods to compute the first and second critical magnetic fields, $H_{c_1}$ and $H_{c_2}$, in this class of models are also developed. These methods are applied to a simple anisotropic single-component model, and to an anisotropic two-component model of strong current theoretical interest (a so-called $s+id$ model). It is found, in both cases, that at low applied field the vortex lines can tilt very significantly away from the direction of the applied field (by as much as $40^o$ for the single-component and $30^o$ for the $s+id$ model). The optimal lattice in the $s+id$ model is qualitatively very different from the conventional triangular Abrikosov lattice, exhibiting a phase transition from a system of Skyrmion chains when the external field is orthogonal to the basal plane to a deformed Abrikosov lattice when applied in the basal plane.

Abstract:In this Letter, we calculate the magnetostatic modes of a semi-infinite lateral ferromagnetic/ferromagnetic superlattice with the effective-medium theory and present the general features of the modes. The numerical calculations for Co/Ni superlattice show some interesting properties which different from the lateral ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic superlattice. Two branches of the surface modes appear for the superlattice. Comparing with the surface magnetostatic modes of bulk Ni, one branch of the mode is of high frequency; the other branch of mode is of low frequency.

Abstract:The time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations have been solved numerically by a finite element analysis for the mesoscopic superconducting samples with cylindrical shape in a uniform axial magnetic field. We obtain the different vortex patterns as a function of the applied field perpendicular to its surface. We find that multi-vortex states are ground state in three-dimensional mesoscopic cylinders. These results show that our approach is an effective and useful to interpret experimental data on vortex states in the mesoscopic superconductors.

Abstract:The dispersion relations for both bulk and surface magnetostatic waves are obtained in a case where the applied field makes an arbitrary angle with the interfaces of the structure and the static magnetization is tipped out of the interfaces. With the transfer matrix treatment, we find infinite sets of bulk mode bands and infinite branches of surface modes. Both the bulk modes and the surface modes are sensitive to the direction of the static magnetization. Many new properties of the magnetostatic modes are thus presented.

Abstract:Coarse-grained flux density profiles in type-II superconductors with non-parallel vortex configurations are obtained by a proposed phenomenological least action principle. We introduce a functional $C[H(x)]$, which is minimized under a constraint of the kind $J$ belongs to $Delta$ for the current density vector, where $Delta$ is a bounded set. This generalizes the concept of critical current density introduced by C. P. Bean for parallel vortex configurations. In particular, we choose the isotropic case ($Delta$ is a circle), for which the field penetration profiles $H(x,t)$ are derived when a changing external excitation is applied. Faraday's law, and the principle of minimum entropy production rate for stationary thermodynamic processes dictate the evolution of the system. Calculations based on the model can reproduce the physical phenomena of flux transport and consumption, and the striking effect of magnetization collapse in crossed field measurements.

Abstract:We theoretically study the magnetic field orientation dependence of longitudinal and transverse flux line lattice form factors in uniaxial superconductors with anisotropy ratio corresponding to YBa_2_Cu_3_O_{7-delta}. We discuss influences of the anisotropy ratio of coherence length, and differences between the s-wave and the d_{x^2-y^2}-wave pairings. The calculations are performed by two methods, the Eilenberger theory and the London theory comparatively, and we study the cutoff function of the extended London theory, which will be helpful in the analysis of the small angle neutron scattering in the vortex states.

Abstract:2M-WS2 is a newly discovered superconductor with a rather high critical transition temperature (T-c = 8.8 K) and topological surface states. Recently Majorana bound states were observed in magnetic vortices of this material. Thus uncovering the flux dynamics of the magnetic vortices is essential to further promote the physical understanding and its practical application in topological quantum computation. Here we report an in-depth investigation on this issue by the temperature- and field-dependent electric transport measurements. The magnitudes of activation energy under both field orientations are rather low, revealing a weak pinning strength of the flux in the present system. Moreover, clear anisotropic thermally activated flux-flow behaviors are revealed. Under the in-plane field (H parallel to bc), the activation energy U shows a (1 - T/T-c)H-alpha dependence indicating the three-dimensional feature, while under the out-of-plane field (H perpendicular to bc), U is proportional to (1 - T/T-c) ln H, which suggests a two-dimensional liquid state for the vortices.

Abstract:We study the effect of frustration, induced by a magnetic field, on the superconducting diamagnetic properties of two-dimensional quasicrystalline arrays. In particular, we calculate the superconducting-normal phase boundary, ${T}_{c}(H)$, for several geometries with quasicrystalline order. The agreement between our theoretically obtained phase boundaries and the experimentally obtained ones is very good. We also propose a new way of analyzing the overall and the fine structure of ${T}_{c}(H)$ in terms of short- and long-range correlations among tiles.

Abstract:The authors have estimated the energy of a dislocation loop and found that it exhibits a strong temperature dependence and extrapolates to zero slightly above a temperature which they have previously identified as the melting temperature of the pure lattice. The magnitude of this energy and its dependence on the temperature, the magnetic field and the Landau-Ginzburg parameter all agree reasonably well with experimental estimates for the activation energy in thermally assisted flux flow at low currents. Estimates of the prefactor of the resistivity due to hopping of the flux loop also agree with experimental results. The result is the first quantitative estimate of the activation energy.

Abstract:We numerically investigate the phenomenological nonlocal Ginzburg-Landau Hamiltonian for two-dimensional superconductors in a strong magnetic field by Langevin equation. We obtain a regular vortex lattice which is very near to the square lattice. We calculate the structure factor and Abrikosov factor at various temperatures. We also evaluate the specific heat and obtain a cusp which indicates the melting of the vortex lattice.
