Abstract:Griffin and Kuelbs [Ann. Probab., 17 (1989), pp. 1571-1601] proved a self-normalized LIL. We extend this result and obtain a self-normalized Chung-type LIL.

Abstract:Using suitable self-normalization for partial sums of i. i. d. random variables, Griffin and Kuelbs{1} established the law of the iterated logarithm for all distributions in the domain of attraction of a normal law. We obtain the corresponding results for Studentized increments of partial sums under the same condition.

Abstract:Let {X,X-n;n >= 1} be a sequence of i.i.d. random variables which belong to the attraction of the normal law, and X-n((1)),...,Xn((n)) be an arrangement of X-1,..., X-n in decreasing order of magnitude, i.e., |Xn((1))|>=...>=|Xn((n))|. Suppose that {r(n)}| is a sequence of constants satisfying some mild conditions and d'(t(nk)) is an appropriate truncation level, where n(k) = [beta(k)] and beta is any constant larger than one. Then we show that the conditionally trimmed sums obeys the self-normalized law of the iterated logarithm (LIL). Moreover, the self-normalized LIL for conditionally censored sums is also discussed.

Abstract:Recently, Fulman developed some general connections between martingales and character ratios of a random representation of the symmetric group on transitions, and obtained a convergence rate in a central limit theorem. In this work we aim to establish the law of the iterated logarithm for character ratios. The technique is a well-known Skorokhod embedding theorem for martingales and strong approximation argument. Also, bounded martingale difference methods are used to obtain a large deviation for character ratios.

Abstract:The sub-linear expectation or called G-expectation is a non-linear expectation having advantage of modeling non-additive probability problems and the volatility uncertainty in finance. Let $\{X_n;n\ge 1\}$ be a sequence of independent random variables in a sub-linear expectation space $(\Omega , \mathscr {H}, \widehat{\mathbb {E}})$. Denote $S_n=\sum _{k=1}^n X_k$ and $V_n^2=\sum _{k=1}^n X_k^2$. In this paper, a moderate deviation for self-normalized sums, that is, the asymptotic capacity of the event $\{S_n/V_n \ge x_n \}$ for $x_n=o(\sqrt{n})$, is found both for identically distributed random variables and independent but not necessarily identically distributed random variables. As an application, the self-normalized laws of the iterated logarithm are obtained. A Bernstein’s type inequality is also established for proving the law of the iterated logarithm.

Abstract: We establish the Strassen's law of the iterated logarithm for independent and identically distributed random variables with $\hat{\mathbb{E}}[X_1]=\hat{\mathcal{E}}[X_1]=0$ and $C_{\mathbb{V}}[X_1^2]<\infty$ under sub-linear expectation space with a countably sub-additive capacity $\mathbb{V}$.
