Abstract:We study the problem of finding complete conformal metrics determined by some symmetric function of the modified Schouten tensor on compact manifolds with boundary; which reduces to a Dirichlet problem. We prove the existence of the solution under some suitable conditions. In particular, we prove that every smooth compact n-dimensional manifold with boundary, with n >= 3, admits a complete Riemannian metric g whose Ricci curvature Ric(g) and scalar curvature R-g satisfydet(Ric(g) - R(g)g) = const.This result generalizes Aviles and McOwen's in the scalar curvature case.

Abstract:On Hermitian manifolds, the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. By refining the Bochner formulas for any Hermitian complex vector bundle (and Riemannian real vector bundle) with an arbitrary metric connection over a compact Hermitian manifold, we can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and complex vector bundles by the second Ricci curvature tensors. We will also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:We prove several rigidity theorems for elliptic genera associated to Toeplitz operators on odd dimensional spin manifolds. We also prove an equivariant odd index theorem for Dirac operators with involution parity and the Atiyah-Hirzebruch vanishing theorems for odd dimensional spin manifolds.

Abstract:We develop a Lie-theoretic perspective on Hitchin's equations for cyclic $G$-Higgs bundles, which we use to study analytic and geometric properties of harmonic maps. Among other things, we prove Dai-Li's conjecture on the monotonicity of the energy density in the case of Coxeter cyclic $G$-Higgs bundles, for all $G$, and Dai-Li's negative curvature conjecture for Coxeter cyclic $G$-Higgs bundles, for all $G$ except those of type $\mathrm{E}_7$ and $\mathrm{E}_8.$

Abstract:We argue that Hitchin’s equation determines not only the low energy effective theory but also describes the UV theory of four dimensional N = 2 superconformal field theories when we compactify six dimensional A N (0, 2) theory on a punctured Riemann surface. We study singular solutions to Hitchin’s equation and the Highs field of equation has a simple pole at the punctures; We show that the massless theory is associated with Higgs field whose residue is a nilpotent element; We identify the flavor symmetry associated with the puncture by studying the singularity of closure of the moduli space of solutions with the appropriate boundary conditions. For mass-deformed theory the residue of the Higgs field is a semi-simple element, we identify the semi-simple element by arguing that the moduli space of solutions of mass-deformed theory must be a deformation of the closure of the moduli space of massless theory. We also study the Seiberg-Witten curve by identifying it as the spectral curve of the Hitchin’s system. The results are all in agreement with Gaiotto’s results derived from studying the Seiberg-Witten curve of four dimensional quiver gauge theory.

Abstract:We establish the existence and uniqueness results for variational inequality problems on Riemannian manifolds and solve completely the open problem proposed in [S.Z. Németh, Variational inequalities on Hadamard manifolds, Nonlinear Anal. 52 (2003) 1491–1498]. Also the relationships between the constrained optimization problem and the variational inequality problems as well as the projections on Riemannian manifolds are studied.
Moduli Spaces of the Basic Hitchin equations on Sasakian three-folds

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce an equation which we call the Basic Hitchin equation. This is an equation defined on Sasakian three-folds and is a three-dimensional analog of the Hitchin equation which is defined on Riemann Surfaces. We construct the moduli space of the basic Hitchin equation and show such space admits a hyper-Kähler metric. This also shows that the moduli space of flat bundles over Sasakian three-folds admits a hyper-Kähler metric. We also calculate the dimension of the moduli space.

Abstract:We study the geometry of singular $\text{SL}_n$-Hitchin fibres over the elliptic locus. We show that orbifold singularities appear in the $\text{PGL}_n$-moduli space $M^{ell}(\text{PGL}_n)$ exactly when the $\text{SL}_n$ side $M^{ell}(\text{SL}_n)$ has a reducible Hitchin fibre. Our main theorem shows that the Fourier-Mukai transform of a skyscraper sheaf supported at an orbifold singularity in $M^{ell}(\text{PGL}_n)$ satisfies a version of the fractional Hecke eigenproperty, as conjectured by Frenkel and Witten.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we investigate the properties of the real and complex projective structures associated to Hitchin and quasi‐Hitchin representations that were originally constructed using Guichard–Wienhard's theory of domains of discontinuity. We determine the topology of the underlying manifolds and we prove that some of these geometric structures are fibered in a special standard way. In order to prove these results, we give two new ways to construct these geometric structures: we construct them using gauge theory, flat bundles, and Higgs bundles, and we also give a new geometric way to construct them.

Abstract:The Hitchin-Simpson equations are first-order non-linear equations for a pair consisting of a connection and a Higgs field. In this paper, we study the behavior of sequences of solutions to the Hitchin-Simpson equations on closed Kähler manifolds with unbounded $L^2$ norms of the Higgs fields. We prove a compactness result for the connections and renormalized Higgs fields, which generalizes the work of Taubes and Mochizuki. As applications, we prove that every $\mathbb{Z}/2$ harmonic 1-form on a Kähler manifold can be deformed into a sequence of solutions to the Hitchin-Simpson equations. Additionally, we solve the generalized Hitchin's WKB problem on any Kähler manifold.

Higgs bundles in the Hitchin section over non-compact hyperbolic surfaces

Abstract:Let $X$ be an arbitrary non-compact hyperbolic Riemann surface, that is, not $\mathbb C$ or $\mathbb C^*$. Given a tuple of holomorphic differentials $\boldsymbol q=(q_2,\cdots,q_n)$ on $X$, one can define a Higgs bundle $(\mathbb{K}_{X,n},\theta(\boldsymbol q))$ in the Hitchin section. We show there exists a harmonic metric $h$ on $(\mathbb{K}_{X,n},\theta(\boldsymbol q))$ satisfying (i) $h$ weakly dominates $h_X$; (ii) $h$ is compatible with the real structure. Here $h_X$ is the Hermitian metric on $\mathbb{K}_{X,n}$ induced by the conformal complete hyperbolic metric $g_X$ on $X.$ Moreover, when $q_i(i=2,\cdots,n)$ are bounded with respect to $g_X$, we show such a harmonic metric on $(\mathbb{K}_{X,n},\theta(\boldsymbol q))$ satisfying (i)(ii) uniquely exists. With similar techniques, we show the existence of harmonic metrics for $SO(n,n+1)$-Higgs bundles in Collier's component and $Sp(4,\mathbb R)$-Higgs bundles in Gothen's component over $X$, under some mild assumptions.

The Algebraic and Analytic Compactifications of the Hitchin Moduli Space

Abstract:Following the work of Mazzeo-Swoboda-Weiss-Witt and Mochizuki, there is a map $\overline{\Xi}$ between the algebraic compactification of the Dolbeault moduli space of $\mathsf{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ Higgs bundles on a smooth projective curve coming from the $\mathbb{C}^\ast$ action, and the analytic compactification of Hitchin's moduli space of solutions to the $\mathsf{SU}(2)$ self-duality equations on a Riemann surface obtained by adding solutions to the decoupled equations, known as ``limiting configurations''. This map extends the classical Kobayashi-Hitchin correspondence. The main result of this paper is that $\overline{\Xi}$ fails to be continuous at the boundary over a certain subset of the discriminant locus of the Hitchin fibration. This suggests the possibility of a third, refined compactification which dominates both.

Abstract:We investigate the geometry of asymptotically flat manifolds with controlled holonomy. We show that any end of such manifold admits a torus fibration over an ALE end. In addition, we prove a Hitchin-Thorpe inequality for oriented Ricci-flat 4-manifolds with curvature decay and controlled holonomy. As an application, we show that any complete, asymptotically flat, Ricci-flat metric on a 4-manifold which is homeomorphic to R-4 must be isometric to the Euclidean or the Taub-NUT metric, provided that the tangent cone at infinity is not R x R+.
Dualities in Comparison Theorems and Bundle-Valued Generalized Harmonic Forms on Noncompact Manifolds

Abstract:We observe, utilize dualities in differential equations and differential inequalities, dualities between comparison theorems in differential equations, and obtain dualities in "swapping" comparison theorems in differential equations. These dualities generate comparison theorems on differential equations of mixed types I and II and lead to comparison theorems in Riemannian geometry with analytic, geometric, P.D.E.'s and physical applications. In particular, we prove Hessian comparison theorems and Laplacian comparison theorem under varied radial Ricci curvature or radial curvature assumptions, generalizing and extending the work of Han-Li-Ren-Wei, and Wei. We also extend the notion of function or differential form growth to bundle-valued differential form growth of various types and discuss their interrelationship. These provide tools in extending the notion, integrability and decomposition of generalized harmonic forms to those of bundle-valued generalized harmonic forms, introducing Condition W for bundle-valued differential forms, and proving duality theorem and unity theorem, generalizing the work of Andreotti and Vesentini, and Wei. We then apply Hessian and Laplacian comparison theorems to obtain comparison theorems in mean curvature, generalized sharp Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities, embedding theorem for weighted Sobolev spaces, geometric differential-integral inequalities, generalized sharp Hardy type inequalities on Riemannian manifolds, monotonicity formulas and vanishing theorems for differential forms of degree $k$ with values in vector bundles, such as $F$-Yang Mills fields (when $F$ is the identity map, they are Yang-Mills fields), generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld fields on manifolds, Liouville type theorems for $F$-harmonic maps, and Dirichlet problems on starlike domains for vector bundle valued differential $1$-forms and $F$-harminic maps, etc.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to show the existence and give an explicit description of a pseudo-Riemannian metric and a symplectic form on the $\mathrm{S}\mathrm{L}(3,\mathbb{R})$-Hitchin component, both compatible with Labourie and Loftin's complex structure. In particular, they give rise to a mapping class group invariant pseudo-Kähler structure on a neighborhood of the Fuchsian locus, which restricts to a multiple of the Weil-Petersson metric on Teichmüller space. By comparing our symplectic form with Goldman's $\boldsymbol{\omega}_G$, we prove that the pair $(\boldsymbol{\omega}_G, \mathbf{I})$ cannot define a Kähler structure on the Hitchin component.

Abstract:We prove the Strominger--Yau--Zaslow and topological mirror symmetries for parabolic Hitchin systems of types B and C. In contrast to type A, a geometric reinterpretation of Springer duality is necessary. Furthermore, unlike Hitchin's construction in the non-parabolic case, the map between generic fibers in type B and C needs more analysis due to the change of partitions of Springer dual nilpotent orbits, which is the main difficulty in this article. To tackle this challenge, we first construct and study the geometry of the generic Hitchin fibers of moduli spaces of Higgs bundles associated to the nilpotent orbit closures. Then we study their relation with the generic Hitchin fibers of parabolic Hitchin systems. Along this way, we establish intriguing connections between Springer duality, Kazhdan--Lusztig maps, and singularities of spectral curves, and uncover a new geometric interpretation of Lusztig's canonical quotient.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic behavior of Hitchin's hyperkähler metric on the moduli space of rank two irregular Higgs bundles over ℂP^1. Along a generic curve, we prove that the Hitchin metric is asymptotic to the semiflat metric at an arbitrary polynomial order. When there are no weakly parabolic singularities, the rate is exponential. In the case of four-dimensional moduli spaces, we prove that the semiflat metric is asymptotic to an ALG/ALG^∗ model metric.

Abstract:Given a tuple of holomorphic differentials on a Riemann surface, one can define a Higgs bundle in the Hitchin section and a natural symmetric pairing of the Higgs bundle. We study whether a Higgs bundle of rank 3 in the Hitchin section has a compatible harmonic metric when the spectral curve is a 2-sheeted branched covering of the Riemann surface. In particular, we give a condition for Higgs bundles in the Hitchin section on $\mathbb{C}$ or $\mathbb{C}^*$ to have compatible harmonic metrics.
