Abstract:Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were employed to scrutinize the mechanical response and plastic deformation of the B2-NiAl/Fe system subjected to uniaxial tension and shearing at 300, 473, 673, and 873 K. The analysis reveals that the dislocation network on the low-energy interface exhibits relative stability, suggesting a higher thermal stability of these interfaces. Comparative assessment of tension calculations across three different interfaces implies that, owing to the strong adhesion of the interface, fracture initiation at the interface results in increased fracture strength and strain (i.e., heightened ductility). Conversely, fracture initiation within the Fe or B2-NiAl block diminishes ductility. Among the three interfacial relationships, plastic deformation in the B2-NiAl block primarily manifests as dislocation slip and HCP phase transition. The BCC-FCC phase transition predominantly occurs in the Fe block, accompanied by observed stacking faults induced by dislocations. Conversely, the remaining two interfacial Fe blocks are predominantly characterized by dislocation slip. Shear deformation transpires at stress levels lower than those of tensile loading, rendering the interface considerably weaker under shear loading. Plastic deformation primarily unfolds within the B2-NiAl block through dislocation slip and HCP phase transition when the three interfaces are subjected to shear loading, while the Fe block retains robust stability. The impact of temperature on these B2-NiAl/Fe interfaces is comprehensively explored.
