Abstract:We consider the impact of multiple access interference (MAI) on noncoherent code tracking loops (in conventional CDMA matched filter detectors) and a novel interference canceller is proposed in order to eliminate the steady-state tracking error, reduce the RMS tracking jitter and realize fast and reliable synchronization. Abstract:In this paper, we propose an asynchronous multi-channel MAC (AM-MAC) protocol for cooperative network, which keeps nodes aware of all the state information and introduce cooperative transmission into asynchronous multi-channel environment. This Multi-channel MAC design adds a helper-confirm phase in channel negotiation process and also different information tables and learning methods. As we analyzed the properly designed MAC frames and handshake schemes make it perfect in data channel selection and helper confirmation. Simulations have shown that the network throughput of AM-MAC is much higher than none-cooperative multi-channel MAC protocol when causing less dropped packets.

Abstract:In this paper, we study multiuser detection for asynchronous uplink machine-to-machine systems with code division multiple access. We formulate the maximal logarithmic likelihood problem for asynchronous multiuser detection via joint channel gains, time delays and transmission symbols detection. We present the design for pilot sequence and propose an adaptive step-size method with low complexity to estimate time delays based on the estimated time delays of the past times. Numerical results are shown to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:CDMA based third generation mobile communication adopts Rake receiver to get diversity gain for multipath signals. This paper first analyzes why traditional CDMA delay tracker fails when multipaths are closely spaced (1-2 chips apart). Then we propose a novel adaptive coherent CDMA tracking loop. This new structure uses an adaptive delay detector which is able to suppress the disturbance from neighboring multipath components. Experiments show our method can track multipath profiles with 1-2 chips apart. The proposed structure is also low in complexity. It's well suited for the downlink tracking in WCDMA/cdma2000 standard
Simulation and analysis on physical transmission link of TD-SCDMA system

Abstract:Two kinds of receivers' structures and algorithms of time division-synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) system based on joint detection (JD) or RAKE were analyzed. Transmission performance of these two kinds of receivers were compared through simulation considering multi-user under different multi-path fading conditions with various speeds in both uplink and downlink, and the implementation complexity was analyzed. Analysis result shows that because of multi-user signal synchronicity in downlink, RAKE receiver performs well with low complexity, while in uplink the performance of JD receiver, which is about the same as its downlink, is much better than that of RAKE receiver. RAKE receiver is sensitive to slow speed and deep fading condition, and there obviously exists error floor in uplink under multi-user condition.

Abstract:This paper presents the performance analysis of a De-correlated Modified Code Tracking Loop (D-MCTL) for synchronous direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems under multiuser environment. Previous studies have shown that the imbalance of multiple access interference (MAI) in the time lead and time lag portions of the signal causes tracking bias or instability problem in the traditional correlating tracking loop like delay lock loop (DLL) or modified code tracking loop (MCTL). In this paper, we exploit the de-correlating technique to combat the MAI at the on-time code position of the MCTL. Unlike applying the same technique to DLL which requires an extensive search algorithm to compensate the noise imbalance which may introduce small tracking bias under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the proposed D-MCTL has much lower computational complexity and exhibits zero tracking bias for the whole range of SNR, regardless of the number of interfering users. Furthermore, performance analysis and simulations based on Gold codes show that the proposed scheme has better mean square tracking error, mean-time-to-lose-lock and near-far resistance than the other tracking schemes, including traditional DLL (T-DLL), traditional MCTL (T-MCTL) and modified de-correlated DLL (MD-DLL). A Novel Synchronization Scheme for OFDM-based CMMB Receivers

Abstract:A novel synchronization scheme aiming at the special frame structure of China mobile multimedia broadcasting (CMMB) is presented in this paper. Based on the fact that CMMB system is very sensitive to the synchronization error, this scheme gives a solution which integrates high precision symbol timing recovery, carrier frequency recovery and sampling clock frequency recovery. Simulation results show that proposed algorithm can perform robustly at -2 dB SNR and TU6 channel with 300Hz Doppler frequency shift. The root mean square error (RMSE) of sampling clock frequency offset estimation and residual carrier frequency offset estimation is 50% less than that of conventional scheme.

Abstract:Under the time variant and fading HF channel, an improved Multicarrier CDMA System using Frequent Domain Differential Detection (MC-FDDD-CDMA) for low SNR links is proposed. With synchronization errors, including frequent offset and timing offset, we analyze the system BER performance under the fast fading HF channel, where the adjacent subcarriers have different channel responses. The results show that the synchronization errors reduce the desired signal amplitude, and introduce ICI. In addition, a Common Phase Error is generated by differential detection, which causes the rotation of signal constellation and limits the system BER performance. Therefore, we exploit a novel phase estimation method applicable to the MC-FDDD-CDMA system. Finally, computer simulations prove that the improved system can effectively reduce the CPE and considerably promote the BER performance under the low SNR HF channels.

Abstract:An adaptive multi-user detector was developed for direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems corrupted by non-Gaussian channel noise, which can be quite detrimental to the performance of the multi-user detectors based on classical white Gaussian assumption. This receiver simultaneously combats multipleaccess interference (MAI) and non-Gaussian impulsive noise. The channel parameters are estimated and transmitted signals are jointly detected by a simple recursive algorithm derived from the EM/SAGE algorithm. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed technique is robust with wider applicability than conventional multi-user detectors in terms of near-far resistance and bit-error ratio (BER) when either MAI or non-Gaussian impulsive noise is dominant.

Abstract:In the lately released Chinese mobile multimedia broadcasting standard CMMB, cyclic-prefix based OFDM technique has been adopted. Traditional timing synchronization for this system requires a correlator to correlate the last Ng samples of the received OFDM symbol with their copies ahead, and at least N (the length of OFDM symbol) data and Ng correlation results have to be stored for implementation, which results in large consumption of memory. In this paper, a low complexity scheme for the joint synchronization of symbol timing and fractional carrier frequency is proposed. This scheme extremely lowers the hardware cost, especially the memory consumption. Simulation results show that the performance of this algorithm can also meet the need of the system well over both AWGN and typical CMMB multipath channel.

Abstract:DS-CDMA is widely used in 3G communication systems, GPS, WLAN and some other fields that require robust resistance against narrow band interference, multi-path time spread or interception. One most challenging and important problem in DS-CDMA is code synchronization, which includes code acquisition and code track. When SNR of the received signal is low, the synchronization becomes not very reliable, which means the system will miss the correct phase of the received signal at a high probability. And therefore, more synchronization iteration is needed. If the PN code is very long, more iteration will become unaffordable because it elongates the synchronization time. In this paper, a non-coherent addition method is proposed to increase synchronization reliability. Another problem that hasnpsilat been discussed in previous literature is chip doppler. It will make the synchronization lose locked abnormally. In the paper, a PLL aid resample method is also proposed to solve this problem. LabVIEW simulation shows that above two methods are very effective.

Abstract:In this paper, to synchronize Ultra Wideband (UWB) systems in ad-hoc multi-user environments, we propose a new timing acquisition approach for achieving a good performance despite the difficulties to get there. Synchronization constraints are caused by the ultra-short emitted waveforms nature of UWB signals. Used in [1, 2] for single-user environments, our timing acquisition approach is based on two successive stages or floors. Extended for multi-user environments, the used algorithm is a combination between coarse synchronization based on timing with dirty templates (TDT) acquisition scheme and a new fine synchronization scheme developed in [3-6] which conduct to an improved estimate of timing offset. In this work, we develop and test this method in both data-aided (DA) and non-data-aided (NDA) modes. Simulation results and comparisons are also given to confirm performance improvement of our approach (in terms of mean square error and acquisition probability) compared to the original TDT algorithm in multi-user environments, especially in the NDA mode.

Abstract:A constrained minimum mean square error code tracking loop (CMMSE-CTL) is proposed in this paper for synchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems in a multiuser environment. By introducing assistant weighted despreading signals into the local reference signals of the loop, we exploit the resultant extra degrees of freedom to improve the tracking performance under multiuser environment. The derived mean square tracking error is taken as the cost function and minimized with respect to the weight parameters, under the constraints which ensure an odd-symmetric bias-free S-curve with enhanced tracking range. Simulations based on Gold codes compare the S-curve, root-mean-square (rms) tracking error, mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL) performance of CMMSE-CTL and the traditional modified code tracking loop (T-MCTL). It is shown that CMMSE-CTL outperforms T-MCTL greatly in that it provides unbiased stable code tracking with reduced mean square tracking error, an enhanced tracking range, and near–far resistance.

Abstract:Ln this paper, a new multiuser detection scheme for synchronous DS/CDMA system in AWGN channel is presented. Combining the characteristics of the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) blind adaptive multiuser detector and the group partitioned multiuser detector, this new detector can be viewed as a generalized multiuser detector. its relationship with other detectors is also discussed. Good performance has been proven by simulations.This new group partition blind multiuser detector includes two separate parts, a blind adaptive part and a conventional nonadaptive one. All active users are divided into several groups in advance. In the first step, using the modified constrained blind adaptive multiuser interference cancellation strategy, multi-access interference (MAI) contributed by the users who do not belong to the same group is suppressed. MAI from the users of the same group is suppressed in the second stage by a conventional non-adaptive multiuser detector, where nearly ail kinds of previous proposed multiuser detectors can be used. In this way, all multiuser interference is reduced in the two stages. Only the information of the users belonging to the same group is needed for detection. Others users' information such as the signature sequences is not used by the detector, which will increase the convenience of implementation.

Abstract:Based on CML estimation, a novel synchronization algorithm is proposed for IR-UWB system, which includes three improved schemes: Frame-level noise suppression (FNS), noise template cross-correlation estimation (NTCE) and slide correlation search (SCS). FNS and NTCE can largely improve the performance of synchronization in the condition of low SNR, while SCS lowers the error floor in the condition of high SNR. Both mathematical analysis and simulation indicate that each proposed scheme could achieve the expected optimization of performance.

Abstract:The capacity and performance of code division multiple access (CDMA) systems are limited by multiple access interference (MAI) and "near-far" problem. Space-time multiuer detection combined with adaptive wavelet networks over frequency selective fading multipath channels is proposed in this paper. The structure of the multiuser detector is simple and its computational complexity mostly lies on that of wavelets networks. With numerical simulations and performance analysis, it is shown that the proposed detector can converge at the steady state rapidly and offer significant performance improvement over the space-time matched filtering detector, the conventional RAKE receiver and matched filter detector only at the time domain. Therefore, it can suppress the MAI and solve the "near-far" problem effectively.

Abstract:The decorrelating and the MMSE (Minimum mean square error) multiuser detector for asynchronous CDMA (Code devision multiple access) system are ideally anticausal infinite memory-length detectors. As a result, in practice they have to be approximately implemented with finite-memory structure, and the process delay in detection is unavoidable. Based on the analysis of a new signal model for asynchronous system, a novel multiuser detector for asynchronous CDMA system is proposed in this paper, which is termed as DF-IC-MMSE (Decision feedback interference cancellation - MMSE) detector, It's the detection statistics that makes the DF-IC-MMSE detector basically different from other traditional ones. The DF-IC-MMSE detector can be ideally implemented with causal finite memory-length structure, and cause no delay in symbol detection. Simulations show that the performance of DF-IC-MMSE detector is almost identical to that of the ideal MMSE detector.
