Abstract:Relationships among the three symmetries——Noether symmetry,Lie symmetry and M ei symmetry of a relativistic Birkhoff system have been obtained. Some stabilit y criteria are given by using Liapunov method. Finally the conservation quanti ty and the stability of the relativistic Birkhoff system are correlated by the Energy－Casimir functional, and an example is given, to illustrate the applicat ion of the method.

Abstract:The properties of practical stability and exponential estimates of trajectory bounds for retarded systems with uncertain external disturbances are investigated. Our approach is adaptable to general regarded functional differential equations (RFDEs) with bounded disturbances. By applying our results to the LQ regulator problem with uncertain input delay and bounded external disturbances, it can be found that our results provide an effective method for quantitative stability analysis of retarded systems.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of equilibrium index for statically isolated invariant sets of the system $u_t+A u=f_\lambda(u)$ on Banach space $X$ (where $A$ is a sectorial operator with compact resolvent) and present a reduction theorem and an index formula for bifurcating invariant sets near equilibrium points. Then we prove a new global static bifurcation theorem where the crossing number $\mathfrak{m}$ may be even. In particular, in case $\mathfrak{m}=2$, we show that the system undergoes either an attractor/repeller bifurcation, or a global static bifurcation. An illustrating example is also given by considering the bifurcations of the periodic boundary value problem of second-order differential equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the boundary stabilization of a degenerate hybrid system composed of an Euler-Bernoulli beam with a tip mass. It is proved that the system is exponentially stabilizable when the usual velocity feedback controls are applied at the end with the tip mass. We also establish time reversibility and spectral completeness of the closed-loop system.

Abstract:We study equilibrium problem on general Riemannian manifolds, focusing on existence of solutions and the convexity properties of the solution set. Our approach consists in relating the equilibrium problem to a suitable variational inequality problem on Riemannian manifolds, and is completely different from previous ones on this topic in the literature. We apply our results to the mixed variational inequality and the Nash equilibrium problem. Moreover, we formulate and analyze the convergence of the proximal point algorithm for the equilibrium problem. In particular, correct proofs are provided for the results claimed in J. Math. Anal. Appl. 388 (2012) 61–77 (i.e., Theorems 3.5 and 4.9 there) regarding the existence of the mixed variational inequality and the domain of the resolvent for the equilibrium problem on Hadamard manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper we consider an abstract linear system with perturbation of the form (dy/dt) = Ay + εBy on a Hilbert space H, where A is skew-adjoint, B is bounded, and ε is a positive parameter. Motivated by a result of Freitas and Zuazua on the one-dimensional wave equation with indefinite viscous damping [JDE, 1996], we obtain sufficient conditions for the exponential stability for the above system when B is not a dissipative operator. Our result is then applied to many elastic systems with indefinite viscous damping.

Abstract:This paper studies the construction of conservation laws for the Birkhoffian systems with unilateral constraints by using the approach of integrating factors.Firstly,the definition of integrat-ing factors for the differential equations of motion of the systems is presented.Secondly,the neces-sary conditions for the existence of conserved quantities of the systems are studied in detail,and the relation between the conservation laws and the corresponding integrated factors is established,and the generalized Killing equations by which the integrating factors can be determined are pro-vided.Finally,the inverse problem is studied with an example given to illustrate the application of the results.

Abstract:We prove the existence and uniqueness of local in time strong solutions to the full Ericksen-Leslie system in a bounded domain in R 3 , with strong anchoring boundary condition for the director field.The proof consists of three main steps: first, we introduce a new equivalent formulation of the system, which together with the boundary condition ensures the nonlinear constraint that |n| " 1.Second, based on this new formulation, we establish the well-posedness of the linearized system and show that the nonlinear operator induced by the stress tensor terms is locally Lipschitz continuous.These results together with a fixed point argument lead to the existence of a local in time solution of the new system.Third, the hydrodynamic component of the coupled system can be reformulated as a quasi-stationary Stokes-type equation.Subsequently, we can apply the regularity theory of the generalized Stokes system and employ a bootstrap argument to improve the spatial regularity of the local in time solution.

The proof is based on the computation of the corresponding Birkhoff normal forms. The result does not involve small parameters. Applications to the relativistic oscillator are also given.

Abstract:The relative equilibria of a symmetric Hamiltonian dynamical system are the critical points of the so-called augmented Hamiltonian. The underlying geometric structure of the system is used to decompose the critical point equations and construct a collection of implicitly defined functions and reduced equations describing the set of relative equilibria in a neighborhood of a given relative equilibrium. The structure of the reduced equations is studied in a few relevant situations. In particular, a persistence result of Lerman and Singer [LS98] is generalized to the framework of Abelian proper actions. Also, a Hamiltonian version of the Equivariant Branching Lemma and a study of bifurcations with maximal isotropy are presented. An elementary example is presented to illustrate the use of this approach.

Abstract:This note revisits an extended Lorenz system, which was presented in the paper entitled “Hopf bifurcations in an extended Lorenz system” by Zhou et al. [2017]. On the one hand, one points out and corrects some wrong results in that paper on the Hopf bifurcation at the symmetric equilibria [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. On the other hand, combining Lyapunov function and the concepts of [Formula: see text]- and [Formula: see text]-limit sets, it is rigorously proved that there exists two and only two heteroclinic trajectories but no homoclinic trajectories under some certain conditions of its parameters and initial values. In addition, numerical simulations illustrate the consistence with the theoretical conclusions. The results together not only improve and complement the known ones, but also provide support in some future applications.

Abstract:In this paper a mechanical system is studied in which a rotor rotates around a fixed axis with a string suspended symmetric rigid body. All relative equilibrium states and their stability are discussed. Considering the spinning angular velocity ω around the fixed vertical axis as a parameter, algebraic equations with this parameter are obtained. Every solution of the equations is relevant to a relative equilibrium state of the system. The existence of two important relative equilibrium states is discussed by numerical method developed in bifurcation theory in this paper. In addition, The Lagrange's Theorem is used to determine the stability of the relative equilibrium state relevant to the solution of the algebraic equations.

Abstract:In this paper we analyze asymptotic stability, instability and stabilization for the relative equilibria, i.e. equilibria modulo a group action, of natural mechanical systems. The practical applications of these results are to rotating mechanical systems where the group is the rotation group. We use a modification of the Energy-Casimir and Energy-Momentum methods for Hamiltonian systems to analyze systems with dissipation. Our work couples the modern theory of block diagonalization to the classical work of Chetaev.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate multi-agent systems with heterogeneous constraints, which can represent the heuristic beliefs of the agents towards an issue or the physical constraints of the agents. One typical example is a group of interacting unmanned aerial vehicles in a complex environment with multiple physical constraints. As a result of the heterogeneity of the constraints, an equilibrium point may not exist and is presumably to be a dissensus point when it exists. We investigate the existence of equilibrium points from the perspective of Kakutani's fixed point theory for a set-valued map. We also prove the local/global stability of certain equilibrium points. Then, a special case that the constraints are homogeneous is taken into account. The constrains are assumed to take interval forms with nonempty intersection. It is proved that consensus can be achieved globally and asymptotically for this case. Numerical examples are designed to illustrate our theoretical findings.

Abstract:This paper presents bilateral control laws for one-dimensional(1-D) linear 2x2 hyperbolic first-order systems (with spatially varying coefficients). Bilateral control means there are two actuators at each end of the domain. This situation becomes more complex as the transport velocities are no longer constant, and this extension is nontrivial. By selecting the appropriate backstepping transformation and target system, the infinite-dimensional backstepping method is extended and a full-state feedback control law is given that ensures the closed-loop system converges to its zero equilibrium in finite time. The design of bilateral controllers enables a potential for fault-tolerant designs.
