Abstract:Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) is a technique that performs asymmetric high-speed data transmission on two-wire twisted metallic cable pairs. Because it can provide a standard, economical, and convenient broadband access, ADSL is widely applied in the future. ADSL transceiver consists of two parts: ATU-C (ADSL terminal unit-center office) and ATU-R (ADSL terminal unit-remote). There are two types of ATU-R which are the extended one and the internal one. ITU Recommendation G. Dmt and G. Lite describe the characters of ADSL transceiver, in which DMT (discrete multitone) modulation is adopted. This paper, firstly describes the principle of DMT modulation in brief, then constructs a platform of external ADSL terminal unit-remote (ATU-R)for G. Dmt, using the method for embedded system design. Finally the hardware and the software architectures are presented in detail. Experimental results show that the ATU-R can successfully implement some broadband services.

Abstract:Each wireless technology now used is optimized just for some particular applications and environments. However, the next generation wireless networks coexisting with fiber-optic based broadband communication networks will be required to operate over a wide range of cell size (from picocell to massive satellite cell) and offer multimedia services where each service may have a unique rate. A new architecture of wireless network, wireless ATM, is proposed in this paper, which consolidates various radio environments and applications under a single protocol. The wireless ATM architecture embedded into B-ISDN protocol stack can adapt a wide range of physical channels. In the last section, flow control, the key technique of multiplex and multiple access in wireless ATM, is described

Abstract:ATM based passive optical networks can provide broadband services as defined by the international telecommunication union. The medium access control protocol is of great importance to the access scheme as it controls the flow of traffic in the access network. This paper presents a novel MAC protocol with the ability of traffic profile distortions control for APON system at low cost of bandwidth consumption. We evaluate the protocol performance in the term of cell transfer delay and cell delay variation at different traffic load by computer simulations, which approve the validity of the protocol and the bandwidth allocation algorithm.

Abstract:The wireless ATM (WATM) has been studied intensely. While different WATM demonstration networks are carried out all over the world, the commercial IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) is competing for more consumers with the wired LAN. If some modifications and extra protocols are applied to the WLAN, the quality of service (QoS) of different services is guaranteed. This is a practical way to achieve wireless access to ATM. The essence and model of the media access control (MAC) protocol are given. The authors present the detailed process to improve the WLAN for the access to ATM network

Abstract:Real-time multimedia communication in heterogeneous computing environments and high perfor mance broad band multimedia applications which exploit the QoS features of ATM networks are two important issues in the field of distributed multimedia. This pa per discusses the design and implementation of a Native-ATM based real-time mu lt imedia communication systems in heterogeneous computing environments. In this sy stem, a socket style Native-ATM API is implemented in SUN workstations. PCs and the SUN workstations transfer real-time video and audio streams based on the AT M AAL5 protocol. The experience provides a good foundation for research work on broad band distributed multimedia applications in heterogeneous computing environ ments.

Abstract:The interconnection of LAN/MANs to ATM networks is important for supporting connectionless (CL) applications geographically. Given that conventional flow control mechanisms have been eliminated to improve switching speeds, admission control will be crucial for an ATM network to protect itself from congestion. Since ATM networks are connection-oriented (CO) by nature, current admission control schemes ape typically connection-based and support only CO applications. Currently proposed approaches to ATM connectionless support are either inefficient in the use of bandwidth or unable to prevent CL traffic from blocking CO traffic. This paper proposes a novel admission control scheme for CL traffic support in ATM networks. The basis of this scheme is a bandwidth computation technique that establishes a direct association between the number of users of a CL application and the minimum, amount of bandwidth required under the constraint of congestion control. The scheme provides desirable performance bounds for all supported CL applications, and at the same time, allows a higher bandwidth utilization and prevents CL traffic from blocking CO traffic

Abstract:In this article we focus on the transport and switching part of third-generation mobile access networks and outline some important aspects of applying ATM in these networks. In particular, we argue that in order for the mobile access network to support low-bit-rate delay-sensitive traffic consisting of short packets, the standardization of a new ATM adaptation layer, AAL2, and associated signaling protocol has been necessary. The AAL2 protocol has been designed to support low-bit-rate delay-sensitive services (typically compressed voice) where other adaptation layers fail to deliver the required QoS and maintain efficient resource utilization at the same time. Furthermore, in order to provide mobility and soft handover support in W-CDMA-based mobile networks such as UMTS or IMT-2000, there is also a strong demand for fast connection establishment and release. Therefore, when designing ATM-based cellular access networks some specific architectural and traffic management issues need to be addressed.

Abstract:This paper proposes an efficient adaptive bandwidth allocation scheme of virtual paths. The bandwidth of a virtual path is dynamically adjusted according to the link residual capacity. The scheme can remarkably reduce the load on node processing and simplify the network architecture, while keeping higher transmission efficiency. The excellent performance is proved by detailed theoretical analyses.

Abstract:Describes networking management architecture of ATM based on SNMP,presents a model of management information,transfers the protocol used by SNMP and presents an analysis of the topology of ATM network. SNMP can manage effectively ATM network,the core of B-ISDN, and was easier to implement than other management protocol. On the basis of ATM Forum and RFC,model of management information was made,Manager and Agent was described in detail especially in ILMI interface. This model can be applied to ATM switch and is simpler and more efficient and lower in cost than CORBA or TMN (Q3).

Abstract:This paper describes the ATM up-link module for the THMAS-1, a high-performance ISDN/ATM multimedia integrated access system based on our patented single board large capacity (32K/spl times/32K) ISDN switch network. The module implements an ATM 155M SDH UNI interface and employs CBR AAL1 SDT to adapt n/spl times/64 kbps user data. The system's signaling interworking function is considered in particular. The paper presents the architecture and implementation scheme of the up-link module. It is important to note that this up-link module can be referred to as a general N-ISDN to B-ISDN interworking function (IWF) in ITU-T terminology.

Abstract:In this paper, a new integrated scheme for scheduling real time traffic and cell loss control based on the queue length threshold is proposed and modeled using stochastic Petri nets. The connection oriented nature of ATM networks can be kept and no resequencing device is needed in this new scheme. This large model of the scheme is decomposed into near independent submodels to evaluate the model performance.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel idea to implement realtime telecommunication in the real-time distributed control system for large-scale power systems. To satisfy the requirement of real-time performance, the scale of the distributed control system will be limited and fat-client/server paradigm must be adopted. After carefully estimating the reliability and the delay of communication, it is pointed out that ATM networks based on SONET will be able to undertake the task of real-time telecommunication. Then, a solution using the technology of VPN is proposed as a practicable method to build up the real-time communication network.

Abstract:This paper presents a mixed access system for ATM networks carrying voice and data traffic. The system uses digital speech interpolation (DSI) and adaptive bandwidth allocation technique to provide delay and cell loss ratio guarantees for voice traffic. And it can efficiently transmit voice and data traffic on the same link while guaranteeing the QoS requirements of the different traffic.

Abstract:The Broadband Integrated Service Digital Network is very suitable for implementing multiple service network.However,the ATM Technology which is used in the common B-ISDN is not quite suitble for some special B-ISDNs.This paper introduces a sort of ATM signaling technology and its dispatch routing method which was based on the deep-first flooding algorithm.Through the simulation on the OPNET simulation tool,the feasibility of the special ATM signaling was apporved by the results.
