Abstract:The authors describe a client-server mode software architecture of supporting platform for distributed multimedia application intended to cooperative work. According to the layered architecture described herein, a multimedia desktop conferencing system is designed using connected PC and MS-Windows. With a unique network for transporting all forms of information, the system consists of shared whiteboard, cooperative document editor, real-time audio annotation, shared living video and multimedia electronic mail as well as the platform. It provides geographically separative group members, seated at their desks, with an environment for holding conferences and working together at the same time or at different time by means of sharing information in such multimedia forms as video, audio, image, graphics and text.
