Abstract:In this Letter, we discuss discrete-time analogue of a continuous-time cellular neural network. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of a unique almost periodic sequence solution which is globally attractive. Our results demonstrate dynamics of the formulated discrete-time analogue as mathematical models for the continuous-time cellular neural network in almost periodic case. Finally, a computer simulation illustrates the suitability of our discrete-time analogue as numerical algorithms in simulating the continuous-time cellular neural network conveniently.

Abstract:In this paper, several criteria are obtained for the existence and exponential attractivity of a unique κ-almost periodic sequence solution of discrete-time bidirectional neural networks (BNNs). Our results generalize the corresponding results about almost periodic sequence solution in common sense. Finally, computer simulations illustrate the dynamic behavior of discrete-time bidirectional neural networks. It is shown that discretization step κ affects dynamical characteristics of bidirectional neural networks and our results on κ-almost periodic sequence solution lead to effective estimates of continuous-time neural networks during real-time computations.

Abstract:In this paper, the dynamics of elementary cellular automata rule 42 is investigated in the bi-infinite symbolic sequence space. Rule 42, a member of Wolfram's class II which was said to be simply as periodic before, actually defines a chaotic global attractor; that is, rule 42 is topologically mixing on its global attractor and possesses the positive topological entropy. Therefore, rule 42 is chaotic in the sense of both Li-Yorke and Devaney. Meanwhile, the characteristic function and the basin tree diagram of rule 42 are explored for some finite length of binary strings, which reveal its Bernoulli characteristics. The method presented in this work is also applicable to studying the dynamics of other rules, especially the 112 Bernoulli-shift rules of the elementary cellular automata.

Abstract:Attractor dynamics is a crucial problem for attractor neural networks, as it is the underling computational mechanism for memory storage and retrieval in neural systems. This brief studies a class of attractor network consisting of linearized threshold neurons, and analyzes global attractors based on a parameterized 2-D model. On the basis of previous results on nondegenerate and degenerate equilibria in mathematics, we further elucidate all possible nontrivial global attractors. Our theoretical result provides precise descriptions on how the changes of network parameters affect the attractors' distribution and landscape, and it may give a feasible solution towards specifying attractors by specifying weights. Simulations are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the nonlinear dynamical behavior of a single neuron model with adapting feedback synapse, and show that chaotic behaviors exist in this model. In some parameter domain, we observe two coexisting chaotic attractors, switching from the coexisting chaotic attractors to a connected chaotic attractor, and then switching back to the two coexisting chaotic attractors. We confirm the chaoticity by simulations with phase plots, waveform plots, and power spectra.

Abstract:This paper introduces a novel class of chaotic attractors by lever- aging different activation functions within neurons possessing multiple dendrites. We propose a comprehensive framework where the activation functions in neurons are varied, allowing for diverse behaviors such as amplification, fluctuation, and folding of scrolls within the resulting chaotic attractors. By employing wavelet functions and other model-specific activation functions, we demonstrate the capability to modify scroll characteristics, including size and direction. Furthermore, a model featuring neurons with varied activation functions is elaborated upon, showcasing the versatility of this approach. Through numerical simulations, we validate the efficacy of our proposed theoretical frame-work, offering new insights into the behavior of chaotic attractors. The results highlight the potential for generating higher-dimensional hyperchaotic attractors with enhanced complexity and applicability in various domains. Numerical simulations are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results using C + + .

Abstract:To explore the characteristic of an unstable nonlinear Hopfield neural network (HNN) with asymmetric connection weights, a nonlinear HNN system is constructed based on activation functions and synaptic weight connections between neurons in neural network. Phase diagram, 01 test, complexity, bifurcation chart, and Lyapunov index spectrum are used to explore the characteristics of the HNN system. The results of a number of simulation experiments show that the new system has excellent dynamical characteristics, and finds phenomenon of attractor coexistence. Finally, the circuit experiments of the new HNN system are implemented on the DSP platform and the multisim platform respectively.

Abstract:This paper presents a new three-dimensional chaotic system with a nonlinear term. More interesting is that the system can produce different types of coexisting attractors under one sets of fixed model parameters, which include point attractor, bursting orbit, three kinds of period orbits, and two kinds of chaotic orbits. At the same time, the coexisting attractors have nested structure. In addition, riddled basins are observed on local attraction basins, which indicate that the dynamical behaviors of proposed system are extremely sensitive to the initial conditions. Finally, by setting different initial condition, the circuit can generate multitudinous coexisting attractors. The circuit implementation in Pspice supports furtherly numerical analyses and validates the mathematical model.

Abstract:By transforming the past states of a variable to another variable, and returning the evolvement along with various functions of self-feedback, a unique gallery of chaotic maps with coexisting hollow attractors is proposed. Strikingly, these peculiar attractors stand on steep parameter intervals, some of which could only happen when the parameter accurately approaches the integer 1 instead of 1. Some maps also have direct amplitude controllers, which regulate the dynamics together with the initial condition leaving unpredicted complexity. The nested hollow attractors are arranged in phase space with great distribution diversity in the form of homogeneous and heterogeneous multistability. CH32-based digital circuit experiments show agreement with numerical simulation and theoretical prediction. Furthermore, the application in secure optical communication is explored accordingly proving higher performance in the steep parameter interval.

Abstract:In this paper we present a new simple controller for a chaotic system, that is, the Newton–Leipnik equation with two strange attractors: the upper attractor (UA) and the lower attractor (LA). The controller design is based on the passive technique. The final structure of this controller for original stabilization has a simple nonlinear feedback form. Using a passive method, we prove the stability of a closed-loop system. Based on the controller derived from the passive principle, we investigate three different kinds of chaotic control of the system, separately: the original control forcing the chaotic motion to settle down to the origin from an arbitrary position of the phase space; the chaotic intra-attractor control for stabilizing the equilibrium points only belonging to the upper chaotic attractor or the lower chaotic one, and the inter-attractor control for compelling the chaotic oscillation from one basin to another one. Both theoretical analysis and simulation results verify the validity of the suggested method.

Abstract:The chaotic neural network constructed with chaotic neurons exhibits very rich dynamic behaviors and has a nonperiodic associative memory. In the chaotic neural network, however, it is difficult to distinguish the stored patters from others, because the states of output of the network are in chaos. In order to apply the nonperiodic associative memory into information search and pattern identification, etc, it is necessary to control chaos in this chaotic neural network. In this paper, the phase space constraint method focused on the chaotic neural network is proposed. By analyzing the orbital of the network in phase space, we chose a part of states to be disturbed. In this way, the evolutional spaces of the strange attractors are constrained. The computer simulation proves that the chaos in the chaotic neural network can be controlled with above method and the network can converge in one of its stored patterns or their reverses which has the smallest Hamming distance with the initial state of the network. The work clarifies the application prospect of the associative dynamics of the chaotic neural network.
The Synchronization Control Of Cellular Neural Network With Nonlinear Observer

Abstract:With the circuit model of cellular neural network, the dynamic characteristics and synchronization control of a hyperchaotic cellular neural network are discussed in this paper. Through choosing proper system parameters, the hyperchaotic attractor of the 5th-order cellular neural network is presented. A new design method of nonlinear observer is proposed with the Lyapunov theory. With the help of the nonlinear observer, the cellular neural network can be synchronized with different initial conditions in secure communication system. The simulation results show the validity of the conclusion and effectiveness of the algorithm.

Abstract:In a neuron model with adaptive feedback synapse, with the change of parameters, the existence of two coexisting chaotic attractors, switching from the coexisting chaotic attractors to a connected chaotic attractor, and then switching back to the two coexisting chaotic attractors in this model were recently reported. An electronic circuit design for this model is described in detail in this paper. The circuit design of the non-monotonous activation function unit is also considered in detail. The designed circuits are simulated using the Electronic Workbench (EWB) software. Simulation results demonstrate that the dynamical behaviors of the designed circuit are closely similar to those in numerical simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct an inertial two-neuron system with a non-monotonic activation function. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation are employed to illustrate the complex dynamics. It is found that the neural system exhibits the mixed coexistence with periodic orbits and chaotic attractors. To this end, the equilibria and their stability are analyzed. The system parameters are divided into some regions with the different number of equilibria by the static bifurcation curve. Then, employing some numerical simulations, including the phase portraits, Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation diagrams, and the sensitive dependence to initial values, we find that the system generates two coexisting single-scroll chaotic attractors via the period-doubling bifurcation. Further, the single-scroll chaos will evolve into the double-scroll chaotic attractor. Finally, to view the global evolutions of dynamical behavior, we employ the combined bifurcation diagrams including equilibrium points and periodic orbits. Many types of multistability are presented, such as the bistable periodic orbits, multistable periodic orbits, and multistable chaotic attractors with multiperiodic orbits. The phase portraits and attractor basins are shown to verify the coexisting attractors. Additionally, transient chaos in neural system is observed by phase portraits and time histories.

Abstract:The analysis of chaotic attractor generation is given, and the generation of novel chaotic attractor is introduced in this paper. The underlying mechanism involves two simple linear systems with one-dimensional, two-dimensional, or three-dimensional space functions. Moreover, it is demonstrated by simulation that various attractor patterns are generated conveniently by adjusting suitable space functions' parameters and the statistic behavior is also discussed.

Abstract:SUMMARY A chaotic neural network consisting of chaotic neurons exhibits such rich dynamical behaviors as nonperiodic associative memory. But it is difficult to distinguish the stored patterns from others, since the chaotic neural network shows chaotic wandering around the stored patterns. In order to apply the nonperiodic associative memory to information search or pattern identification, it is necessary to control chaotic dynamics. In this paper, we propose a delay feedback control method for the chaotic neural network. Computer simulation shows that, by means of the control method, the chaotic dynamics in the chaotic neural network are changed. The output sequence of the controlled network wanders around one stored pattern and its reverse pattern.

Abstract:In this Letter, a new kind of chaotic system is introduced by combining a three-dimensional linear system with attraction/repulsion functions developed in the context of swarm aggregations. Rich chaotic oscillating phenomena appear in this new system. Some simple extension to multi-input and multi-output systems is also given. The frequency-domain condition for the property of dichotomy is presented for a more general system. Based on the frequency-domain condition given here, some parameter domains can be determined for the nonexistence of chaotic attractors or limit cycles in the system given in this Letter.

Abstract:Based on the circuit model of cellular neural network, the dynamic characteristics of a 5th-order cellular neural network are discussed in this paper. Through choosing proper system parameters, we present the hyperchaotic attractor of the 5th-order cellular neural network. A new design method of nonlinear observer is proposed with the Lyapunov theory since the nonlinear function stem satisfies the Lipschitz function. With the help of the nonlinear observer, the cellular neural network will be used to synchronize control in secure communication system, or to process image information. Simulation results show the effect of this method.

Abstract:It is well known that complex dynamic behaviors exist in time-delayed neural networks. Infinite positive Lyapunov exponents can be found in time-delayed chaotic systems since the dimension of such systems is infinite. This paper Presents an infinite-dimension hyperchaotic time-delayed neuron system with sinusoidal activation function. The hyperchaotic neuron system is studied by Lyapunov exponent, phase diagram, Poincare section and power spectrum. Numerical simulations show that the new system's behavior can be convergent, periodic, chaotic and hyperchaotic when the time-delay parameter varies.

Abstract:Biological nervous system is very sensitive to external disturbances, and appropriate stimulus is beneficial for improving neural function in the neural system. In this paper, the effect of different external stimuli on chaotic dynamics in a Hopfield neural network with three neurons is explored. Mathematical model of the neural network is respectively established under three different cases, namely without external stimulus, with only electromagnetic radiation stimulus, and with both electromagnetic radiation stimulus and multi-level-logic pulse stimulus. Under the three cases, equilibrium points, stabilities, and attractors of the neural network are investigated carefully. The research results demonstrate that the neural network with periodic attractors can induce abundant chaotic attractors by imposing electromagnetic radiation on its one neuron. And when this neuron is simultaneously stimulated via electromagnetic radiation and multi-level-logic pulse, the neural network can produce complex multi-scroll attractors previously unobserved in Hopfield-type neural networks. Numerical results are verified by hardware experiments, effectively. Furthermore, based on the Helmholtzâs theorem, the Hamilton energy of the neural network is calculated and analyzed. It is found that lower average Hamilton energy can be detected in the neural network when complexity of external stimuli is enhanced. These new findings could offer a new insight into the occurrence mechanism of some neurological diseases.
