Abstract:A new RLS lattice filter, which is based on the normalized sliding window covariance (NSWC) algorithm, is presented. And with the help of the filter, a novel fault detector is constructed. First of all, signal vector and signal matrix of Hilbert space are defined, and the normalized residual vecrtors and partial correlation coefficient are described. Then, the equations of the filter algorithm are derived by use of the orthogonal projection approach in vector space. By testing whiteness of the forward or backward prediction error, the real time fault detection is carried out. Finally, simulation example is given to justify the effectiveness of this fault detection methodology. Simulation results show that the fault detector has many advantages such as the mathmatical model needless of the monitored system, less computation and lower probability of wrongly alarming.

Abstract:The existence of impulsive noise with alpha-stable distributions has been addressed in many applications. Some adaptive lattice algorithms that factional lower order moments of residual errors are used to updated the filter coefficients are presented. In this paper, a new recursive adaptive lattice algorithm is proposed for adaptive filtering of alpha-stable AR processes. The performance of this algorithm is compared to that of those stochastic gradient-based algorithms. It is shown that the proposed algorithm achieves a superior convergence speed with respect to the other algorithms. © 2005 IEEE.

Abstract:Since data stream anomaly detection algorithms based on sliding windows are sensitive to the abnormal deviation of individual interference data, this paper presents a sliding nest window chart anomaly detection based on the data stream (SNWCAD-DS) by employing the concept of the sliding window and control chart. By nesting a small sliding window in a large sliding window and analyzing the deviation distance between the small window and the large sliding window, the algorithm increases the out-of-bounds detection ratio and classifies the conceptual drift data stream online. The designed algorithm is simulated on the industrial data stream of drilling engineering. The proposed algorithm SNWCAD is compared with Automatic Outlier Detection for Data Streams (A-ODDS) and Distance-Based Outline Detection for Data Stream (DBOD-DS). The experimental results show that the new algorithm can obtain higher detection accuracy than the compared algorithms. Furthermore, it can shield the influence of individual interference data and satisfy actual engineering needs.

Abstract:Based on the difference in local feature of fault signal,the concept of slip information entropy sequence was put forward and combined with the phase space reconstruction and information entropy theory to detect the local impulse feature informations.The minimum entropy deconvolution,optimal filter construction theory were applied to improve the ability of weak fault diagnosis.The proposed method has been successfully applied in the fault feature extraction of rolling bearings.The experimental data analysis results show that the proposed method has a good ability of weak shoclk fault feature extraction.The work has important implications in fault intelligent diagnosis of rolling bearings under strong noise background.

Abstract:The KLD coefficient and the normalized KLD coefficient are proposed to characterize the correlation of multivariable series in order to overcome the intrinsic limitations of the KLD dimension density. Using the uncorrelated or perfectly correlated multivariable series, the upper and the lower bound functions of the KLD dimension density, and furthermore the upper and the lower bounds of the KLD coefficient are analytically deduced. Then, the normalized KLD coefficient is proposed in the paper. The analyses and numerical simulations prove that the changes of correlation of multivariable series can lead to linear variation of the normalized KLD coefficient. The simulations also prove that the normalized KLD coefficient can detect the changes of correlation sensitively, even if these are induced by only two channels of multivariable series. Furthermore, the normalized KLD coefficient can be used to analyze the nonstationary time series. The simulation results of coupled map lattice prove that the normalized KLD coefficient can also be used for the nonlinear system analysis.

Abstract:In this paper we examine the two-dimensional extensions of some popular adaptive lattice filters. Adaptation is based on either the normalized least mean squares "NLMS" or the fast recursive least squares "FRLS" algorithms. These algorithms can update the filter coefficients in growing-order form with a moderate computational complexity. Derivation of the 2-D adaptive lattice "TDAL-NLMS" algorithm is straightforward, ones the 2-D lattice structure has been appropriately defined. The causality is first specified by associating the past 2-D data with the region of support. Then by appropriately defining the partial order of 2-D data, order recursion relations are obtained. In case of the FRLS algorithm we also make use of the 1-D multichannel analogy to derive the order recursion relations and the shift invariance property. The corresponding 2-D prediction problem is solved using the geometrical approaches of the vector space and the orthogonal projection. To compare the performances of these algorithms we consider first an adaptive estimation problem, then the implementation of the 2-D joint process lattice "TDJPL" filters for adaptive restoration of noisy images. Performance evaluation of LMS and FRLS based noise cancelling filters was done using artificially degraded image data at different signal to noise "SNR" ratio. The results show that higher improvement with the FRLS lattice filters can be expected .

Abstract:Blind deconvolution has gained increasing attention due to its advantage in the extraction of weak fault features. Sparsity is an important topic in machine learning and signal processing. In the existing methods of introducing the idea of blind deconvolution into sparse filtering, there are two main forms. The generalized $l_{p}/l_{q}$ norm sparse filtering method has been only applied to 1-D blind deconvolution limiting the expression of fault information. The multidimensional blind deconvolution method only uses the standard $l_{1}/l_{2}$ norm sparse filtering, which is difficult in weak feature extraction. To improve performance, a multidimensional blind deconvolution method based on nonlinear generalized normalized sparse filtering is proposed to extract early fault features. First, the mathematical model of the improved general normalized sparse filtering for multidimension blind deconvolution is proposed with a discussion on the effect of different $l_{p}/l_{q}$ norms. Second, a nonlinear activation is introduced to the general normalized sparse filtering. Third, after getting the optimal weight matrix, the frequency kurtosis factor (FKF) is applied to choose the best filter according to the convolution theorem and the distribution of the weight matrix. The simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in early fault detection and robustness to the strong background noise. The comparison results with the existing methods demonstrate its superiority and potential in practical applications.

Abstract:This paper investigates the problem of fault detection for a class of uncertain discrete-time piecewise affine systems. The objective is to design an admissible fault detection filter guaranteeing the asymptotic stability of the resulting residual system with prescribed performances. It is assumed that the piecewise affine systems are partitioned based on the state space instead of the measurable output space so that the filter implementations may not be synchronized with the plant state trajectory transitions. Based on a piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function combined with S-procedure and some matrix inequality convexifying techniques, the results are formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Structural Health Monitoring, Ahead of Print. The fast nonlinear convolutional sparse filtering (FNCSF), which detects fault features 42 h earlier than traditional methods in the intelligent maintenance system dataset and takes only 0.12 s, is widely considered a powerful tool for early fault diagnosis. However, random shocks caused by the structure or external interference pose challenges to the extraction accuracy of FNCSF. In addition, the extraction reliability of FNCSF is affected by computational instability and complex parameter settings. To address the above defects, resilient fast convolutional sparse filtering (RFCSF) is proposed in this study. First, the collected vibration signal is normalized by Z-score to eliminate the scale variability of the nonlinear transformation. Then, the frequency components of the signal are evenly divided by the initialized filters to indicate the convergence direction of fault and improve random shock resistance and extraction stability. Next, the nonlinear [math] norm, which can effectively distinguish fault features from irrelevant disturbances, is regarded as the target of blind deconvolution. In the process of deconvolution, the filter converging to random shocks and noise is adaptively eliminated to improve the extraction efficiency and intelligence. Finally, the filtered signal is envelope demodulated to obtain fault information. In the simulation analysis, features under noise with −16 dB and random shocks with 50 m/s2 are accurately extracted by RFCSF with parameters robustness. Several experimental cases demonstrate that RFCSF with these advantages is a promising feature extraction tool.

Abstract:In view of the frequent failures occurring in rolling bearings, the strong background noise present in signals, weak features, and difficulties associated with extracting fault characteristics, a method of enhancing and diagnosing rolling bearing faults based on coarse-grained lattice features (CGLFs) is proposed. First, the vibrational signals of bearings are subjected to adaptive filtering to eliminate background noise. Second, frequency-domain transformation is performed, and a coarse-grained approach is used to continuously segment the spectrum. Within each segment, amplitude-enhancement operations are executed, transforming the data into a CGLF graph that enhances fault characteristics. This graph is then fed into a Swin Transformer-based pattern-recognition network. Third and finally, a high-precision fault diagnosis model is constructed using fully connected layers and Softmax, enabling the diagnosis of bearing faults. The fault recognition accuracy reaches 98.30% and 98.50% with public datasets and laboratory data, respectively, thereby validating the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. This research offers an efficient and feasible fault diagnosis approach for rolling bearings.

Abstract:This study is concerned with the generalised ℋ 2 fault detection problem for a class of discrete-time switched systems with repeated scalar non-linearities. To reduce the overdesign of the quadratic framework, this study proposes a switching-sequence-dependent Lyapunov function approach to the fault detection filter design procedure. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of admissible generalised ℋ 2 fault detection filter. Since these conditions involve matrix equalities, the cone complementarity linearisation procedure is employed to cast the non-convex feasibility problem into a sequential minimisation problem subject to linear matrix inequalities, which can be readily solved by using the standard numerical software. If these conditions are feasible, a desired fault detection filter can be easily constructed. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed theory.

Abstract:A novel non-linear adaptive fault detection filter (NAFDF) is proposed. It can be used to detect on-line and isolate the faults of a class of non-linear systems arising from accidental jumps of the process parameters. The extended Kalman filter and weighted sum-squared residual method are first combined to detect the faults rapidly. A non-linear filter is then proposed and used for joint state and parameter estimation of the system, resulting in a series of parameters. Based on them, Bayes' decision algorithm is modified and used to isolate and classify the faults. An alternate initialization method is also presented, which makes it possible to detect and isolate the faults repeatedly. Finally, the effectiveness of the NAFDF is demonstrated by a simulation study.
Sequential Graphical Lasso for Fault Detection and Isolation

Abstract:This article proposes a sequential graphical Lasso based approach for monitoring of complex industrial systems. The graphical Lasso is a widely used algorithm to estimate the precision matrix (inverse covariance matrix), which encodes the conditional relationship between pairs of variables given other entities. Based on the estimated precision matrix, a graphical model can be constructed to represent the structured correlation information between process variables. The proposed approach utilizes the graphical model to localize anomalous variables. Different from the conventional graphical Lasso approach, the proposed method considers an additional fusseed lasso term and a similarity term in the objective function and the optimization problem can be solved by the alternative direction method of multiplier (ADMM). Using a moving window approach, the proposed method generates a sequence of sparse Gaussian graphs and a new monitoring statistic based on penalized likelihood ratio and matrix norm is constructed. Once a fault is detected, the problem of fault isolation becomes a graph matching problem and a fault score index is calculated for each variable. The validity of proposed method in fault detection and isolation is illustrated by a typical fault observed in the Tennessee Eastman (TE) process.

Abstract:Fault detection of networked control systems (NCSs) with random and unknown network-induced delay that might be larger than one sampling period is studied in this paper. First, influence caused by network-induced delay is transformed into structured modeling error, then an existent continuous time domain robust fault detection method based on reference model is extended to discrete time domain and applied to fault detection of networked control systems. The proposed method can be easily implemented by Matlab LMI toolbox, and its performance is finally evaluated by a simulation example.

Abstract:The weak incipient fault feature information of mechanical equipment is often submerged in strong background noise, which increases the difficulty of feature extraction. Herein, a novel method called the translation-invariant higher-density wavelet packet sliding window block thresholding is proposed. A higher-density wavelet transform processes one scale function and two wavelet functions, which has an advantage over single wavelet transform in matching various signal feature information. The translation-invariant higher-density wavelet packet transform effectively eliminates the Gibbs phenomenon, and the fine division of frequency bands breaks through the limitations of the higher-density wavelet transform to obtain more comprehensive feature information. At the same time, to accommodate the periodicity of the impact feature signal and the correlation between the decomposition coefficients, a sliding window block thresholding method is proposed. The sliding window is set to independently retain the weak fault features and block thresholding is applied to select the optimal block length and threshold by minimizing the Stein unbiased risk estimator. The results of the simulation and experiment indicate that the proposed method can more effectively reduce the interference of background noise and impurity frequencies, and successfully extract the characteristic frequencies of incipient fault diagnosis.

Abstract:Repetitive transients are a key symptom for the occurrence of incipient fault of rolling element bearings. Therefore, an optimal wavelet filtering method is developed by maximizing the L-kurtosis through the genetic algorithm to extract the weak repetitive transients buried in the heavy noise and disturbed by the outliers. First, the capability of L-kurtosis for characterizing the impulsiveness and cyclostationary of repetitive transients is numerically studied at different degrees of noise. Then, the center frequency and band width of morlet wave filter are adaptively determined by the genetic algorithm and the maximization of L-kurtosis. Finally, both simulation and experiments are performed to validate the efficacy of the proposed method. Results show that the proposed method is more powerful and reliable than the other commonly used indexes-based optimal wavelet filtering methods.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of fault detection for networked control systems (NCS), which based on delta operator. By using delta operator, a new model is proposed, then, based on the traditional shift operator described observer-based fault detection filter design, gives the delta operator model on NCS. The problem with uncertain delay and norm bounded unknown input affect NCS robust fault detection filter design problem boils down to the H <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">∞</sub> filter design. By using the linear matrix inequality (LMI), solve the H <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">∞</sub> filter optimal solution, which can ensure that the unknown input delay and uncertainty robustness, but also to maximize the sensitivity of the residual signal for fault. Finally, a numerical example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

Abstract:Global navigation satellite system technology has been widely used for high-precision, real-time monitoring of landslides. To improve forecasts and early warnings, the true deformation features must be extracted from the global navigation satellite system monitoring series. However, as the deformation rate changes at different creep stages, the relationship between noise and true deformation may also change, making it difficult to accurately describe the deformation. In this study, an adaptive sliding window algorithm is proposed to account for this relationship change. First, the window was defined with an equal window width and step length, which improved the efficiency of feature extraction. Second, the median and normalized interquartile ranges were used to estimate the window samples and obtain a continuous and reliable series. Finally, the window sample breakdown point was defined to adjust the window parameter. These steps were repeated for the adjusted window to achieve adaptive processing of the monitoring series. The results based on both simulated and real landslide monitoring series demonstrated that the proposed method can provide adaptive, robust, and reliable deformation information for landslide warnings. The adaptive sliding window method also successfully assisted in the early warning of a loess landslide in Heifangtai, Gansu province, northwest of the Chinese Loess Plateau, indicating its practical application potential.
