Abstract:A drive circuit suitable for power MOSFET is proposed.It has the advantages of simple structure,high operation frequency,short delay time and strong anti-jamming ability.Thus it is especially applicable for high-frequency induction heating,and it could be applied to both voltage-fed inverters and current-fed inverters just by some simple modification according to the duality property of the two basic topologies.The experimental waveform sampled from a 200kHz/50kW current-fed induction heating power supply is given to verify the availability of the proposed drive circuit.

Abstract:A pr-actical and simple approach of achieving a high pulse repetition frequency fiber-coupled laserdiode device is demonstrated both by experiment and TRACEPRO software simulation, which is obtained by beam collimating, spatial beam combining, and polarization beam combining based on multiple cycle-emitting pulsed laser-diode emitters. Using this method, fiber-coupled laser-diode module output pulse repetition frequency from the multimode fiber with 200-mu m core diameter and 0.22 numerical aperture can reach 300 kHz, and the coupling efficiency is beyond 72%. This technique has superiors of great flexibility, low cost, and high reliability for wide applications. (C) 2016 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE)

Abstract:CO2 laser-driven electron acceleration in low-density plasma is demonstrated using particle-in-cell simulation. An intense CO2 laser pulse of long wavelength excites a wake bubble that has a large elongated volume for accelerating a large number of electrons before reaching the charge saturation limit. A transversely injected laser pulse is used to induce and control the electron injection. It is found that an electron bunch with total charge up to 10 nC and absolute energy spread less than 16 MeV can be obtained. As a result, the charge per energy interval of the bunch reaches up to 0.6 nC/MeV. Intense CO2-laser based electron acceleration can provide a new direction for generating highly charged electron bunches with low energy spread, which is of much current interest, especially for table-top X-ray generation.

Abstract:With the wide use of laser in industry, agriculture, medical, and military, the requirement of its preceding excitation power supply is also getting higher and higher. In this paper, a high-voltage repetition-frequency charging power supply used for pulsed laser is described, which uses the principle of series resonant and power electronic conversion. A high-frequency high-voltage transformer and a high-voltage silicon rectifier are also used to obtain a dc voltage, whose output power can reach up to 20 kW. The control system of the power supply is based on the digital signal processor, so that the output voltage can be regulated between 0 and 30 kV, and the repetition frequency can be regulated between 1 and 100 Hz. Some other functions have been designed, such as the two control modes of remote control by PC and local control by keyboard. To extend the application of this power supply, an external trigger control interface is also provided for the synchronization control of the power supply and other equipment of the pulsed laser system. In the experiment, the power supply that described in this paper was used as the preceding excitation power supply of the pulsed laser. The results of the experiment show that the power supply can work effectively.

Abstract:High-power, single-frequency lasers are important in the applications of coherent optical communication, Doppler wind lidar, and remote sensing. Here, a 10-kHz, 353-μJ, single-frequency, 574-ns, 1548-nm fiber laser system was demonstrated based on the optical pulse modulation. The 1548-nm, single-frequency seed laser with the linewidth of 1.25 kHz was modulated by two acousto-optic modulators (AOMs) into a 10-kHz pulsed laser. Two cascaded fiber amplifiers were spliced after the AOMs to scale up the pulse energy. The amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) was inhibited by the multistage amplification construction and the optical bandpass filters. A customized pulse profile was proposed to pre-compensate the temporal modulation and inhibit the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect. The pulse duration of the amplified single-frequency pulse was 574 ns, with the peak power of 753 W. A numerical model was also built for investigating the dynamic of the interaction process inside the power amplifier. The simulated results indicate the maximum output power of the 10-kHz, customized single-frequency laser can be 3.984 W with a pulse duration of 381 ns.

Abstract:According to the requirement of the high pulsed peak power of the laser diode(LD) in the long distance laser fuze, we developed a technique that adjustable high voltage drives LD to emit high-power modulated pulses, and the pulsed power modulated (PPM) laser power supply is designed so that the fuze can work in various detective occasions. Based on the working principles of DC-DC boost converter as well as the transformable frequency and duty cycle output from the multivibrator, the PPM driver circuit which transforms the low input voltage to an adjustable DC high voltage is designed, simulated and tested. The experiment results indicate that the design can significantly increase the pulsed peak power of the LD. For the laser fuzes of various detection ranges, the PPM laser power supply has great value in practical applications.

Abstract:In this article, a high frequency modulation system of semiconductor laser is introduced, which is composed of a signal magnifying circuit,a current modulation circuit,an over current protection circuit and a DC bias circuit with slow start function. The high frequency modulation system of semiconductor laser uses a simple structure of the direct modulation,the modulation method is used to modulate laser intensity of semiconductor laser by using a modulated sig-nal with adjustable frequency,we can achieve the high frequency modulation of semiconductor laser. Design of the sim-ulation achive a result. The output current of semiconductor laser driver is 9.1A, the frequency of output current is 100MHz. The bias current can be continuously regulated within 1A. Two cases of uniform pulse width and non-uni-form pulse width are realized. In uniform cases,the duty ratio of the pulse current is 50%.

Abstract:Nanosecond pulse discharge plasma has many prospects in industrial applications, and high-voltage repetitive nanosecond pulse generators with compact design and light weight have become one of the key issues limiting its development in some applications. This paper presents a high voltage series-connected silicon carbide (SiC) metal-oxide -semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFETs) module which can be served as the main switch in a repetitive high-voltage nanosecond pulse generator. This kind of series-connected MOSFETs module with only single external gate driver requiring very few components is very suitable for compact assembly. By analyzing the working principle, three topologies of series-connected MOSFETs module are proposed. The switching behaviors of the three different topologies with four SiC MOSFETs series-connected are compared experimentally. The variation of switching characteristics of series-connection SiC MOSFETs module with different numbers of devices are investigated. The layout is also optimized to shorten pulse front time and improve output pulse quality. Furthermore, a 10 kV SiC MOSFETs module with a turn-on transition time ∼10 ns is developed. The double pulse test result demonstrates excellent switching performances. Finally, a compact and high-voltage pulse generator composed of three 10 kV SiC MOSFETs module is tailored, with a typical rise time ∼40 ns and peak voltage of ∼30 kV.

Abstract:In this paper, a mechanical Q-switching is used in radio frequency (RF) excited waveguide CO2 laser to obtain high pulse repetition frequency (PRF) laser. The Q-switching system includes two confocal ZnSe lenses and a high speed mechanical chopper, which is inserted into the cavity. The peak power is up to 730 W and the pulse width 200 ns at the highest PRF 20 kHz. The laser also has the advantages of compact, small-volume, and low-cost. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A compact-structure frequency-modulation Q-switched single-frequency fiber laser has been demonstrated at 1.0 μm. A piezoelectric transducer which is clamped to the fiber Bragg grating is utilized to achieve the Q-switching and frequency excursion. The range of the modulation frequency of the output pulse varies from tens to hundreds of kilohertz. Hundreds-of-megahertz frequency-tuning range is achieved and the highest peak power of the output pulse reaches almost 7.0 W.

Abstract:High power semiconductor laser is a kind of photoelectric device with high efficiency and high stability, the performance of its drive system directly affects its output characteristics and service life. In order to solve the problems of stability and robustness of the output power of the semiconductor laser, a semiconductor laser driving power supply with high efficiency, low ripple and strong anti-interference ability was developed. In this paper, the topology of the LCC resonant converter is adopted (LCC refers to the type of resonant converter, because its resonator is composed of an inductor L and two capacitors C, it is called LCC resonant converter). The power supply adopts full-bridge LCC resonant power topology. Firstly, a mathematical model is established to analyze the relationship between LCC resonator parameters and output current gain. Secondly, an LCC resonator parameter design method is proposed to reduce the current stress of components, and the variable frequency phase shift (PFM-PWM) composite control strategy and linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC) algorithm are proposed, which not only ensures the zero voltage (ZVS) conduction of MOS (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) tube, but also reduces the on-off loss of MOS tube. The PFM-PWM composite control strategy and LADRC algorithm not only improve the power efficiency of the drive power supply, suppress the output current ripple, but also ensure that the output current of the drive power supply is stable when the input voltage, load and parasitic parameters of the circuit change. Finally, the simulation and experimental results show that the power supply can be continuously adjustable in the output current range of 0–40 A, the current ripple is less than 0.8%, and the working efficiency is up to 92%. It has the characteristics of high stability, small ripple, high efficiency, low cost and good robustness.

Abstract:A fiber laser injection system used as a seeder for a high-power laser facility of inertial confinement fusion was designed to meet stringent requirements. Herein, we demonstrate the fiber laser injection system, whose output single-pulse energy reaches the millijoule class. With two-stage amplitude modulators, the system produces a pulse with a higher pulse shaping capability. In addition, amplifying the pulse with large-mode-area fiber and single polarization, large-mode-area photonic crystal fiber (PCF) ensures a good beam quality output. In this proof-of-principle experiment, the long-term stability of FM-to-AM modulation and pulse energy is demonstrated. The successful demonstration of this laser injection system holds great significance for future high-power laser drivers.

Abstract:High voltage power pulses with adjustable fall time and pulsewidth are of great significance, especially in Q-switched laser applications. In this paper, a high-speed high-voltage pulse generator based on programable multi narrow pulses drive method for series MOSFETs is proposed to realize smooth and controllable falling slopes output. The designed system integrates a microcontroller (MCU), a programmable delay line array, multi narrow drive pulses, and an isolated gate drive circuit, which collectively facilitate both logic control and robust driving capabilities. The operation principles of the isolated gate drive circuit and the strategies for adjusting fall times are analyzed in detail. In experiments, adjustable fall times in the range of 40220ns, 30-260ns, and 35-220ns were achieved across a 30pF capacitor, 10kΩ resistor, and 3.3μH inductor, respectively. Furthermore, a wide adjustable pulsewidth range of 150ns-400ms at the maximum amplitude of ±3kV was obtained. These results prove that this multi narrow pulses drive method is feasible and effective for programmable control of the falling slopes, and can be further applied in obtaining adjustable rising edges. As well as that, this generator is suitable for high-speed high-voltage pulse applications, especially where there are special requirements for pulsewidth and falling slopes

Abstract:This paper presents the design and construction of a current pulse power supply used for Micro-arc Oxidation (MAO), which is a novel technology capable of depositing ceramic coatings on the surface of valve metal and their alloys. The load of MAO changes acutely during oxidation process and the load transfers from capacitive characteristic to resistant characteristic. So the current pulse power supply is more suitable for MAO than the voltage pulse power supply, which is commercially available. A double switch flyback converter is incorporated into the current pulse power supply because it is capable of outputting the current pulse with a steep front edge by using the coupling inductance and energy can flow back to the power system through energy feedback channel. The control system of the current pulse power supply uses peak current control to regulate pulse energy and ensure that the energy of each pulse is uniform even though input voltage fluctuates. Frequency auto-adjustment control is used to maintain the power supply works in Critical-DCM or DCM mode to satisfy the load demand. A prototype with a peak electrical power up to 2MW, which is made up of ten units, has been constructed and tested. The pulses have a repetition rate up to 4kHz. The experimental results show that the current pulse power supply improves efficiency of energy.

Abstract:A high-pulse-energy, sub-nanosecond master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) laser system at 1.06 mu m was demonstrated. The thermal effect in laser diode-side-pumped module was studied numerically and experimentally. The master oscillator was an electro-optically Q-switched laser with a pulse width of similar to 730 ps. Using an end-pumped preamplifier and two-stage side-pumped amplifiers, laser pulses with a pulse energy of 47.1 mJ were obtained at a repetition rate of 500 Hz, corresponding to a peak power of similar to 64.5 MW. The coefficient of variation of the pulse train was similar to 4.9%.

Abstract:A high pulse energy laser diode-pumped Nd:YAG master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) laser is demonstrated. The maximum energy of 68 mJ, 9.6 ns, 1064 nm laser at a pulse repetition frequency of 500 Hz is achieved by utilizing the amplifier composed of three LD side-pumped Nd:YAG modules. Moreover, the maximum laser energy of 35.6 mJ is obtained at 532 nm by employing a KTP crystal as a frequency doubler. When ambient temperature ranges from 5 C to 45 C, the master oscillator has a pulse energy jitter of < 5%. During the shake-environment test, the maximum-pulse-energy jitter of the MOPA laser is less than 2%. The developed MOPA laser has been used in a laser-induced fluorescence system and the variation of the flow field is obtained at a repetition rate of 500 Hz.

Abstract:The principle and experiment of an impedance matching network between the RF source and the laser head, which is necessary for RF discharge, are described. According to the parameters of a developed 1 kW RF exciting axial flow CO2 laser, the calculation of gas discharge impedance and dynamic impedance matching and modulation of RF-excited CO2 laser are demonstrated.

Abstract:The light pulse interval adjustment at Hefei Light Source (HLS) can be realized by using pulsed orbit bump technique, which requires for high-frequency repetitive, high magnetic flux density, short pulse kicker magnet system of which the power supply modulator should be specially designed. The technique of solid state modulator based on MOSFET is being developed in National synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL). In this paper, the design of a prototype of solid-state modulator with 20 MOSFETs in parallel is introduced, including triggering system, drive circuit, transformer configuration. The oscillation induced by parasitic capacitance and inductance is discussed. This prototype with four stage adder can achieve 100ns width power pulse output with 112A, 2.4 kV to the kicker.

Abstract:Pulsed power technology has traditionally served in the field of defense technology and is generally operated in a single operation. With the increasing demand in the military and high-energy physics fields, especially in the fields of medicine [1], industry, environmental protection and electromagnetic interference, the demand for high average power is becoming more and more urgent, requiring the pulse source to be in a high repetition frequency operating state. The high-repetition-frequency high-voltage pulse source is a pulse power system that can operate at high repetition frequencies and generate high voltage pulses. Ultra-wideband electrical pulse sources with small size and all solid-state structures are easier to integrate into the system and compatible with other devices. This paper introduces the design and implementation of a high-repetition-frequency high-voltage pulse generating device. The device is mainly composed of a pulse signal source module, a power amplification module and a pulse compression module. The article describes in detail about the pulse signal generation module based on MCU (micro-controller unit) and FPGA (field programmable gatearray) with adjustable frequency adjustable pulse width at the source level, the pulse signal power amplification module based on DSRD (drift step recovery diode) [2] switch, the pulse compression module based on the principle of diode reverse recovery. The final test results show that the device can work at 1MHz repeat frequency, the output pulse peak voltage can be up to 1700V on 50 Omega load, the output pulse rising edge is less than 1 ns, and the half pulse width is up to 1.9 ns. If the pulse compression module is connected, the half pulse width can reach 1.56 ns and the compression ratio can reach 87%.
