Abstract:This paper formulates the problem of optimal disturbance rejection in SISO discrete-time systems where the disturbance is difference bounded. For controlled plants including or not including (1-z)-1, the solution of this problem is discussed respectively. It is proved that this problem is equivalent to general l1 optimal problem in these cases.

Abstract:Studies the optimal guaranteed control problem for a class of linear uncertain time-delay systems. The systems under consideration are described by state differential equations with time-varying unknown but norm-bounded uncertain parameters and time-varying unknown but bounded delay in states. An upper bound of the performance measured by standard quadratic function is constructed and based on the delay-dependent stabilizing approach, a method of designing a state feedback robust quadratic stabilizing control law guaranteeing this quadratic performance index be less than the constructed upper bound is derived. A procedure is given to select an optimal state feedback controller in the sense of minimizing this upper bound of the quadratic performance index. The results depend on the size of delay and are given in terms of several linear matrix inequalities

The system under consideration contains convex polyhedral uncertain parameters. An upper bound of performance measured by standard quadratic function is constructed and a method of designing state feedback robust stabilizing control law guaranteeing this quadratic performance index of system be less than this upper bound is derived. It is proved that whether such a control law exists is equivalent to the feasibility of a group of linear matrix inequality Also, a procedure is given to select an optimal state feedback controller in the sense of minimizing the upper bound of quadratic performance index.

Abstract:For discrete-time multi-agent systems with random switching nonlinear linking and exogenous disturbances, the disturbance rejection problem is studied and a sufficient condition is presented using the Lyapunov function. In an example of five agents with pinning control, the condition is adopted to optimize disturbance rejection. A numerical simulation shows that the optimization is effective.

Abstract:In this study, a linear model predictive control (MPC) approach with optimal filters is proposed for handling unmeasured disturbances with arbitrary statistics. Two types of optimal filters are introduced into the framework of MPC to relax the assumption of integrated white noise model in existing approaches. The introduced filters are globally optimal for linear systems with unmeasured disturbances that have unknown statistics. This enables the proposed MPC to better handle disturbances without access to disturbance statistics. As a result, the effort required for disturbance modeling can be alleviated. The proposed MPC can achieve offset-free control in the presence of asymptotically constant unmeasured disturbances. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can provide an improved disturbance õrejection performance over conventional approaches when applied to the control of systems with unmeasured disturbances that have arbitrary statistics.

Abstract:The design problem of optimal (or perfect) model matching control system with minimal weighted sensitivity to disturbance is considered in this paper. A system is said to achieve optimal (or perfect) model matching control if the system is internally stable and the H/sub /spl infin//-norm of the difference between its closed-loop transfer function and that of the reference plant is minimized (or zero). So, the design of an optimal model matching control system leads to an H/sub /spl infin//-optimization problem. A controller achieving optimal model matching control still has free design parameters, which can be utilized to reduce the effect of external disturbances. The disturbance rejection problem is transferred into another weighted optimization problem with constraints which come from the optimal model matching design. A new method is proposed to solve the resulting two coupled H/sub /spl infin//-optimization problems by interpolation method.

Abstract:This study focuses on the problem of optimal mismatched disturbance rejection control for uncontrollable linear discrete-time systems. In contrast to previous studies, by introducing a quadratic performance index such that the regulated state can track a reference trajectory and minimize the effects of disturbances, mismatched disturbance rejection control is transformed into a linear quadratic tracking problem. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of this problem over a finite horizon and a disturbance rejection controller are derived by solving a forward–backward difference equation. In the case of an infinite horizon, a sufficient condition for the stabilization of the system is obtained under the detectable condition. Additionally, in combination with the generalized extended state observer, a controller design method is proposed, and the stability analysis of the system under this controller is presented. This paper details our novel approach to disturbance rejection. Finally, four examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of stability analysis and disturbance rejection for uncertain discrete-time systems in the presence of actuator saturation and exogenous disturbance. A newly defined saturation-dependent Lyapunov function is used to estimate the domain of attraction, and a constrained LMI optimization problem is formulated. Algorithms are developed to estimate the maximal norm of the exogenous disturbance that can be tolerated by systems. Abstract:In this article, the compositedisturbance rejection control approach is established for discrete-time Markovian jump systems with unknown external disturbance. With the transformed system in the regular form, a new mode-dependent disturbance observer is proposed to estimate the unknown disturbance in the absence of the exosystem of the disturbance. Then, the chattering-free controller is designed in the backstepping framework, and the disturbance estimate is incorporated to achieve active disturbance rejection. It can be seen that with the proposed control approach, both the states of the disturbance estimation error systems and the closed-loop systems are finite-time bounded in mean square. Finally, two numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed control approaches.

Abstract:An approach to design optimal auto-disturbance-rejection controller was presented for a class of observable high-order nonlinear plant. The controller parameters were optimized under the universal frame of genetic algorithms, and the desired dynamical equations were obtained according to the specified performance indices at the same time. A high-order plant was simulated using the method. Results were compared with the PID and exact feedback linearization control system. The results demonstrate that the method performs powerful functions for improving the dynamic characteristics. Simulation results also show that the method has good robustness against disturbances, noises and modeling uncertainties

Abstract:This paper focuses on optimal mismatched disturbance rejection control for linear continuoustime uncontrollable systems. Different from previous studies, by introducing a new quadratic performance index to transform the mismatched disturbance rejection control into a linear quadratic tracking problem, the regulated state can track a reference trajectory and minimize the influence of disturbance. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability and the disturbance rejection controller are obtained by solving a forward-backward differential equation over a finite horizon. A sufficient condition for system stability is obtained over an infinite horizon under detectable condition. This paper details our novel approach for transforming disturbance rejection into a linear quadratic tracking problem. The effectiveness of the proposed method is provided with two examples to demonstrate.

Abstract:This paper presents a new method to the invariant approximations and disturbance attenuation for constrained Linear Discrete-Time Systems. A novel condition in the form of LMIs is derived to guarantee the asymptotically stable of the system, based on which an optimization problem is constructed to compute the approximation of an invariant set contained in the domain of attraction. This new method contains more free parameters, which allow more freedom when we search the optimal solution and thus reduce the conservatism. Furthermore, a local 2 L gain, which can be used to measure the disturbance attenuation ability, is also computed. Finally numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:A minimax optimal control strategy for uncertain quasi-integrable Hamiltonian systems with time-delayed bounded feedback control is proposed. First, a quasi-integrable Hamiltonian system with time-delayed bounded control forces and uncertain excitation and system parameters is converted into a set of Itô stochastic differential equations without time delay. Then, the partially averaged Itô stochastic differential equations for the energy processes are derived by using the stochastic averaging method for quasi-integrable Hamiltonian systems. For these equations together with an appropriate performance index, a worst-case optimal control strategy is derived via solving a stochastic differential game problem. The worst-case disturbances and the optimal bounded controls are obtained by solving a Hamilton–Jacobi–Isaacs (HJI) equation. Finally, two examples are worked out in detail to illustrate the application and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of optimal robust stabilization of a discrete‐time minimum‐phase plant in the framework of robust control theory in the l1 setup and under poor a priori information. Coefficients of the transfer function of the plant nominal model with stable zeros are unknown and belong to a known bounded polyhedron in the space of coefficients. The gains of coprime factor perturbations of the plant and the upper bound of external disturbance are also unknown. The problem under consideration is to design adaptive controller that minimizes, with the prescribed accuracy, the worst‐case asymptotic upper bound of the output. Solution of the problem is based on set‐membership estimation of unknown parameters and treating the control criterion as the identification criterion. A hard nonconvex problem of on‐line computation of optimal estimates is reduced, under additional nonrestrictive assumption, to a linear‐fractional programming via a nonlinear transformation of estimated parameters. Despite the non‐identifiability of the unknown parameters, the proposed adaptive controller guarantees, with the prescribed accuracy, the same optimal asymptotic upper bound of the output of adaptive system as the optimal controller for the plant with known parameters. In addition to the optimality of adaptive control, the proposed solution provides on‐line verification/validation of current estimates and a priori assumptions.

Abstract:By investigating the transmission of uncertainty and information in linear time invariant multivariable control systems disturbed by stationary stochastic processes,performance limits of disturbance rejection were studied within the framework of information theory.Two measures of information and uncertainty,entropy rate and mutual information rate,were employed as performance functions of linear regulation system and linear tracking system,respectively.For linear regulation problem,the entropy rate of system output was computed by using Bode integral formula,then the performance limit of disturbance rejection was formulated in terms of unstable poles of open-loop transfer function,and the'conservation law of variety' was revised.For linear tracking problem,a relation between H∞ entropy of system closed-loop transfer function and mutual information rate of the pair of disturbance and output was deduced by using frequency calculation method of mutual information rate,and an upper bound of disturbance rejection performance in Gaussian systems was derived based on this relation.

Abstract:A minimax stochastic optimal control strategy for bounded-uncertain stochastic systems is proposed. The minimax dynamical programming equation for an uncertain stochastic control system is firstly derived based on the optimality principle and Itô differential rule. A new type of bang-bang constraint on the bounded uncertain disturbance is proposed to form a class of minimax stochastic optimal control problems. Then the worst disturbance and minimax optimal control are obtained for the bang-bang-type uncertain system under stochastic excitations. According to this method, the quasi linear control law is obtained for linear stochastic systems with bounded uncertainty and the state-dependent quasi Riccati equation is derived from the minimax dynamical programming equation. Furthermore, a minimax stochastic optimal control strategy for uncertain stochastic quasi Hamiltonian systems is developed based on the stochastic averaging method and minimax dynamical programming equation. The worst disturbance and minimax optimal control for the stochastically averaged system are obtained by the similar procedure. The proposed and developed minimax stochastic optimal control strategies are illustrated with an example of a single-degree-of-freedom uncertain stochastic control system.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with mismatched disturbance rejection control for the second-order discrete-time systems.Different from previous work, the controllability of the system is applied to design the disturbance compensation gain, which does not require any coordinate transformations. Via this new idea, it is shown that disturbance in the regulated output is immediately and directly compensated in the case that the disturbance is known. When the disturbance is unknown, an extra generalized extended state observer is applied to design the controller. Two examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods. Numerical simulation shows that the designed controller has excellent disturbance rejection effect when the disturbance is known. The example with respect to the permanent-magnet direct current motor illustrates that the proposed control method for unknown disturbance rejection is effective.

Abstract:This paper addresses a problem of optimal error quantification in the framework of robust control theory in the l1 setup. The upper bounds of biased external disturbance and the gains of coprime factor perturbations in a discrete-time linear time invariant SISO plant are assumed to be unknown. The computation of optimal data-consistent upper bounds under a known bias of external disturbance has been simplified to linear programming. This allows for the computation of optimal estimates in real-time and their application to achieve optimal robust steady-state tracking even when facing an unknown bias in the external disturbance. The presented results have been illustrated through computer simulations.

Abstract:In this study, an equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) method with a dynamic state observer and a state decomposition technique (SDT) are used to explore the disturbance rejection of a class of linear switched singular systems. The EID approach defines an EID signal, is defined for the control input channel and has the same impact on the system as exogenous disturbances. Additionally, it employs an observer to estimate the EID and achieves good disturbance-rejection performance. However, in the EID method, the coefficient matrix of the observer needs to be consistent with the coefficient matrix of the original system, which limits the application of the method. So, a dynamic state observer is designed to reconstruct the system state and estimate the disturbance in this study. Based on the state feedback control strategy, a disturbance-rejection control law containing disturbance information is designed and a closed-loop control system structure is established. Subsequently, the state equation of the closed-loop system is reorganised and decomposed into an algebraic equation and a differential equation using the SDT. Then, a Lyapunov function with few decision variables is designed to obtain an admissible criterion for the closed-loop system and the controller gains under arbitrary switching signals. Finally, the effectiveness of the presented method is verified via numerical simulations.
