Abstract:The phase equilibrium of the binary system carbon dioxide + propene oxide has been determined for carbon dioxide mole fractions from 0.1 to 0.7 and temperatures from (303.2 to 353.2) K. The experimental measurements of bubble points were carried out in an experimental device incorporating a moveable piston and a vision window. A good description of the phase behavior in a wide range of temperatures with the Peng-Robinson equation of state using the one-parameter conventional van der Waals mixing rule has been obtained, on the basis of measured data and literature data for the carbon dioxide + propene oxide system. The binary interaction parameter k(ij) has been optimized to match experimental data at each temperature separately and found to be temperature-dependent, especially at high temperatures.

Abstract:Vapor liquid equilibrium data for system of ethyl acetate-pyridine at the pressures of 101.33 kPa, 66.66 kPa and 40.00 kPa were determined with a circulating glass still. The experimental data at different pressures satisfied the requirement of Herington抯 thermodynamic consistency. Those data were also correlated by Wilson and NRTL activity coefficient models, equivalent results were obtained, the maximum deviations of calculated vapor composition and bubble temperature from those of experimental were 0.0075 and 0.29℃ respectively.

Abstract:Isothermal vapor–liquid equilibrium measurements for the ternary mixture carbon dioxide + cyclopentane + cyclohexane at 353.15 K are reported. Phase equilibrium measurements were made in a high-pressure visual cell with variable volume using a static-analytical method with phases sampling by rapid online sample injectors (ROLSI) coupled to a gas chromatograph (GC) for analysis. The new measured data were modelled with the RK–PR equation of state (EoS) coupled with classical van der Waals (two-parameter conventional mixing rule, 2PCMR).

Abstract:CO 2 -based binary mixtures have good performance and environmental friendliness, which are considered a good choice for working fluid in cooling and power cycles. Analyzing the properties of the vapor-liquid equilibrium is used to calculate the enthalpy and entropy of the dew and bubble point, which are fundamental parameters of thermodynamics. In this study, we measure the vapor-liquid equilibrium experimental data of CO 2 -propylene mixture by static thermostatic analysis experimental system. The working fluids in this state are repeatedly collected from the equilibrium cell to the gas chromatograph by the two electromagnetic capillary samplers to analyze the molar fractions. The maximum pressure deviation and maximum relative pressure deviation of the saturation vapor pressure of propylene are -0.004 MPa and -0.38%, respectively. We measure 5 sets of isotherms from 283.73 to 323.72 K, two of which are supercritical temperatures (313.73 K and 323.72 K). The pressure is up to about 6.4 MPa. The standard experimental uncertainties of mole fractions, pressure, and temperature are within 0.004, 0.002 MPa, and 0.06 K, respectively. The association model (the Peng-Robinso equation incorporating the Wong-Sandler mixing rule and the Non-Random Two-Liquid model) is used to fit the obtained vapor-liquid equilibrium data. The value of the average absolute relative deviation of pressure (AARD p ) and the average absolute deviation of vapor phase molar fractions of component 1 (AAD y 1 ) is 0.29 % and 0.0062, respectively. The relative volatility under the five isotherms is also calculated, and most of the experimental data were within ± 5 % deviation.

Abstract:The design and operation of low temperature processes involving natural gas requires the phase equilibrium knowledge about the mixture (nitrogen (N-2) + methane (CH4)) over extensive pressure and temperature ranges. In this work, the experimental apparatus for the vapor-liquid equilibrium is built, and vapor-liquid equilibrium data of the mixture (N-2 + CH4) have been measured in the temperature range from (110 to 125) K. The experimental method used in this work is a single-cycle type. The vapor-liquid equilibrium experimental data of the mixture (N-2 + CH4) are correlated by the Peng-Robinson equation-of-state + the first Modified Huron Vidal mixing rule + Wilson model, and the adjustable parameters of the activity coefficient are given. The correlated results show that they exhibit a good agreement with the experimental data. The average vapor composition deviation and the maximum vapor composition deviation are 0.0057 and 0.0166, respectively; the average relative pressure deviation and the maximum pressure deviation are 0.75 % and 2.25 %, respectively. In addition, no zoetrope exists in the binary system, and the system reveals slightly positive deviations from ideality from the correlation results.

Abstract:New vapour–liquid–liquid and vapour–liquid equilibrium data to complement the existing ones are measured at six temperatures (308.15 K to 383.15 K) and at pressures up to 182.9 K using an analytic-static method with phases sampling via special valves (" AnTVisVarCap ", as defined by Prof. Ralf Dohrn and co-workers) for the carbon dioxide (1) + 1-hexanol (2) binary system. Four out of the six isotherm reported here are measured for the first time. The main component of the high-pressure setup is a 60 cm 3 visual cell.The new isotherms are compared with the available literature which is also reviewed and analysed. It should be noted that among the data already published, only one other research group reported the compositions of both phases at equilibrium, as we did previously by using another experimental method. The new and literature data were modelled with Peng-Robinson (PR) and Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) equations of state based on a semi-predictive procedure to reproduce as well as possible the minimum and the maximum of the critical curve(s) using one set of binary interaction parameters. The influence of critical data and acentric factors of pure components on the phase behaviour of their binary system is discussed. Although the values of the critical pressures and acentric factors of pure substances are not very different in the database we used, the models predict type III or IV phase behaviour with the same set of binary interaction parameters. This sensitivity, which was not observed for other systems we studied, could be explained by the alcohol structure and high asymmetry of the system. Therefore, we analysed in more depth the influence of the critical temperatures and pressures, as well as the acentric factors of carbon dioxide and 1-hexanol and exemplified for one temperature located above the system UCEP's temperature.

Abstract:CO2-based binary mixtures are excellent alternative working fluids due to their environmentally friendly and thermodynamically favorable properties. The vapor -liquid equilibrium properties of mixtures are necessary to determine the enthalpy and entropy of the dew point and bubble point. Isothermal vapor -liquid equilibrium data for the CO2/R161 are measured at temperatures ranging from 283.15 K to 323.15 K and at pressures ranging from 1.28 MPa to 7.30 MPa. The temperature and pressure of the mixtures are measured using a static thermostatic analysis vapor -liquid equilibrium system. Two electromagnetic capillary samplers repeatedly collect the vapor -liquid phase components from the equilibrium cell for analysis via gas chromatograph. The standard uncertainties for mole fractions, pressure, and temperature are 0.004, 0.002 MPa, and 0.06 K, respectively. The Peng-Robinson equation, incorporating the Wong -Sandler mixing rule and the Non -Random Two -Liquid model, is utilized to fit the obtained vapor -liquid equilibrium data. The average absolute relative deviation of pressure is 0.56%, and the average absolute deviation of vapor phase molar fractions is 0.0049. The relative volatility under the five isotherms is also calculated, and most of the experimental data fall within a deviation of +/- 5% from experimental values/ calculated results. In addition, this model accurately predicts the critical point line of the CO2 and R161 binary mixtures through the binary interaction parameters.

Abstract:The isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium data for carbon dioxide-dimethyl ether-methanol-water quter-nary system were measured at 298.15、313.15、333.15、353.15 K in a self-sucking type agited static equilibrium cell. The pressure of cell was recorded using an on-line computer and acquisition system. The composition of vapor phase and liquid phase were analysed using gas chromatography. Thermodynamic calculation of vapor-liquid equilibrium data for carbon dioxide-dimethyl ether-methanol-water quternary system were carried out using method based on equation of state-activity coefficient, PR equation for fugacity coefficient of gas phase and NRTL equation for activity coefficient of liquid phase. The calculated data fit the experimental data well.

Abstract:The isothermal solubility data of carbon dioxide in methanol were measured at temperatures from 21315 K to 273.15 K and pressures from vacuum up to 3.3450 MPa. The experimental method was a static analytical method with liquid sampling using a heated sample cylinder coupled to a gas chromatograph for analysis. The SRK EOS with the vdW one-fluid mixing rule was used to describe the equilibrium behavior of the vapor phase in the system for carbon dioxide + methanol binary mixture. The equilibrium behavior of the liquid phase was separately described by the NRTL and Wilson activity coefficient models. The measured data were separately correlated with SRK-vdW-NRTL and SRK-vdW-Wilson models. The calculated results indicate that the SRK-vdW-NRTL model predicts false liquid-liquid splitting, and the SRK-vdW-Wilson model not only matches well with the measured data but also predicts optimally VLE data of the system from 213.15 K to 273.15 K. Abstract:Alkane mixture phase equilibria is required for a range of industrial applications, most particularly for the petroleum industries. Mixtures containing light and heavy normal alkanes are of even further significance due to their non-ideal thermodynamic behavior. In this work, for the first time, the ternary system of C 1 + C 10 + C 28 was investigated experimentally to obtain bubble point pressures at various concentrations and temperatures ranging from 373 up to 445 K. The synthetic method of phase equilibrium measurements was utilized, which is known to have high accuracy. The resulting bubble points for the mixtures ranged in pressure from about 3 MPa up to 6 MPa. The data indicated that methane concentrations had the greatest impact, not only on the magnitude of the bubble point pressure, but also on the slope of its temperature trend. The relative concentrations of n-decane and n-octacosane had far less impact on the bubble point curves. The results were also modelled using the Peng-Robinson equation of state, and it was found that this equation has the capability to predict the data with an AARD% of 5.1%. When temperature-independent binary interaction parameters were optimized to the data, the AARD% reduced to 2.4%. Although the components vary greatly in size, perhaps the success of the Peng-Robinson equation of state for this mixture could be attributed to the fact that it was developed for hydrocarbon mixtures, and so, a reason for its popularity in the petroleum industries, alongside its simplicity and ease of use.

Abstract:This work reports experimental phase equilibrium data for the ternary system involving ε-caprolactone, carbon dioxide, and dichloromethane. Such data provide fundamental information to conduct polymerization reactions in supercritical carbon dioxide medium. The experiments were performed using a variable-volume view cell over the temperature range from 323.15 to 353.15 K and different mass ratios of dichloromethane to ε-caprolactone (0.5:1, 1:1, and 2:1). Phase transitions of vapor–liquid at the bubble point (VLE-PB), liquid–liquid (LLE), and vapor–liquid–liquid (VLLE) types were observed. The experimental results were modeled using the Peng–Robinson EoS with the van der Waals mixing rule, resulting in a good representation of experimental phase equilibrium data.

Abstract:High-pressure vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for the carbon dioxide + p-cymene system at 313.15, 333.15, and 353.15 K and pressures up to 12.0 MPa were measured by a flow-type visualization apparatus based on the dynamic analytical method with sampling. The measured VLE data were discussed and compared to existing literature results for the purpose of validating the reliability of the method, as well as the apparatus applied in this study. Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) and Peng-Robinson equations of state combined with Quadratic and Adachi-Sugie (AS) mixing rules were utilized to represent our experimental values. The calculation results indicate that all four models are comparable, but the SRK/AS model is more accurate for our experimental data than other models.

Abstract:High-pressure vapor-liquid equilibrium data for the binary system of 1-methylnaphthalene + CO2 were measured using a set of visible phase equilibrium-measuring apparatus with the analytical isobaric-isothermal method, and then, the measured data were correlated with the Peng-Robinson equation of state (PR EOS) and Soave-Redlich-Kwong equation of state (SRK EOS), in combination with different mixing rules of Adachi-Sugie, Melhem, and Panagiotopoulos-Reid. Compared with the correlation derivations from different models, the model of PR EOS + PR mixing rule leads to a relatively satisfactory correlation for the 1-methylnaphthalene + CO2 system.

Abstract:High pressure bubble- and dewpoint data were measured for ternary mixtures of CO2 + methyl palmitate + (methyl stearate or methyl oleate). The reported data were measured in the range T = 308 − 348 K, p = 7.1 − 21.8 MPa, and total solute (fatty acid methyl ester) mass fractions ranging from 0.020 to 0.618 g⋅g−1. The phase transition pressures in all the mixtures increase monotonically as temperature increases. Investigation of the ternary phase behaviour indicates that the differences observed between the binary CO2 + methyl stearate and CO2 + methyl oleate systems due to the presence of a C=C bond on methyl oleate, are translated to the ternary mixtures. The phase transition pressures also decrease almost linearly as the amount of methyl palmitate increases suggesting no significant interactions between the solutes. Prediction of the ternary data with the CPA equation of state are in good agreement with the experimental data provided binary CO2 + solute interaction parameters are fitted.

Abstract:Carbon dioxide exhibits a richness of high-pressure polymorphs ranging from typical molecular solids to fully extended covalent solids, which, in turn, makes it a very appealing topic of fundamental research in condensed-matter physics and simultaneously provides valuable insights into the routes of developing possibly novel materials with advanced properties. The single-crystal x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Brillouin scattering spectroscopy of CO2-I were performed under high temperature and pressure. Densities, acoustic velocities, and elastic moduli of CO2-I were obtained along 300-, 400-, and 580-K isotherms up to the phase-transition boundaries. CO2-I transforms to phase III and phase IV at room temperature (at 12.19 GPa) and 580 K (at 10.83 GPa), respectively. It was observed that high temperature suppresses pressure-induced stress in single-crystal CO2-I. All elastic constants and thermal elasticity parameters of CO2-I were obtained and analyzed using finite-strain theory and thermal equation of state modeling. The C-11, C-12, and K-s increase almost linearly with pressure, while shear moduli C-44 and G exhibit a downward trend with pressure, showing a noticeable reduction at higher temperature. Elastic anisotropy A is practically independent of pressure along each isotherm and increases from 1.75 to 1.9.

Abstract:Twelve new ternary high-pressure bubble- and dew-point data sets for (n-carboxylic acid + n-alkane), (methyl ester + n-alkane), and (methyl ester + n-carboxylic acid) mixtures in carbon dioxide (CO2) are presented in this study. For these mixtures, (C8 and C10) n-carboxylic acids, (C12 and C14) methyl esters, and (C12 and C14) n-alkanes are considered. A liquid–liquid or liquid–liquid–vapor phase equilibria region was observed in the low solute fraction region for the 50 wt % n-tetradecane +50 wt % methyl myristate system, similar to the phase behavior observed for the CO2 + n-tetradecane binary which exhibits type III phase behavior. Additionally, both the n-alkane + (n-carboxylic acid or methyl ester) groups showed indications of enhanced mixture solubility in comparison to the comprising binaries, with the n-tetradecane + n-octanoic acid and n-tetradecane + methyl myristate mixtures presenting cosolvency at the experimental conditions considered. This is indicative of significant solute + solute interactions within these systems. In contrast the phase behavior of the n-carboxylic acid + methyl ester systems were essentially the average of the two comprising binaries, indicating that the phase behavior in these systems is not significantly affected by solute + solute interactions. Finally, the thermodynamic modeling of the data with the RK-ASPEN property method was considered, taking only solvent + solute binary interaction parameters (BIPs) into account. The solvent + solute BIPs were found to be sufficient to provide an adequate description of the experimental data, with the dew-point region generally being the best described region.
