Abstract:Chinese calligraphy is an art unique to Asian cultures. This paper presents a novel method for generating outline font from historical documents of Chinese calligraphy. The method consists of detecting feature points from character boundaries, and approximating contour segments. The feature-point-detection is based on statistical method considering the characteristics of a calligrapher. A database of basic strokes and some overlapping stroke components of Chinese characters extracted from the calligrapher are constructed in advance. And the relation between the noise level of stroke contours and the standard deviation of Gaussian kernel is retrieved from the database using linear regression. Thus, given an input character contour, the standard deviation for smoothing the noisy character contour can be calculated. Furthermore, a new method is employed to determine the feature points at the standard deviation. The feature points at a character contour subdivide the contour into segments. Each segment can be fitted by a parametric curve to obtain the outline font. Some experimental results and the comparisons to existing methods are also presented in the paper.

Abstract:For the disadvantages of bitmap font,such as large storage,the quality of zooming was hard to guarantee,this paper designed an approach for auto-generating curve contour character from bitmap.The main idea of the implementation was to extract the contour data of NuShu character,and then proposed an approach for detecting feature points based on maximum error,at last fitted the contour based on straight line and quadratic Bezier curves and stored the data of curves and generated the character of NuShu described by curves.The result shows that this method is very simple and reduces the storage space greatly.The generated curve contour is the same as the original font and it also can eliminate burrs caused by hand-writing.This method is also the basis of computer processing of NuShu characters.

Abstract:This article presents a general framework for programmed automatic generation of artistic fonts. By parameterizing various font attributes, such as color and aspect ratio, the authors are able to generate artistically styled fonts in almost unlimited variations to suit any type of design requirement. The authors demonstrate their experiments on generating fonts in an abstract style similar to Kandinsky's, built on a collection of the artist's styled patterns. The approach generates fonts composed of vector strokes and is thus highly scalable, limited only by the computer hardware.

Abstract:This paper presents a method for generating dynamic Chinese Font. The outline of Chinese characters is expressed with Fourier descriptor. Dynamic Chinese font is created by modifying harmony and the coefficiencies of Fourier series. The shape of character in dynamic font is random. It is determined only when the character is rendered. This kind of font may be used to simulate hand written Chinese characters, create character variants and design new symbols.

Abstract:Based on reference image, this paper presents a new approach automatic rendering of pen-and-ink illustration approach. The approach extracts character vector curves of an image by an algorithm which embodies drawing mechanism. Directed by those vector curves a vector field can be generated, with density controlled by the grayscales of the reference image. By using the vector field to drive the pen-and-ink strokes, a pen-and-ink styles illustration is drawn.

Abstract:Font Composition may be used to generate multiple kinds of Chinese font to satisfy the requirements of desktop publishing, advertising and graphics arts. In this paper, we employ shape operation in algebra of geometric shapes to combine the styles of multiple fonts. We decompose the Chinese characters into individual strokes and perform composition. With this method, the part number of corresponding character and the tracing direction of individual contours are the same. In addition, the start points in contours have consistent relation and the quality of composed characters is improved. This method may also be used to simulate handwritten characters, generate dynamic Chinese font and morph 2-D geometric shapes.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel algorithmic method for automatically generating personal handwriting styles of Chinese characters through an example-based approach. The method first splits a whole Chinese character into multiple constituent parts, such as strokes, radicals, and frequent character components. The algorithm then analyzes and learns the characteristics of character handwriting styles both defined in the Chinese national font standard and those exhibited in a person's own handwriting records. In such an analysis process, we adopt a parametric representation of character shapes and also examine the spatial relationships between multiple constituent components of a character. By imitating shapes of individual character components as well as the spatial relationships between them, the proposed method can automatically generate personalized handwritings following an example-based approach. To explore the quality of our automatic generation algorithm, we compare the computer generated results with the authentic human handwriting samples, which appear satisfying for entertainment or mobile applications as agreed by Chinese subjects in our user study.

Abstract:We present an approach to creating Chinese calligraphy with particular style from learning author’s written works automatically. Our first contribution is a method to represent Chinese character topology via fuzzy relative position. Our second contribution is an algorithm to take topological features as features fed into the evaluation model, which is a decision tree algorithm. Our third contribution is an algorithm of heuristic search in the optimization glyph phase. To improve the converge speed, we introduce hypothesis testing and the decay function of transformation amplitude. The experiments demonstrate our algorithm can obtain the similar style Chinese calligraphy with training samples.

Abstract:To adequately reveal aesthetic value of Chinese calligraphy, the way to precisely generate characters on freeform shapes is a critical issue. In this paper, we present a novel method to solve the problem. Firstly, to avoid the disadvantage of pictures and obtain an excellent visual effect, we vectorize Chinese calligraphy characters by disk B-spline curve (DBSC). Secondly, instead of the traditional texture mapping method, we innovatively employ geodesic computation and exponential map method to calculate accurate texture coordinates. The geodesic computation is to calculate the geodesic distance between every two vertexes of the character mapped region. And the exponential map is to obtain every vertex's geodesic coordinates. Thirdly, 3D points coordinates on surfaces that correspond to vectored character in tangent plane are acquired, therefore the vectored character is able to be mapped onto surfaces. At last, some experiments are accomplished to test and verify the accuracy and efficiency of our method.

Abstract:A new method of Chinese or English font derivation based on morphologic operator is proposed.The difference kinds style font can be generated through calculating the Minkowski operator. The principle of this method is also proved and the morphologic addition algorithms for two polygons and Beizer' s curwes with circle are provided. The experiments show that this method can generate multiple style, high quality font with simple computation.

Abstract:The process of designing fonts traditionally requires a great deal of manpower, taking up to one year to complete one style set. In computer vision (CV) and computer graphics (CG), the automatic generation of Chinese fonts with a large number of complex glyphs remains a challenging and persistent problem. In this article, we propose an end-to-end network for generating 9169 Chinese characters without the need for human intervention. Due to the similarity of the strokes of the Chinese characters, different strokes will be recognized as the same type of stroke, resulting in errors. In this article maps the semantic information of Chinese character stroke categories to different stages of the encoder and adjusts the stroke category semantics in specific channels to ensure the synthesis of correct strokes. A deformation attention Skip-connection module was designed to adapt to font generation tasks by learning offsets in features from the decoder and encoder, weights in a cross-channel interactive manner, and adaptively re-scaling features using the learned weights and offsets. There are only a few parameters involved in this method, but it provides significant performance improvements. Compared to the prior art, the method employed by us outperforms it in terms of generating commercial fonts and handwritten fonts, which can help font designers with font design and improve the efficiency of font libraries.

Abstract:A method of curve fitting based on uniform quadratic B-spline with shape parameter is discussed in this paper. We apply this method in generating Jiaguwen outlines and change the fitting curves by adjusting the shape parameters. During the process of generating fitting curves, the least square method is used to improve the accuracy of curves fitting. The results of experiment demonstrate the validity of this method.

Abstract:A spatial statistic based contour feature representation is proposed to achieve extraction of local contour feature from Chinese calligraphy character, and a features fusion strategy is designed to automatically generate new hybrid character, making well use of contour feature of calligraphy and structural feature of font. The features fusion strategy employs dilation and erosion operations iteratively to inject the extracted contour feature from Chinese calligraphy into font, which are similar to "pad" and "cut" in a sculpture progress. Experimental results demonstrate that the generated new hybrid character hold both contour feature of calligraphy and structural feature of font. Especially, two kinds of Chinese calligraphy skills called "Fei Bai" and "Zhang Mo" are imitated in the hybrid character. "Fei Bai" depicts a phenomenon that part of a stroke fade out due to the fast movement of hair brush or the lack of ink, and "Zhang Mo" describes a condition that hair brush holds so much ink that strokes overlap.

Abstract:Abstract Point-by-point comparison interpolation is a widely used algorithm in laser marking system. This algorithm plays a very important role in controlling the laser trajectory and fitting the image trajectory. Because the point-by-point comparison interpolation method has the characteristics of intuitive operation, uniform pulse output and convenient adjustment, it is a kind of interpolation algorithm which is more suitable for the application of marking machine system. In order to improve the marking efficiency of vector text in laser marking system, by analyzing the outline structure of TrueType font and the properties of Bezier curve, an optimization algorithm for straight line approximation of TrueType font outline is presented, and the theoretical analysis and experimental verification are carried out. Firstly, the Bezier curve in the TrueType font outline is segmented according to the deCasteljau recursive algorithm, and then the curve is replaced by the connection of the head and tail control points. Finally, the approximate line segment is interpolated to generate marking data, and the straight line approximation outline is compared with the standard TrueType font outline. The results show that under the condition of satisfying the accuracy, the algorithm has the advantages of simple calculation process and a small number of nodes, and improves the marking efficiency of vector text. The traditional point-by-point comparison interpolation algorithm has some problems such as low precision and slow speed. In order to improve the performance of the algorithm, the traditional point-by-point comparison interpolation algorithm is improved, and the calculation and simulation are carried out. The results show that the accuracy and speed of the improved interpolation algorithm are obviously improved. The patch is extracted from the point cloud data, and the feature patch is generated by patch growth and fusion, and the feature line is constructed quickly according to the proposed patch two-way index method, and finally the point cloud plane contour is generated. Experiments show that this algorithm can generate point cloud contours quickly, accurately and effectively.
A Kai Style Contour Beautification Method for Chinese Handwriting Characters

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a novel contour-based method to beautify online handwritten Chinese character to the Kai style calligraphy. According to the feature and structure of Kai style calligraphy, Bezier curve is used to sketch the user-input stroke segment contour and the corner contour. We get the whole contour path of beautified character by connecting stroke segments' contour and corners' contour end-to-end. Anti-aliasing technology is used to make the edge of the contour fine and smooth. Finally, the path-fill algorithm is adopted to fill the inner of the contour. Our system is proved to be effective and efficient. Meanwhile, users can choose any color for the contour and the inner, which is more convenient for users' design.
