Abstract:Recent advances in the synthesis of antibacterial nanoparticles (NPs) have extended the application of antibacterial activity and external force field responsiveness. Here, we report on the design of bifunctional Fe3O4@Ag NPs based on chemical adsorption and specific silver reduction reaction. The enhanced antibacterial activities of these nanocomposites are investigated by using E. Coll and S. Aureus as test bacterial spawn. The Fe3O4@Ag NPs exhibit a saturation magnetization (M-s) of 2,0 emu/g, and possess an average diameter of about 30 nm. The antibacterial assays indicate that the nanocomposites demonstrate effective inhibitory and bactericidal activity against the two bacteria. Under controlled experiments, the inhibitory ratio of both two bacteria is up to 96.9% after 24 h. Incubation carried out in the presence of larger amounts of nanocomposites could eliminate nearly 100% of the E. coli. These nanocomposites demonstrate a good magnetic response that endows them with potential magnetosensitive antibacterial material application. Furthermore, the synthesis concept used in bifunctional Fe3O4@Ag NPs can be extended to other magnetic-core-based antibacterial materials.
