Comparison and reflection of several exploratory clinical trial approaches

Abstract:While the cost of new drug research has been increased, the output rate of new drugs has been declined. Therefore, FDA proposed exploratory clinical trials in 2004. ICH refined and expanded this concept in the relative guideline in 2009. Compared with traditional clinical trials, exploratory clinical trial, also called phase 0 clinical trials, has no therapeutic intent; it is not intended to examine clinical tolerability and involves a small number of human subjects at limited dose. Different research programs have different pre-clinical requirements and scopes. As a new drug research technology, the introduction of this system is very feasible.
