Abstract:We give applications of known and new Liouville type theorems to universal singularity and decay estimates for non scale invariant elliptic problems, including Lane-Emden and Schrödinger type systems. This applies to various classes of nonlinearities with regular variation and possibly different behaviors at $0$ and $\infty$. To this end, we adapt the method from [72] to elliptic systems, which relies on a generalized rescaling technique and on doubling arguments from [55]. This is in particular facilitated by new Liouville type theorems in the whole space and in a half-space, for elliptic problems without scale invariance, that we obtain. Our results apply to some non-cooperative systems, for which maximum principle based techniques such as moving planes do not apply. To prove these Liouville type theorems, we employ two methods, respectively based on Pohozaev-type identities combined with functional inequalities on the unit sphere, and on reduction to a scalar equation by proportionality of components. In turn we will survey the existing methods for proving Liouville-type theorems for superlinear elliptic equations and systems, and list some of the typical existing results for (Sobolev subcritical) systems. In the case of scalar equations, we also revisit the classical Gidas-Spruck integral Bernstein method, providing some improvements which turn out to be efficient for certain nonlinearities, and we next compare the performances of various methods on a benchmark example.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a fractional elliptic system with indefinite nonlinearities. We prove that every positive bounded solution of the system is monotone increasing along x1 direction by using the direct method of moving planes. Based on this monotonicity, we obtain the nonexistence of positive solutions and a Liouville type results for the fractional elliptic system. As an application, we get the Liouville type results for the fractional elliptic system with cubic nonlinearities.

Abstract:In this note, we classify solutions to a class of Monge–Ampère equations whose right hand side may be degenerate or singular in the half space. Solutions to these equations are special solutions to a class of fourth order equations, including the affine maximal hypersurface equation, in the half space. Both the Dirichlet boundary value and Neumann boundary value cases are considered.

Abstract:We study a general class of fully nonlinear boundary-degenerate elliptic equations that admit a trivial solution. Although no boundary conditions are posed together with the equations, we show that the operator degeneracy actually generates an implicit boundary condition. Under appropriate assumptions on the degeneracy rate and regularity of the operator, we then prove that there exist no bounded solutions other than the trivial one. Our method is based on the arguments for uniqueness of viscosity solutions to state constraint problems for Hamilton-Jacobi equations. We obtain similar results for fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations. Several concrete examples of the equations that satisfy the assumptions are also given.

Applying the Gidas–Spruck type estimates, we prove that under suitable conditions, the equation does not have positive solutions. As an application of the nonexistence result, we provide optimal universal estimates for positive solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following quasilinear elliptic systems-Delta mu=f1(u,v)inRN,-Delta mv=f2(u,v)inRN.Here Delta m is the well-known m-Laplacian operator, m>1. Under appropriate conditions on the functions f1 and f2, we prove some Liouville-type nonexistence theorems. The Liouville-type results can be applied to non-cooperative quasilinear Schrodinger-type systems, and we obtain a priori estimates, singularity and decay estimates for the non-negative solutions of the non-cooperative quasilinear Schrodinger-type systems.

Abstract:We establish an area growth estimate for solutions that are bounded from above of the Liouville equation $\Delta u+K e^{2u}=0$ with a positive pinched curvature $0<\lambda\leq K\leq\Lambda$. As an application, we provide a new proof of Eremenko-Gui-Li-Xu's result in [EGLX]. We also classify solutions with an upper bound in the half plane with the boundary having constant geodesic curvature.

Abstract:A fundamental theorem of Liouville asserts that positive entire harmonic functions in Euclidean spaces must be constant. A remarkable Liouville-type theorem of Caffarelli-Gidas-Spruck states that positive entire solutions of $-\Delta u=u^{ {(n+2)}/{(n-2)} }$, $n\ge 3$, are unique modulo Möbius transformations. Far-reaching extensions were established for general fully nonlinear conformally invariant equations through the works of Chang-Gursky-Yang, Li-Li, Li, and Viaclovsky. In this paper, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of such Liouville-type theorems. This leads to necessary and sufficient conditions for local gradient estimates of solutions to hold, assuming a one-sided bound on the solutions, for a wide class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations involving Schouten tensors. A pivotal advancement in proving these Liouville-type theorems is our enhanced understanding of solutions to such equations near isolated singularities. In particular, we utilize earlier results of Caffarelli-Li-Nirenberg on lower- and upper-conical singularities. For general conformally invariant fully nonlinear elliptic equations, we prove that a viscosity super- (sub-)solution can be extended across an isolated singularity if and only if it is a lower- (upper-)conical singularity. We also provide necessary and sufficient conditions for lower- (upper-)conical behavior of a function near isolated singularities in terms of its conformal Hessian. As an application of our Liouville theorems and local gradient estimates, we establish new existence and compactness results for conformal metrics on a closed Riemannian manifold with prescribed symmetric functions of the Schouten (Ricci) tensor, allowing the scalar curvature of the conformal metrics to have varying signs.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish Liouville type results for semilinear subelliptic systems associated with the sub-Laplacian on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ involving two different kinds of general nonlinearities. The main technique of the proof is the method of moving planes combined with some integral inequalities replacing the role of maximum principles. As a special case, we obtain the Liouville theorem for the Lane-Emden system on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^{n}$, which also appears to be a new result in the literature.

Abstract: In this paper, we study a general class of Hessian elliptic equations, including the Monge-Amp\`ere equation, the $k$-Hessian equation and $p$-Monge-Amp\`ere equations. We propose new additional condition on the solution and prove Liouville theorem under this assumption. We show that our general condition covers as special cases numerous sets of assumptions known in the literature which were tailored for specific equations. Thus we obtain a significant generalization of multiple isolated Liouville theorems and conditional interior estimates.

Abstract:We use maximum principle to give a new proof for the Liouville theorem of the equation $\Delta u + u^{\alpha} = 0, u \geq 0 , 0 < \alpha < \frac{n + 2}{n - 2}$ in $\mathbb R^n$. Besides we can use this method to prove the Liouville theorem of the equation $\Delta U + b\cdot \nabla U + h U^{\alpha} = 0, U \geq 0, 0 < \alpha < \frac{n + 2}{n - 2}$ on the complete Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:In this paper we classify positive solutions to the critical semilinear elliptic equation in $\mathbb{H}^n$. We prove that they are the Jerison-Lee's bubbles, provided $n=1$ or $n\geq 2$ and a suitable control at infinity holds. The proofs are based on a classical Jerison-Lee's differential identity and on pointwise/integral estimates recently obtained for critical semilinear and quasilinear elliptic equations in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In particular, the result in $\mathbb{H}^1$ can be seen as the analogue of the celebrated Caffarelli-Gidas-Spruck classification theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Neumann problem of Monge-Ampère equations in Semi-space. For two dimensional case, we prove that its viscosity convex solutions must be a quadratic polynomial. When the space dimension n ≥ 3, we show that the conclusion still holds if either the boundary value is zero or the viscosity convex solutions restricted on some n − 2 dimensional subspace is bounded from above by a quadratic function. Abstract:We study nonnegative solutions to the following Hardy-H´enon type equations involving higher order fractional Laplacians in R n 0 } which have a possible singularity at the origin, where σ is a real number satisfying 0 < σ < n/ 2 , −∞ < α < 2 σ and p > 1 . By a more direct approach without using the super poly-harmonic properties of nonnegative solutions, we establish an integral representation for nonnegative solutions to the above higher order fractional equations whether the singularity { 0 } is removable or not. As the ﬁrst application, we prove Liouville theorems for nonnegative solutions to the above equations with removable singularity for all σ ∈ (0 , n/ 2) when This, in particular, covers a gap occurring for non-integral σ ∈ (1 , n/ 2) and α ∈ (0 , 2 σ ) in the current literature. As the second application, we show the radial symmetry of nonnegative solutions to the above equations in the critical case or in the case where the singularity at the origin is not removable. Such radial symmetry would be useful in studying the higher order singular Yamabe problems and characterizing isolated singularities of the higher order Hardy-H´enon equations.

By establishing an equivalent integral equation, we give a lower bound of the Kelvin transformation . Then, by constructing a new comparison function, we apply the maximum principle based on comparisons and the method of moving planes to obtain that u only depends on x n . Based on this, we prove the non-existence of non-negative solutions.

Abstract:We study degenerate quasilinear elliptic equations on Riemannian manifolds and obtain several Liouville theorems. Notably, we provide rigorous proof asserting the nonexistence of positive solutions to the subcritical Lane-Emden-Fowler equations over complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. These findings serve as a significant generalization of Gidas and Spruck's pivotal work (Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 34, 525-598, 1981) which focused on the semilinear case, as well as Serrin and Zou's contributions (Acta Math. 189, 79-142, 2002) within the context of Euclidean geometries.
