Abstract:In this work, we investigate the prescribed-time consensus tracking problem for second-order multi-agent systems under directed topology. A new hybrid distributed observer for each follower is developed to estimate the states of the leader in prescribed time. Based on the observer, a novel prescribed-time sliding mode surface that is nonsingular and the corresponding tracking controller are designed such that the full state consensus tracking is achieved within a prescribed time. The salient feature of the proposed control scheme lies in that not only accurate tracking can be achieved within the prescribed time but also the numerical implementation problem arising from the infinite time-varying gain is avoided. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by the numerical simulation.

Abstract:This paper delves into the investigation of finite-time consensus for second-order nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) with external disturbances under directed topology. The MASs considered in this study consist of n followers and a leader, all of which are subject to bounded disturbances. First, a continuous nonsingular integral terminal sliding mode is designed, which can effectively eliminate the singularity and chattering. Then, a finite-time disturbance observer is introduced to estimate and compensate for disturbances. Subsequently, an integral sliding mode adaptive controller is designed to enhance system's robustness, improve response speed, and increase tracking accuracy. Furthermore, Lyapunov theory is utilized to demonstrate that the system achieves finite-time consensus under a directed connected topology. Finally, we apply a simulation to verify the efficacy of the proposed consensus control protocol.

Abstract:This paper addresses the distributed finite-time tracking control problem for second-order multi-agent systems. First, we propose a finite-time tracking protocol for multi-agent systems by using state feedback. Then, a new class of observer-based control algorithms are designed for achieving finite-time consensus tracking in multi-agent systems with a single active leader, where each agent can only share its position states with its neighbors. Within the same context, the present control algorithms are then extended to solve the finite-time containment tracking problem for multi-agent systems in the presence of multiple active leaders. It is theoretically shown that the position states of the followers will converge to that of the leader or a convex hull spanned by those of the leaders, respectively, in finite time. Furthermore, the finite-time formation control problem is discussed. The effectiveness of the results is also illustrated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper addresses the distributed finite-time consensus tracking problem for nonlinear multi-agent systems with external disturbances under fixed undirected and directed communication topologies. A distributed tracking algorithm is proposed, which is based only on the relative information between neighboring agents. By using tools from sliding-mode control theory, it is theoretically shown that the states of the followers can track that of the leader in finite time, if there exists a directed path from the leader to each follower. As a byproduct, some sufficient conditions for finite-time consensus tracking of multi-agent systems without external disturbances are also presented. A numerical example is finally given to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the distributed finite-time consensus tracking problem for a group of autonomous agents modeled by multiple non-identical second-order nonlinear systems. First, a class of distributed finite-time protocols are proposed based on the relative position and relative velocity measurements. By providing a topology-dependent Lyapunov function, it is shown that distributed consensus tracking can be achieved in finite time under the condition that the nonlinear errors between the leader and the followers are bounded. Then, a new class of observer-based algorithms are designed to solve the finite-time consensus tracking problem without using relative velocity measurements. The main contribution of this paper is that, by computing the value of the Lyapunov function at the initial point, the finite settling time can be theoretically estimated for second-order multi-agent systems with the proposed control protocols. Finally, the effectiveness of the analytical results is illustrated by an application in low-Earth-orbit spacecraft formation flying.

Abstract:This study addresses a consensus problem for the leader-following multi-agent systems with second-order nonlinear dynamics under a directed communication topology, without assuming the strong connectivity or containing a spanning tree characteristic. Besides, each agent can only communicate with its neighbors intermittently in this paper. An available control algorithm is introduced, by making full use of intermittent relative local information. Subsequently, some sufficient conditions are derived for achieving consensus of multi-agent systems under a general intermittent communication topology. Finally, a simulation result is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results. © 2013 TCCT, CAA.

Abstract:This article investigates the problem of fixed‐time sliding mode consensus tracking for nonlinear second‐order multi‐agent system, in the presence of disturbances and actuator attacks. The interaction topology graph of multi‐agent system is directed and switched, and the switching topologies satisfy a more general persistent dwell‐time switching mechanism. To account for the disturbances, actuator attack, and switching topologies, a nonsingular sliding mode control law with distributed switching scheme is constructed to guarantee the fixed‐time reachability to a sliding surface. By using multiple Lyapunov functions, some new sufficient criteria are derived for fixed‐time consensus tracking of the multi‐agent system with persistent dwell‐time switching topologies. To illustrate the proposed approach, we present a numerical example and a physical example of the single pendulum model.

Abstract:This study investigates the distributed finite-time consensus problem of networked agents with second-order integrators. First of all, to achieve finite-time consensus, a saturated protocol is proposed based on both relative position and relative velocity measurements. In light of the tools from homogeneous theory, it is theoretically shown that the proposed protocol will guarantee finite-time consensus under bounded control inputs. Then, based only on the relative position measurements, an observer-type protocol is developed and employed for achieving finite-time consensus. Theoretical studies indicate that under the proposed algorithms, the states of the agents will achieve finite-time consensus without velocity measurements. Finally, the effectiveness of the theoretical results is illustrated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of fixed-time consensus algorithm for the second-order multi-agent systems with bounded disturbances. The proposed fixed-time protocol can ensure a fixed-time consensus. First, the control law is designed to make the true speed track the virtual speed in a fixed time based on the fixed-time control method. Then, based on the backstepping design method, the virtual speed is designed, which makes the consensus be achieved in a fixed-time. Compared with the finite-time consensus results, the fixed-time consensus results can ensure the convergence settling time regardless of the initial states of the agents. Finally, a example is presented to show the effectiveness of the fixed-time consensus algorithm.

Abstract:This paper proposes the finite-time consensus problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems (HMASs) with second-order linear and nonlinear agents, where the communication between agents is described by directed graphs. Firstly, the integral sliding mode control (ISMC) protocol is designed, and then it is used for finite-time consensus tracking of HMASs. In the next place, by applying graph theory, Lyapunov techniques, and other mathematical methods, it is shown that each agent in heterogeneous system can achieve consensus in finite-time if certain conditions are fulfilled, most notably by using Lyapunov stability theory to obtain sufficient conditions for finite-time consensus. Eventually, simulations are utilized to demonstrate the validity of the presented theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the distributed finite-time consensus tracking problem for a group of autonomous agents modeled by double-integrator dynamics under a leader with non-zero acceleration. First of all, a distributed finite-time consensus tracking protocol is proposed based on the relative position and relative velocity measurements. By using a Lyapunov function, it is shown that distributed consensus tracking can be achieved in finite time under the condition that the acceleration of the leader is bounded but not available to followers. In particular, the settling time can be estimated efficiently by computing the value of the Lyapunov function at the initial point. Then, a new observer-based algorithm is designed to solve the finite-time consensus tracking problem when the relative velocity measurements are not available to the agents. It is proved that the states of the followers can move to that of the leader in finite time if the network topology is undirected among the followers but has a directed path from the leader to each follower. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithms is illustrated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:This article investigates the predefined-time consensus tracking problem for second-order multiagent systems (MASs) with uncertain disturbances. First, a distributed estimator is proposed to estimate the leader's states within predefined time. Then, a novel sliding mode surface is constructed and an adaptive sliding mode observer is established to estimate the uncertain disturbances within predefined time. Subsequently, by employing the predefined-time sliding surface and the adaptive technique, a novel adaptive sliding mode consensus protocol is proposed to overcome the singularity problem and achieve practical predefined-time convergence of the tracking errors to the neighborhood of origin. The Lyapunov approach is employed to prove the practical predefined-time stability of second-order MAS and the settling time is only determined by a single parameter, which facilitates the control protocol design according to the convergence time requirement. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:This article, based on dissipativity theory, aims to tackle the consensus tracking issue for Lipschitz nonlinear singular multiagent systems (MASs) with switching topologies and communication delays. Rooted at the leader node, a directed spanning tree is assumed to be contained in the union of all possible interaction graphs. Within the framework of topology switching controlled by a Markov chain, communication delays encountered in the data transmission process are reasonably considered to be time-varying and dependent on Markovian jump modes. By using tools from the stochastic Lyapunov functional technique, algebraic graph theory, and strict (Q, S, R) - (alpha) over bar dissipativity analysis, the consensus controller collecting delayed in-neighboring agents' information is designed to ensure stochastic admissibility and strict dissipativity of the resulting consensus error system. The theoretical analysis is validated by numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper addresses the event-triggered consensus tracking for general linear multi-agent systems with nonlinear uncertainty dynamics under directed communication topology. The proposed event-triggered consensus strategy relaxes the assumptions in existing works that the control gain and local inputs must be continuous. With the consensus tracking condition being satisfied, the cooperative control law with bounded parameter is developed based on the intermittent samples. It shows that if the sampling condition, in terms of LMIs, is satisfied, the resulting closed-loop general linear multi-agent uncertain systems will achieve the consensus. Simulation results are provided to verify the proposed approach.

Abstract:This article investigates the fixed‐time rotating consensus problem of second‐order multi‐agent systems in both the leaderless and leader‐following cases. Specifically, in the leaderless case, a distributed controller is developed to drive all agents to reach rotating consensus in fixed‐time. In the leader‐following case, a distributed fixed‐time observer is first proposed to estimate the position of a rotating leader. Then, a local fixed‐time output feedback controller without any velocity measurements is proposed to achieve the leader‐following motion. Furthermore, an integral sliding mode control technique is applied to handle the case where the multi‐agent system is subject to time varying external disturbances. Based on the bi‐limit homogeneity method and Lyapunov theory, we prove that all the agents reach the rotating consensus within a fixed time independent of initial conditions. Finally, simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

Abstract:Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, Ahead of Print. In this study, consensus tracking control is considered for a class of nonlinear second-order multi-agent systems in an undirected communication topology subject to input magnitude and rate constraints (MRCs). Initially, the control inputs are designed directly using the smooth hyperbolic tangent function. Subsequently, some auxiliary signals are developed to guarantee input rate constraints simultaneously. By employing the backstepping method, the proposed control scheme can ensure uniform ultimate boundedness of the closed-loop system, and the consensus tracking error of each agent can converge to a small neighborhood near zero. Finally, the single-link robot manipulator multi-agent system model is used to perform numerical simulations to demonstrate the control effect further.

Abstract:This paper investigates the consensus tracking problem of second-order nonlinear multiagent systems (MAS) with disturbance and actuator fault by the sliding mode control method. The communication topology of the MAS is directed and only part of the followers have access to the leader's information. First, a discontinuous sliding mode tracking protocol is studied for consensus tracking of the MAS. Second, to address the shortcoming of chattering and difficulty of setting the control gain in the discontinuous protocol, a continuous sliding mode tracking protocol with an adaptive mechanism is developed. The adaptive mechanism will adjust the gain of the control automatically and enable the tracking protocol to work well without prior knowledge of the MAS. Third, the performance of the adaptive sliding mode protocol for consensus tracking of the MAS in the presence of actuator faults of biased fault and partial loss of effectiveness fault is further investigated. Finally, numerical simulations are performed to illustrate the efficiency of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This study discusses fixed-time consensus problem of second-order multi-agent systems with unmeasur-able velocity and uncertain disturbance. The proposed control scheme includes two parts: one part is a fixed-time convergent state observer to estimate the unknown velocity while the other part is a fixed-time consensus algorithm based on integral sliding mode. Mathematical proof is given and some stability conditions are derived. Moreover, the settling time depends on the parameters of state observer and consensus algorithm, which can be theoretically estimated offline regardless of initial states. Finally, the proposed control scheme is employed to coordinated control of single-link robotic manipulators and the simulation examples verify the efficiency of the results.

Abstract:In this paper, consensus tracking for a class of second-order nonlinear multi-agent systems with a dynamic leader under general directed communication graphs is considered. Only relative output measurements are assumed to be available for each agent. Based on a distributed observer design, global consensus tracking controller using only relative output information is proposed. Sufficient conditions on the controller parameters are derived to ensure consensus tracking. A simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
