Abstract:With the massive integration of renewable distributed generations, reactive-voltage control may face difficulties due to the imbalance of reactive power supply and demand in control zone. A new network partition method based on community structure is proposed, which considers the reactive power balance of the zone. This method treats network partition as community partition, where the edges correspond to reactive-voltage sensitivities and the modularity function is extended with indexes reflecting reactive power balance. The traditional searching method for optimal community structure is improved to find the optimal partition. The effectiveness of the method is verified in the IEEE-33 and IEEE-39 bus systems. Case studies show that the proposed method can obtain the optimal partition number adaptively and ensure the balance between reactive power supply and demand in the zone.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem of reactive power overcompensation in the distribution network,a new compensation algorithm in which the power factor can be set randomly was deduced after studying current principles for unbalanced load compensation and modifying the compensation conditions of the Steinmetz principle. The algorithm supported by instantaneous reactive power theory,derives the general for mula of compensatory admittance. It can be used as the control strategy of static var compensator(SVC)to balance the three-phase active power;compensate loads to specified power factor and effectively prevent reactive power feeding inversely caused by overcompensation. Simu lation was carried out in the Matlab power system simulation environment. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm has high precision and good dynamic characteristics.

Abstract:This paper proposes a flexible compensation strategy for parallel-connected doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) when connected to an unbalanced weak grid. The proposed strategy has two main advantages, the voltage unbalance factor at the point of common coupling (PCC) can be continuously controlled, thus, the flexible tradeoff between the balanced DFIG output current and the balanced PCC voltage can be achieved, and the negative sequence current required by the compensation can be properly shared among the parallel DFIGs and their grid side converters according to their respective operation conditions without the need of real-time communication. The operation performance and stability of the proposed strategy are analyzed. Simulation and experimental results are carried out to verify the proposed compensation strategy.

Abstract:Because of the severe power shortage in East China Power Grid in recent years, the Grid becomes relatively weak, and has some problems in voltage stability when faults occur. To solve the voltage stability problems in the Grid, the reactive compensation should be reasonably configured in every area. Studying the voltage stability in East China Power Grid with the method of characteristic value, the problem buses can be found out, and the rational reactive compensation plan is given. Through calculations on the data of the Grid in the summer of 2004, the problem buses are located, and the relevant reactive compensation capacity is confirmed.

Abstract:A mathematical formulation considering both medium and low voltage optimal reactive power compensations is built for the distribution networks. A solution method based on genetic algorithm is then proposed. The formulation and the solution method can deal with multiple load levels. The capacitor sizes and their number of banks are optimized simultaneously. In order to evaluate configurations of the compensating capacitors, a procedure to simulate the switching on/off of each capacitor is designed. The candidate places for compensation are selected based on sensitivity analysis and the loss reduction index of per unit investment. The searching space of the proposed method is greatly reduced by choosing effective candidate places first. Numerical tests show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Based on the features of simple alternating- current circuits, a concept of reactive power margin is proposed and the node where power system reactive power compensator is installed is determined by the ordering of reactive power margins of nodes. After the confirmation of compensating node optimized reactive power planning is implemented by hybrid evolutionary programming method. Using the proposed method reactive power sources can be rationally configured, reactive power can be balanced locally, and the voltage stability of power network can be improved as well. Simulation results of IEEE 30-bus system show that the reliability and economy of reactive power planning can be realized by the proposed method.

Abstract:This article proposes a hierarchical collaborative reactive power and voltage control method aimed at meeting the internal voltage requirements of a coupled system composed of centralized new energy stations such as wind and solar power and traditional thermal power units, with particular attention paid to the reactive power regulation ability of power units in new energy stations. This method is implemented in two layers: At the transmission layer, the overall reactive power compensation capacity of thermal power units and stations on the transmission lines within the system is determined according to the engineering requirements of different node voltages in the coupled system, the regulation voltages of the high-voltage grid-connected points and the point of common coupling (PCC) of the stations are found, and the actual regulation voltages of the PCCs of the stations are given as commands. At the station layer, based on determining reactive power distribution between power units and continuous reactive power compensation devices within each station, voltage optimization is carried out using the voltage command issued by the transmission layer as a reference. At the same time, consistency coordination between the transmission layer and the station layer is achieved based on the Analytical Target Cascading (ATC) method at different layers. Finally, simulation analysis was conducted on a regional coupled system in Dalian. The results showed that the method proposed in this paper can effectively control the voltage safety requirements of each region and PCC in the coupled system and, to some extent, improve the economic efficiency of system operation.

Abstract:With the increasing penetration of distributed generations (DGs) and complexity of network structure, the compensation in distribution network faces huge challenge. The active power and reactive power supplying by DGs are usually seen as an effective solution in improving voltage quality and reducing energy loss. This paper proposes a new local compensation method based on planning and adaptive control of renewable DGs and capacitor, and the uncertainty and randomness of active and reactive power output of renewable DGs (e.g, wind generation and solar photovoltaic) is considered by establishing related probabilistic models. The performance of the proposed solution is assessed through a comparative study by carrying out a set of simulation experiments for a range of system scenarios. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed local compensation can well adapt to the scalability of distribution network. And with the introduction of adaptive controlling, the optimization of DGs and capacitor is sure to be more effective.

Abstract:As the power system becomes more inertia-less, several issues related to stability and control reliability have emerged, provoking desynchronization phenomena, firstly at the grid-tied inverters and propagating to the entire network. Thus, in order to enhance power system reliability and widen the inverter-based distributed generators withstanding capability under large transients, in this paper, an active power compensation scheme, which is partially untangled from the conventional phase locked loops (PLLs), is proposed. Considering PLLs’ vulnerability due to their high non-linearity, a more reliable physical magnitude is utilized such as the dc-side current, to improve PLLs’ in an indirect manner, by providing adequate response time to follow the abrupt frequency ramps. This is rendered feasible by introducing a series dc-dc converter at the dc-side, which provides the unique ability to mitigate dc current deviations, allowing the regulation of abrupt current trajectories during the loss PLL phase. Active power compensation and dc current retention are achieved simultaneously. The theoretical analysis is verified through extensive simulations, whereas experimental validation is carried out on a scaled-down test bench.

Abstract:The large-scale integration of high-penetration distributed photovoltaic systems into distribution networks can result in significant grid voltage fluctuations within a short period. However, centralized regulation instructions for passive/reactive compensation, by themselves, are insufficient for effectively suppressing these fluctuations. Thus, this study used the grid-forming and grid-following control characteristics of modern power electronic inverters to propose an optimal allocation strategy for reactive power compensation equipment. This strategy aimed to address the insufficient proactive support capacity in the reactive power equipment used to suppress short-time grid voltage fluctuations. After establishing uncertain operation scenarios for the distribution network, we analyzed the respective multi-timescale behavioral characteristics of traditional, grid-forming, and grid-following reactive power compensation devices. The primary and auxiliary objectives were to minimize the investment cost of the special equipment and voltage deviation of the entire network, respectively. To achieve these objectives, we established a collaborative optimal allocation model for grid-forming and grid-following reactive power equipment. A multi-timescale cooperative allocation strategy was proposed to decompose the total reactive power demand curves at the equipment installation nodes into reactive power curves for different response levels and then collaboratively allocate the multiple devices. A comparative analysis of the three schemes in IEEE 33-node and 69-node systems shows that the proposed strategy guarantees lower overall network voltages while reducing the cost by at least 20% compared to those of other schemes.

Abstract:In order to solve the risk of transient voltage instability caused by the increasing proportion of new energy represented by photovoltaic (PV) and dynamic load in the power grid, a dynamic reactive power compensation device configuration method with high-permeability PV is proposed considering transient voltage stability. Firstly, a typical reactive power compensation device configuration is constructed, and evaluation indexes based on transient voltage disturbance and transient voltage peak are proposed. The static index based on complex network characteristics and the dynamic index based on sensitivity theory are used to guide the candidate nodes of dynamic reactive power compensation. Secondly, when reactive power capacity is configured, a differentiated dynamic reactive power compensation optimization model is established, and the multi-objective marine predator algorithm is used to solve the configured capacity, aiming to improve the transient voltage stability at the lowest reactive power investment cost. The final configuration scheme is selected by using the improved entropy weight ideal solution sorting method. Finally, the simulation results of the improved IEEE39-node system verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:More and more power utilities face the voltage stability security, as an important way to improve voltage stability margin. The reactive power compensation planning are received more and more attention. The panning includes two parts, one is to select the optimal compensation location, the other is looking for the optimal capacity. In this paper the optimal compensatory sites are selected by using the left eigenvector of the minimum eigenvalue of the Jacobian and the sensitivity of VAr to reduce the system active power loss, and the optimum compensation capacity are gained by multi-objective immune algorithm (MOIA). In the course of solving, the encoding and the decoding of antibody and the generation of the antibody are studied in detail; at the same time, a new method of calculating the affinity is put forward. This algorithm is tested in IEEE30 bus system and a practical system, the result indicates the proposed algorithm is valid to reduce active power loss and enhance the system voltage stability margin.
A New Control Strategy and Compensation Method on Hybrid System of Combining Apf with Shunt Capacitors

Abstract:Aiming at reactive power and harmonic current in the low-voltage distribution grid, a hybrid comprehensive dynamic reactive power and harmonic current compensator is designed. The shunt capacitors compensate the fundamental reactive power, the shunt APF eliminates the harmonics and the small amounts of load reactive power. But when they work in the same electric utility there exists resonance problem, in order to avoid resonance, the compensation character of hybrid compensation device under traditional strategies for current type nonlinear load were well studied theoretically and quantitatively by establishing mathematic model. A new current control strategy, which not only suppress line-side harmonic current and reactive power but also avoid resonance between shunt capacitors and line-side impedance, was put forwards. And a new compensator method which the APF only compensates 1/2 reactive power of each shunt capacitor was provided, due to the APF could compensate both inductive and capacitive reactive power. It lower the capacity of APF, and reduce the cost. Simulation show that the new control strategy and the new compensation method work stable, fleetly and effectively eliminates most harmonics and compensates majority reactive power.

Abstract:To solve the voltage stability problem of electric vehicles connected to the distribution network in the limit state, a reactive power compensation strategy based on the holomorphic embedding method and electrical distance is proposed. Firstly, the load model of the electric vehicle charging station is constructed, and the limit of the charging power of the electric vehicle connected to a certain bus is obtained. Then, the power flow embedding equation of the power system is constructed by the holomorphic embedding method, and the analytical expression of the voltage rational function is introduced based on the Padé approximation algorithm. The voltage collapse point is solved by the distribution of zeros and poles of the rational function. Then, a method of reactive power and voltage control partition based on electrical distance is proposed. According to the principle of weak regional coupling and strong interval coupling, the power system is divided into several regions by spectral clustering and a k-means clustering algorithm. The order of the voltage stability margin value s is obtained by connecting the limit charging power to each bus of the power system. In this paper, the reactive power compensation strategy proposes to add reactive power compensation devices to the buses with the weakest voltage stability margin in different zones. Finally, compared with other reactive power compensation strategies 1 and 2, the reactive power compensation strategy provided in this paper is increased by 1.626121813 and 1.160494345 times, respectively. The superiority of this method is verified by simulation.

Abstract:A control method of dynamic reactive power compensator is proposed, which coordinates the suppression of low-frequency power oscillation and the voltage stability. The interaction of two control objectives, damping control and voltage control, are analyzed based on a typical power grid with a dynamic reactive power compensator and an optimization algorithm is proposed, which selects the optimal reactive power reference when there is conflict between two control objectives to prevent the grid over-voltage caused by damping control. Simulative results show its effectiveness.

Abstract:The increasing penetration rate of distributed energy brings more complex problems of voltage quality, safety and stability to the distribution network. A single optimal configuration of reactive power or energy storage is difficult to meet the increasingly diversified needs of modern power grids. This paper proposes a configuration strategy combining energy storage and reactive power to meet the needs of new energy distribution networks in terms of active power regulation and reactive power compensation, and to achieve tradeoff optimization in flexibility, voltage quality and economy, so as to adapt to the influence of new energy with different permeability. Firstly, the safety and stability evaluation system of distribution network is established with the target of flexibility demand and reactive power demand. Secondly, considering the coupling of planning layer and operation layer, a two‐layer model of energy‐reactive power optimization is established. After that, the gray wolf algorithm is used to solve the model, which enhances the global space exploration ability and reduces the possibility of falling into the local optimal. Finally, the improved IEEE33 node power distribution system is used for simulation test to verify the rationality and effectiveness of this scheme. The simulation results show that the scheme proposed in this paper can effectively improve the economy, security and stability of the distribution network, and can obtain an optimal configuration scheme with multi‐objective considerations under different new energy penetration rates. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Abstract:The insufficient system strength in the high-proportion new energy access area has gradually emerged as a crucial factor contributing to the transient overvoltage issue. Therefore, it is imperative to propose a reactive power optimization operation mode that takes into consideration both the power grid strength and system operating voltage of the new energy cluster system. Firstly, the relationship between the evaluation index of power grid strength and the performance of system voltage response is elucidated, while analyzing the influence mechanism of various reactive power compensation devices on the power grid strength of new energy cluster systems. Then, a reactive power operation optimization model is proposed to maximize the strength of the system grid and minimize the voltage deviation. To solve this problem, a hybrid approach combining genetic algorithm and CPLEX solver is employed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through a typical simulation example.

Abstract:The power quality of the low voltage distribution network is the key factors of reliability and stability of each device operational. Comparative analysis between a new PQ(power quality) compensation device configuration of load side and typical reactive voltage compensation configuration program is described in this paper. We also calculated the power flow of the entire feeder model and parameters of devices under the load-side configuration program of compensation device and compared with the classical voltage and reactive power regulation configuration program in the classical tradition of voltage and reactive power regulation performance. Theoretical analysis and simulation and experiment results proved the effectiveness of the load-side new device configuration methods and the superiority of application in rural distribution network.

Abstract:This paper proposed a centralization-distribution coordinated control method of reactive power and voltage in distribution network based on double-layer reactive power and voltage control mode.This method decouples the control system of reactive power and voltage into two levels called local distributed compensation of reactive power and centralized optimal control of voltage by the difference between compensation effect and operation cycle of control objects.Then builds the control model and its strategy.It takes an engineering example to verify the method at the end of the article,and the result indicates that active loss got decreased and voltage quality was improved obviously.
