Abstract:The main principle and idea of determining a development goal is proposed. Based on the development tendency of power network at home and abroad, the concept of "Smart Substation" is considered as the higher stage and further objective of technological development of SAS. The key point for "Smart Substation" lies in "intelligence", i.e., to intelligentize different kinds of equipments in the substation. It should be a qualitative leap based on the realized functions of SAS. In smart substation, more attention should be paid on the technologies of switching on the distributed generation and realizing two-way interaction. The safety strategy of information management and storage is specially noticed. Many complicated key technologies need to be studied. Anyway, "Smart Substation" is a comprehensive system engineering. It is necessary to set a long term construction goal and planning.
