Abstract:Large tissue defects in the head and neck region are caused by trauma or resection of advanced carcinoma. Reconstruction of this kind of large defect, including the soft and hard tissues, poses a challenge for oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Both free flaps and pedicled flaps have been widely used to reconstruct the large defects in the head and neck region; for example, double flaps have been used to reconstruct extensive composite mandibular defects, including bone, oral lining, external skin, and soft tissue. 1 Wei F.C.
