Abstract:Numerous electric vehicles (EVs) integrated into a power system will have significant impacts on the system dynamic performance. An appropriate control for the vehicle to grid can assist generation units with automatic generation control (AGC) functions to quickly respond to load fluctuations, as well as enhance the capability of accommodating intermittent renewable generation such as wind power generation. Considering the distributed feature of numerous EVs, it is appropriate to control the EVs by a networked control paradigm. Given this background, a networked control scheme is investigated for EVs' participation in the frequency regulation of the power system, and the negative impacts of the communication delay associated with the networked control on the dynamic performance and even stability of the power system are examined. Firstly, an integrated architecture for the EVs' participation in system frequency regulation is developed, and a closed-loop load frequency control (LFC) block diagram is presented including EVs and a wind power module. Then, an optimal H∞-PID hybrid control method is presented based on the theory of linear matrix inequalities (LMI) to ensure the robustness of the system. Finally, comprehensive case studies of one-area and two-area testing scenarios are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed method.
