Abstract:The shaped charge jet (SCJ) is a devised physical phenomenon that involves high-speed collision of material particles, fluid–structure interaction, dynamic fracture , and complex large deformations of a continuum during the process. In this study, we employed a recently-developed nonlocal fluid dynamics model — the Updated Lagrangian Particle Hydrodynamics (ULPH) method coupled with the Cohesive Peridynamic Modeling (CPDM) method to simulate the formation of SCJ and the penetration process of a targeted metal plate. To address the strong discontinuity features in the jet formation during underwater explosion, we employed an approach of ULPH method based on the Riemann solver. To simulate the SCJ penetration of a metal plate, we adopt a cohesive peridynamics to model the metal plate material with ductility. The accuracy of the proposed method is examined through various test examples. Employing this method, we simulated a complete process of jet formation in both water and air, including its penetration through a liquid-filled metal container. Comparisons between the fracture morphology of the metal plate, obtained using the CPDM method, and experimental data reveal a notable alignment. The obtained numerical simulation results demonstrate good agreement with the experimental data reported in the literature.
