Abstract:The title compound, [Zn(C2H8N2)(3)](SiF6), was synthesized ionothermally using choline chloride-imidazolidone as solvent and template provider. In the crystal structure, the anions and cations are located on special positions of site symmetry 3.2 and show a typical octahedral geometry. The Zn-II ion is coordinated by six N atoms from three ethylenediamine molecules. The crystal structure displays weak hydrogen bonding between [SiF6](2-) anions and the ethylenediamine NH hydrogen atoms.

Abstract:The first silver cluster encapsulating an organic anion-squarate dianion-has been synthesized. Two C4O42- anions arranged in a staggered sandwich type arrangement are confined in the Ag-24 cage. The incorporation of squarate anions into the silver alkynyl system leads to the red shift of absorption of the cluster in comparison to silver squarate.

Abstract:Rise of the silver surfer: A novel solution-stable silver ethynediyl complex [Ag7(C2)(CF3CO2)5(bpy)5]⋅MeCN⋅ 0.5 MeOH (bpy=2,2′-bipyridine) was prepared by reacting Me3SiCCH with [Ag(bpy)CF3CO2] in methanol (see figure). This complex represents the first example of a solution-stable silver ethynediyl cluster, and it is yellow emissive in MeCN/MeOH at 77 K. Abstract:In the title compound, [Ag(C4H5N3)(2)](CF3O3S).0.5H(2)O, there are two similar mononuclear Ag-I complex cations in the asymmetric unit. Each of the Ag atoms is coordinated by two imine N atoms from two 2-aminopyridine ligands and is in a distorted linear geometry. Abstract:Interaction of [Ag(SiPr)]n and CF3CO2Ag in methanol led to isolation of a one-dimensional chain silver cluster {[Ag24(μ-OH2)2(μ-O2CCF3)10(η1-O2CCF3)2(μ4-SiPr)12(OH2)4(HOCH3)6]·(H2O)4}n (1). Reaction of [Ag(SiPr)]n and Et4N·I in dimethylformide gave a tubular cluster [Ag36(μ8-I)6(μ3-SiPr)30]n (2). Treatment of a mixed suspension of [Ag(SiPr)]n/AgI in methanol with HSiPr in the presence of Et3N resulted in formation of a two-dimensional anionic cluster {(HNEt3)4[Ag36(μ2-I)4(μ3-I)8(μ4-I)12(μ3-SiPr)16]}n (3). Structures of three clusters were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction and their solid ultraviolet properties were also investigated. Three polymeric frameworks of high-nuclearity silver(I) thiolate clusters have been isolated employing [Ag(SiPr)]n as a starting material and their structures were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract:The title complex, {[Ag(C2H8N2)](CF3SO3)}(n), is a mononuclear silver( I) compound. The Ag-I atom lies on a mirror plane and is bicoordinated in a linear configuration by two N atoms from two ethane-1,2-diamine ligands, giving zigzag polymeric chains with an [ - Ag - N - C - C - N -](n) backbone running along the b axis. These chains are interconnected by N - H...O hydrogen bonds involving the trifluoromethane-sulfonate anions ( which also lie on mirror planes), forming a three-dimensional network.

Abstract:The structure of the anion in catena-poly[triethylammonium [tungsten-di-mu-sulfido-silver-di-mu-sulfido] N,N'-dimethylformamide solvate], {(C6H16N)[WAgS4].(C3H7NO)}(n), can be viewed as a polymeric chain composed of extended fragments of AgS2W, which are alternately almost perpendicular to each other. Each metal atom displays approximate tetrahedral coordination with four mu-S atoms. Hydrogen-bond interactions exist between the DMF molecule and the [(CH3CH2)(3)NH](+) cation.

Abstract:The spontaneous formation of discrete spherical nanosized molecules is prevalent in nature, but the authentic structural mimicry of such highly symmetric polyhedra from edge sharing of regular polygons has remained elusive. Here we present a novel ball-shaped {(HNEt3)[Ag37S4(SC6H4(t)Bu)24(CF3COO)6(H2O)12]} cluster () that is assembled via a one-pot process from polymeric {(HNEt3)2[Ag10(SC6H4(t)Bu)12]}n and CF3COOAg. Single crystal X-ray analysis confirmed that is a Td symmetric spherical molecule with a [Ag36(SC6H4(t)Bu)24] anion shell enwrapping a AgS4 tetrahedron. The shell topology of belongs to one of 13 Archimedean solids, a truncated tetrahedron with four edge-shared hexagons and trigons, which are supported by a AgS4 Platonic solid in the core. Interestingly, the cluster emits green luminescence centered at 515 nm at room temperature. Our investigations have provided a promising synthetic protocol for a high-nuclearity silver cluster based on underlying geometrical principles.

Abstract:The title complex was prepared from the reaction of PhSeH, Et3N, AgNO3 and Me4NCl in CH3CN/MeOH under a nitrogen atmosphere. The colorless, air-sensitive crystal belongs to the monoclinic system with space group P21/c, a = 1. 709 4(3) nm, b = 1. 562 6(3) nm, c = 2. 123 7(4) nm, β = 110. 83(3)°, V = 5. 301 7(17) nm3, Dc = 1. 940 g/cm3, Z = 4. The final R is 0. 080 9 for 6 938 reflection. The structure of the title complex is built up by Ag4Se6 adamatane-type cluster anion and bulky cation. The structure of the title cluster anion [Ag4(SePh)6]2- can be considered as a tetrahedron of silver atoms inscribed in a distorted octahedron of selenium atoms. The silver atoms are in a distorted trigonal planar coordination by three μ2-selenium atoms.

Each Ag-I ion is three-coordinated by N atoms of three different pyrazine ligands, forming a T-shaped coordination configuration. In the crystal structure, uncoordinated water molecules are linked to trifluoromethanesulfonate anions through intermolecular O - H ... O hydrogen bonds. There are weaker Ag ... O interactions involving the water and sulfonate O atoms.
[Ag20 {S2 P(OR)2 }12 ]: A Superatom Complex with a Chiral Metallic Core and High Potential for Isomerism.

Abstract:The synthesis and structural determination of a silver nanocluster [Ag20 {S2 P(OiPr)2 }12 ] (2), which contains an intrinsic chiral metallic core, is produced by reduction of one silver ion from the eight-electron superatom complex [Ag21 {S2 P(OiPr)2 }12 ](PF6 ) (1) by borohydrides. Single-crystal X-ray analysis displays an Ag20 core of pseudo C3 symmetry comprising a silver-centered Ag13 icosahedron capped by seven silver atoms. Its n-propyl derivative, [Ag20 {S2 P(OnPr)2 }12 ] (3), can also be prepared by the treatment of silver(I) salts and dithiophosphates in a stoichiometric ratio in the presence of excess amount of [BH4 ](-) . Crystal structure analyses reveal that the capping silver-atom positions relative to their icosahedral core are distinctly different in 2 and 3 and generate isomeric, chiral Ag20 cores. Both Ag20 clusters display an emission maximum in the near IR region. DFT calculations are consistent with a description within the superatom model of an 8-electron [Ag13 ](5+) core protected by a [Ag7 {S2 P(OR)2 }12 ](5-) external shell. Two additional structural variations are predicted by DFT, showing the potential for isomerism in such [Ag20 {S2 P(OR)2 }12 ] species.

Abstract:The title compound, [Ag-4(C8H4O4)(2){H2N(CH2)(6)}(3)].2H(2)O, is an Ag-I tetranuclear complex. Four Agt atoms, three hexamethylenediamine molecules, and two terephthalate dianions constitute a chain-like tetranuclear silver(I) complex. The complex lies on a center of symmetry, located at the mid-point of the central C-C bond. The two different kinds of Ag-I atoms are both in a linear environment. One kind of Ag atom is coordinated by two N atoms from different amine ligands, and the other is coordinated by an O atom from a carboxylate group and by a N atom from an amine ligand. Adjacent complexes are joined together by weak Ag...Ag interactions to form ladder-like ribbons, which are further linked by hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional structure.

Abstract:A series of 13 silver(I) double and multiple salts containing 1,3-butadiynediide, C4(2-), were synthesized by dissolving the silver carbide Ag2C4 in a concentrated aqueous solution of one or more of the silver salts AgNO3, AgCF3CO2, AgC2F5CO2, AgF, AgBF4, and AgPF6. The 1,3-butadiynediide anion invariably adopts a mu4,mu4 coordination mode in these compounds, which indicates that the Ag4[cap]C[triple bond]C-C[triple bond]C[cap]Ag4 moiety can be used as a new type of metalloligand supramolecular synthon for the construction of coordination networks. Fine-tuning with various ancillary anionic ligands caused the Ag4 aggregate at each ethynide terminus to adopt a butterfly-shaped, planar, or barblike configuration, within which the silver-ethynide interactions can be classified into three types: sigma, pi, and mixed (sigma,pi). The effect of coexisting nitrile ligands and quaternary ammonium salts on supramolecular assembly with the above synthon was also explored. The hydrolysis of PF6(-) and BF4(-) led to the formation of the quadruple salt Ag2C4 x 4 AgNO3 x AgPF2O2 x Ag3PO4 and a novel (F)2(H2O)18 hydrogen-bonded tape in the triple salt Ag2C4 x 2 AgF x 10 AgC2F5CO2 x CH3CN x 12 H2O, respectively. The largest silver-ethynide cluster aggregate described to date, (C4)3@Ag18, occurs in 3 Ag2C4 x 12 AgC2F5CO2 x 5 [(BnMe3N)C2F5CO2] x 4 H2O (Bn = benzyl).

Abstract:A new mixed-valent silver complex [Ag-II(tmc)][Ag-II(tmc)-(H2O)](2).[Ag-11(I)(C-2)(CF3CO2)(12)(H2O)(4)](2) ( tmc = 1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) was synthesized by adding tmc to a concentrated aqueous solution of silver trifluoroacetate containing dissolved silver acetylide. Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the resulting [Ag-II(tmc)](2+) and [Ag-II(tmc)(H2O)](2+) complex cations induce the self-assembly of a centrosymmetric anionic cluster dimer from the Ag(I), C-2(2-) and CF3CO2- species. A new type of cluster core [C-2@Ag-8]Ag was observed, which takes the form of a bicapped trigonal prism with a pendant silver atom attached to one edge.

Abstract:Three pairs of complementary nitrogen heteroaryl ligands [2,6-(C[triple bond]C)(2)-py and 2-C[triple bond]C-pym; 2,5-(C[triple bond]C)(2)-py and 2-C[triple bond]C-pyz; 3,5-(C[triple bond]C)(2)-py and 5-C[triple bond]C-pym (py = pyridine, pyz = pyrazine, pym = pyrimidine)], wherein a ring nitrogen atom in one is interchanged with a carbon atom bearing an ethynyl substituent in the other, have been used to generate seven silver(I) complexes (1-7), in which silver infinite chains and two-dimensional coordination networks bridged by heteroaryl ethynide ligands were obtained as pre-programmed. The relative positions and bonding preference between the ethynide group and ring nitrogen atom act as controlling factors to produce various structural building units for the formation of multidimensional coordination networks. The fusion of C[triple bond]C[symbol: see text]Ag(n) (n = 3, 4) building units yields multinuclear silver aggregates in 1-6 whose nuclearities range from seven to twelve. The crystal structure of 7 displays a honeycomb layer composed of Ag(4) baskets alternately linked by pyrimidinyl-5-ethynide ligands. In addition, complex 1 features an infinite chain composed of an alternate arrangement of twist-boat water hexamers and bridging silver atoms.
