Abstract:The successful completion of the human genome project, the exponentially increasing volume of biological data and the advancement of information technology pose new challenges for bioinformatics in the post - genome era. In this paper various research disciplines of bioinfor-matics are described, recent RD progresses and current research trends in bioinformatics are discussed and the main research gaps between China and the world are presented. In addition, the author makes a suggestion regarding bioinformatics research, education in China, and outlines a perspective on future development.

Abstract:Modern biotechnology is moving into the phase of large-scale industrialization, further accelerating the development of global bio-economy. As a key pillar of bio-economy, industrial biotechnology supports the development of biomanu-facturing, bio-energy, bio-agriculture, bio-medicine, bio-environmental protection and biological services. This paper reviews the global development patterns of industrial biotechnology, analyzes and demonstrates the progresses and achievements of fundamental research, applied research, technology transfer and industrial development recently achieved in the field of industrial biotechnology in China, and then discusses the development trends and future opportunities of industrial biotechnology in China.

Abstract:This study considers a complex synergy of biotechnologies and advanced medical technologies. The growing convergence of their positions is clearly shown in shaping the transformational era in healthcare. The study exposes developments ranging from precision gene editing to organ bioprinting and the rise of personalized medicine through extensive literature reviews, case study analyses, and expert interviews. Notwithstanding that these advancements promise unprecedented therapeutic and diagnostic capabilities, they also present challenges. Technological barriers in association with profound ethical problems, e.g., the implications of gene editing on future generations and issues of equity in healthcare, emphasize the complexity of this union. The article emphasizes the potential of this integration in the development of proactive health paradigms, stressing the significance of judicious utilization, continued dialogue, and ethical stewardship. The results show the following: although the fusion of biotechnologies and medical technologies holds great promise, it requires a prudent approach to research and application.

Over the past few years, microbiome research has evolved rapidly, with microbiologists gradually shifting their focus from cataloging microorganisms in the human microbiome to understanding their functional roles and how they interact with the host. Here, we present the global trends in microbiome research and summarize the past and current work on microbiome published in Protein & Cell. Abstract:Cell-free synthetic biology aims at the targeted replication, design, and modification of life processes in open systems by breaking free of constraints such as cell membrane barriers and living cell growth. The beginnings of this systematized technology, which took place in the last century, were used to explore the secrets of life. Currently, with its easy integration with other technologies or disciplines, cell-free synthetic biology is developing into a powerful and effective means of understanding, exploiting, and extending the structure and function of natural living systems. Cell-free synthesis technology has been used in basic and applied research such as metabolic prototyping, artificial cell construction, nucleic acid engineering, protein engineering, etc. Worldwide experts shared their views and opinions on the future development of cell-free synthetic biology, as illustrated in this paper. With the integration of current popular technologies such as artificial intelligence and electronics, cell-free synthetic biology will play an increasingly important role in fields such as life exploration, intelligent manufacturing, human health, new energy, and sustainable environmental development.
