Abstract:China is the primary country in the world which synthesizes taurine as a substitute for the natural extractive in order to meet the dramatically increasing demand of taurine. There were some problems in the current synthesizing reaction of taurine. The recycled synthesis approach of taurine was applied in the paper. The reformation depends on the understanding of the novel reaction mechanisms and the finding of defects in production process by an effective analytical method, i.e. HPLC. A sensitive HPLC method for taurine and 2-aminoethylsulfate in process diagnosis of taurine synthesizing reaction was developed. Taurine and 2-aminoethylsulfate were quantitated following pre-column derivatization with 2, 4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB). The mechanisms of the taurine recycled synthesis weren't reported before. It was found that the Esterification/Reduction processes were reversible reactions which existed Equilibrium I and Equilibrium 2, respectively. The process diagnosis by HPLC showed that some new ester had hydrolyzed and the reaction went conversely in Esterification process. The yield of Reduction process reached the maximum when reaction time extended to 16 hours. The results of process diagnosis with HPLC system indicated that the yields of esterification process and reduction process were 93%, 91%. This assay provides a rapid, accurate and reproducible method for instructing us to improve the yield of target molecule, the utilization rate of materials and cut down the cost of production.
