Abstract:A new method for the generation of trifluoromethylcopper ("CuCF3") species from readily available phenyl trifluoromethyl sulfoxide has been developed. The "CuCF3" reagent can be applied in efficient trifluoromethylations of aryl iodides and activated aryl bromides in the absence of additional ligands. Furthermore, the "CuCF3" species can also undergo oxidative cross-coupling with terminal alkynes and arylboronic acids.

Abstract:With the Cu(I) catalyst and the base, alkyl chlorides could react with TMSCF3to realize the trifluoromethylation of alkyl chlorides under irradiation in DMAc. This green and effective method avoids high temperature, poisonous and harmful reaction conditions. The trifluoromethylation of alkyl chlorides can successfully construct unactivated- C(sp3)-CF3bond,which is of great value in organic chemistry.

Abstract:Most of the precedent copper-catalyzed trifluoromethylation reactions of unactivated alkenes concern terminal alkenes, and these processes are terminated in elimination, or nucleophilic addition, or semipinacol rearrangement, or C-H bond functionalization steps. In this study, we develop a trifluoromethylation method for both unactivated terminal and internal alkenes to enable divergent late-stage radical cyclization and achieve high molecular complexity. These cyclizations are well consistent with Baldwin I s rule. Furthermore, a kinetic isotope effect (KIE) study and control reactions were conducted, and a plausible mechanism is proposed.

Abstract:A photoinduced copper-catalyzed strategy for the monofluoroalkylationof alkynes with readily available monofluoroalkyl triflates was developed.It provides a new protocol to access valuable propargyl fluoride compoundsvia C-C bond formation by avoiding the use of highly toxicfluorination reagents. This reaction proceeded under mild conditionsto afford propargyl monofluorides in moderate to high yields. Preliminarymechanistic studies reveal that a ligand-matched alkynyl copper complexmight be the key photoactive substance.

Abstract:The selective trifluoromethylation of aryl- and vinylboronic acids proceeds smoothly with CF3SO2Na (Langlois reagent) in the presence of copper catalysts and t-BuOOH. Therefore, the method relies both on transition metal catalysis and selective radical reactions. Advantageously, the protocol can be performed at room temperature under an air atmosphere and avoids the issue of poor regioselectivity.

Abstract:An unprecedented application of trifluoromethanesulfonyl hydrazides as trifluoromethylating agents has been demonstrated in two vicinal difunctionalization reactions of terminal alkenes: the copper-catalyzed three-component vicinal chlorotrifluoromethylation of arylakenes with TfNHNHBoc and NaCl and the tandem trifluoromethylation/cyclization of N-arylacrylamides with TfNHNHBoc. The reactions proceeded in the presence of inexpensive oxidants under mild conditions and provided a range of structurally diverse trifluoromethyl-containing compounds with high regioselectivity.

Abstract:The incorporation of fluorine-containing moieties into organic compounds is of great importance in pharmaceutical, agricultural, and materials science. Within these organofluorides, the trifluoromethyl group is one of the most important motifs. In recent years, the trifluoromethyl group has attracted more and more attention, and many trifluoromethylated compounds have been found to possess special activities. However, until now, only a few methods have been developed to achieve this efficiently using Umemoto's reagents. This review highlights recent developments in the direct introduction of a trifluoromethyl group into organic compounds with Umemoto's reagents. Seven approaches to the trifluoromethylation of organic compounds are summarized: (i) trifluoromethylation of arenes, (ii) trifluoromethylation of alkenes, (iii) trifluoromethylation of terminal alkynes, (iv) deoxygenative trifluoromethylation of benzylic xanthates, (v) trifluoromethylation of ketoesters, (vi) trifluoromethylation of aryl boronic acids and aromatic amines (synthesis of ArCF3) and (vii) trifluoromethylation of biphenyl isocyanide derivatives.

Abstract:A copper(I)-catalyzed, regioselective C-H α-trifluoromethylation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds using Togni's reagent was developed. Diverse substrates, including enones as well as α,β-unsaturated esters, thioesters, and amides, stereospecifically afforded the corresponding (E)-α-trifluoromethylated products in moderate to high yields.
