Abstract:By a simple coprecipitation process,a series of Ag3VO4 samples with crystalline particles from 100 nm to 5 μm were successfully synthesized at temperatures of 0-80 ℃.The addition of polyethyleneglycol in the synthetic system resulted in the formation of nanosized particles with 50-100 nm.The photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation showed that the Ag3VO4 samples,particularly the nanosized Ag3VO4 sample,were much more active than the commercial photocatalyst titania P25.In addition,after 4 recycles,there was no significant decrease in the photocatalytic activity of Ag3VO4 samples,indicating that the Ag3VO4 was a stable photocatalyst for degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation.

Abstract:Visible light driven pollutant degradation by photocatalyst was one of most efficient and economical strategies for environmental application. The focus and challenge was to fabricate efficient artificial photocatalysts. In this work, hybrid Ag2CO3/AgVO3 nanowires were first reported to be successfully synthesized by the facile ion exchange method. The as-prepared Ag2CO3/AgVO3 nanowires showed highly improved visible light photo catalytic activity for RhB degradation, and the optimized Ag2CO3/AgVO3-40% photocatalyst exhibited the best photocatalytic activity, which is 3.6 times of pure Ag2CO3 and 13.3 times of pure AgVO3 catalysts, mainly due to the formation of Ag nanoparticles and Ag2CO3/AgVO3 heterojunction for charge separation. The degradation of RhB solution was mainly attributed to direct hole oxidation, which was also confirmed by the active species trapping experiments. Finally, the possible visible light photocatalytic mechanism of Ag/Ag2CO3/AgVO3 composites for RhB degradation was proposed.

Abstract:Using AgNO3 and NH4VO3 as raw materials,β-AgVO3 nanowires,mesowires,and microrods were fabricated by a simple and facile hydrothermal process under different pH values.The structure and morphologies of the as-prepared β-AgVO3 one-dimensional materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM).UV-visible absorption measurements show that the as-prepared β-AgVO3 nanowires,mesowires,and microrods present strong absorption in a wide range from UV to visible light and the band gap was 2.21 eV,2.17 eV,and 2.12 eV,respectively.
A Novel 2D Graphene Oxide Modified Α-Agvo3 Nanorods: Design, Fabrication, and Enhanced Visible-Light Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:Silver vanadates are promising visible-light-responded photocatalysts with suitable bandgap for solar absorption. However, the easy recombination of photogenerated carriers limits their performance. To overcome this obstacle, a novel 2D graphene oxide (GO) modified α-AgVO 3 nanorods (GO/α-AgVO 3 ) photocatalyst was designed herein to improve the separation of photocarriers. The GO/α-AgVO 3 was fabricated through a facile in-situ coprecipitation method at room temperature. It was found that the as-prepared 0.5 wt% GO/α-AgVO 3 exhibited the most excellent performance for rhodamine B (RhB) decomposition, with an apparent reaction rate constant 18 times higher than that of pure α-AgVO 3 under visible-light irradiation. In light of the first-principles calculations and the hetero junction analysis, the mechanism underpinned the enhanced photocatalytic performance was proposed. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was ascribed to the appropriate bandgap of α-AgVO 3 nanorods for visible-light response and efficient separation of photocarriers through GO nanosheets. This work demonstrates the feasibility of overcoming the easy recombination of photogenerated carriers and provides a valuable GO/α-AgVO 3 photocatalyst for pollutant degradation.
Facile In-Suit Synthesis of Ag/Agvo3 One-Dimensional Hybrid Nanoribbons with Enhanced Performance of Plasmonic Visible-Light Photocatalysis

Abstract:The novel one-dimension Ag/AgVO3 plasmonic photocatalysts were synthesized via in situ reduction of AgVO3 by NaBH4 at room temperature. The morphologies, optical properties and electronic structures of the synthesized Ag/AgVO3 plasmonic photocatalysts were systematically characterized using a combination of theoretical calculations and experimental techniques. The photocatalytic activities of Ag/AgVO3 photocatalysts were evaluated using photocatalytic degradation of basic fuchsin (BF) dye. The results showed that the photocatalytic efficiency of Ag/AgVO3 was better than that of AgVO3. Ag/AgVO3 demonstrated a high photocatalytic activity with 93.6% of BF decomposed within 90 min. Such enhanced photocatalytic performance could be attributed to the relatively high conductivity and electron-storing capacity of Ag nanoparticles coated on AgVO3 surfaces. These Ag nanoparticles facilitate charge transfer between AgVO3 and Ag nanoparticles, and induce the localized surface plasmon resonance (SPR) that increases electric field and absorption of visible light. The results of the FDTD simulation confirmed that the SPR and the electric field enhancement were caused by the Ag nanoparticles. The theoretical calculation based on DFT indicates that Ag formed could narrow the bandgap of AgVO3 due to the fact that the Ag 5s orbital by association with Ag nanoparticles moves down the CB after hybridization. Meanwhile, the hybridization of O 2p and Ag 4d orbits of Ag/AgVO3 is weak, which is beneficial for valence band electrons to excite into the conduction band. The combined experimental results and characterizations of Ag/AgVO3 suggest that h(+) and O-center dot(2)- are the main reactive species for degradation of BF in the visible light-catalyzed oxidation. Abstract:Monoclinic P-silver vanadate (beta-AgVO3) nanoribbons with widths of 300-600 nm, thicknesses of ca. 40 nm, and lengths of 200-300 mu m can be easily synthesized in high yield directly from a hydrothermal reaction between V2O5 and AgNO3 in a solution containing a small amount of pyridine. The results demonstrated that the formation of single-crystal AgVO3 nanoribbons is strongly dependent on the reaction temperature, especially, the presence of pyridine and its dosage. A possible growth mechanism of single-crystal AgVO3 nanoribbons has been proposed. Exposure of the nanoribbons to electron beam will easily result in the formation of Ag nanoparticles embedded in situ on the backbone of the nanoribbons, making the nanoribbons potentially useful as efficient catalyst support. The electrical conducitivity of an individual single-crystal beta-AgVO3 nanoribbon exhibits nonlinear and symmetric current/voltage (I-V) characteristics for bias voltages in the range of -6 to 6 V.

Abstract:This paper describes for the first time a routine hydrothermal approach to the large-scale synthesis of one-dimensional (1-D) monoclinic beta-AgVO3 nanowires and ribbon-like nanowires. The whole process was actualized without the aid of any templates or surfactants. Some factors that affect the shape of 1-D beta-AgVO3 nanomaterials were briefly discussed.

Abstract:Using Zn(NO3 )2 ·6H2 O,AgNO3 and NaVO3 as the raw materials,the visible-light photocata-lyst Ag-Zn3(VO4 )2 was synthesized by hydrothermal process. The as-prepared photocatalysts were charac-terized by SEM,TEM and UV-Vis DRS. The influence of Ag + / Zn2 + molar ratios,hydrothermal synthetic temperatures and time on catalytic activity and surface morphology of Ag-Zn3(VO4 )2 photocatalysts was investigated by using methyl orange dye wastewater as probe pollutant. The results showed that Ag-Zn3(VO4 )2 photocatalyst possessed the best photocatalytic activity under the preparation condition of Ag + / Zn2 + molar ratio 0. 15,hydrothermal synthetic temperature 160 ℃ and hydrothermal synthetic time 16 h. After visible light illumination for 5 h,methyl orange degradation rate over Ag-Zn3(VO4 )2 photocat-alyst was 99. 18% ,which was 43. 99% higher than that over Zn3(VO4 )2 catalyst prepared under the con-dition of pH = 10 and 160 ℃ hydrothermal reaction for 16 h. Ag-Zn3(VO4 )2 prepared by hydrothermal method exhibited excellent catalytic activity under visible light irradiation.
Large Scale Preparation of Beta-Agvo3 Nanowires Using A Novel Sonochemical Route

Abstract:A large number of beta-AgVO3 nanowires with diameter of 30-60 nm, and length of 1.5-3 microm have been successfully synthesized by a simple and facile low-temperature sonochemical route. The morphologies and structures of the nanowires were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (SEM), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). Cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge experiments were applied to characterize the electrochemical properties of the nanowires as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. In the initial discharge and charge process, the as-prepared beta-AgVO3 nanowires showed the initial charge and discharge capacities of 69 and 102 (mAh)/g, respectively. It is anticipated that the beta-AgVO3 nanostructures are promising cathode candidates in the application of primary lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:Monoclinic structure silver vanadate Ag3VO4 was prepared by hydrothermal process. The effects of the ratio of silver to vanadium in starting material, hydrothermal temperature on surface morphologies, structure and photoactivity of Ag3VO4 for the decolorization azodye acid red B under visible irradiation were investigated. The Ag3VO4 prepared in the excess vanadium at 160°C for 48h exhibited highest visible-light-driven activity. Excess vanadium in the preparation increased the crystallinity and suppressed the formation of grain boundaries, while the formation of Ag0 on the surface of the catalyst promoting the electron–hole separation and interfacial charge transfer, resulting in an increase in the photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the activity of the Ag3VO4 was increased by 11 times when NiO was loaded, which also shows high activities for the decomposition of phenol and aniline. It is possible due to the formation of a short-circuited microphotoelectrochemical cell enhancing the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs.

Abstract:A visible-light-driven photocatalyst of nanosized vanadate garnet AgCa2Ni2V3O12 was prepared by a modified Pechini method. The nanoparticles were characterized with the measurements such as X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and structural refinements, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and UV–visible (UV–Vis) absorption spectrum. The sample has an efficient absorption in the UV–Vis light region with a narrow band-gap energy of 2.16 eV and an indirect allowed electronic transition. Besides, the photocatalysis of AgCa2Ni2V3O12 nanoparticles was evaluated by photo-degradation of methylene blue under visible-light irradiation, which shows excellent photocatalytic activity. The effective photocatalytic activity was discussed on the base of the garnet crystal structure such as the activated optical centers of Ni–O octahedron and V–O tetrahedral, highly distorted Ag–O dodecahedra, and long V–V distance in the lattices.

Abstract:Visible-light-driven dumbbell-like BiVO 4 and Ag/BiVO 4 photocatalysts has been successfully synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method at 180 °C for 24 h. The as-synthesized photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy. The results obtained showed that ethylenediamine, citric acid, pH and hydrothermal reaction temperature have pronounced effects on the morphology of BiVO 4 . Transmission electron microscopy observation shows that the Ag nanoparticles are homogenously dispersed on the surface of the BiVO 4 nanorods. Photocatalytic activities of the dumbbell-like BiVO 4 and Ag-loaded BiVO 4 photocatalysts were also evaluated by using methylene blue as a representative dye indicator under visible light irradiation. It is found that the photocatalytic performance of the as-synthesized BiVO 4 is obviously improved with the incorporation of the Ag nanoparticles. Mechanism for the enhancement of the photocatalytic activity of the Ag/BiVO 4 photocatalyst is also discussed.

Abstract:Nanowires of beta-Ag0.33V2O5 phase with high aspect ratio have been prepared by hydrothermal method at 180°C for 16h with equal moles of AgNO3 and NH4VO3. Acetic acid was used as an acidifying agent and pH value was between 1.8 and 2.3. X-ray diffraction pattern indicates that the sample is monoclinic phase akin to AgV6O15. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy shows that the nanowires have widths in the range of 70nm, thicknesses of 10nm and lengths of approximately several mm. X-ray photoelectron spectrum measurements further confirm the component of AgV6O15. TEM and HRTEM were further used to characterize the products. The obtained sample might find possible application as an electrode material in lithium ion batteries.

Abstract:A series of Ag loaded Ag/BiVO4 composite nanofibers were synthesized through electrospinning and heat treatment process. The phase structure, morphology and photocatalytic performance were tested. The result shows that Ag loading can significantly enhance the photocatalytic activity. RhB can be completely degraded in 20 min under visible light irradiation of 10% Ag loading. The heterostructure promotes the charge separation as well as the lifetime of the photo generated electron and holes, resulting in the enhancement of the photocatalytic activity.
Preparation and Photocatalytic Properties of Titania Nanowires Loaded with Ag Nanoparticles

Abstract:In this paper,TiO2 nanowires were fabricated by a facile hydrothermal method.The Ag nanoparticles were loaded on TiO2 nanowires by reduction of Ag(NH3)+2 in the presence of glucose solution.The as-synthesized Ag/TiO2 nanowires were characterized by TEM,HRTEM,XPS and UV-Vis spectra.The results show that the Ag nanoparticles were well dispersed on the external surface of the TiO2 nanowires.UV-visible absorption measurements show that the as-synthesized Ag/TiO2 nanowires present strong absorption in visible light.The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 and Ag/TiO2 nanowires were characterized by degradation of the acid red 3R solution.The results indicate that the Ag/TiO2 nanowire shows excellent photocatalytic activity.

Abstract:Ag2V4O11 nanotubes were synthesized by means of a facile surfactant-assisted hydrothermal process and developed as a novel visible-light-sensitive photocatalyst for 2-propanol (IPA) decomposition. The Ag2V4O11 nanotubes were single-crystalline and showed a uniform size with a diameter of about 10 nm in width and micrometer-sized length. The material can absorb a wide range of light irradiation up to 600 nm. The band gap of Ag2V4O11 was determined to be 2.0 eV according to the diffuse reflectance spectrum of the sample. The electronic structures and band edge positions of Ag2V4O11 were theoretically calculated on the basis of density functional theory and the constituent atom's Mulliken electronegativity, respectively. It was revealed that the valence band consisted of Ag 4d and O 2p orbitals, while the conduction band was constructed by V 3d and Ag 5s5p orbitals. Compared with commercial N-TiO2, the Ag2V4O11 nanotube catalyst exhibited much higher photocatalytic activity for IPA degradation under visible-light irradiation. It was possibly ascribed to the narrow band gap, highly mobile charge carriers, and tubular structure.
Synthesis of AG@AgCl Core–Shell Structure Nanowires and Its Photocatalytic Oxidation of Arsenic (III) Under Visible Light

Abstract:Ag@AgCl core–shell nanowires were synthesized by oxidation of Ag nanowires with moderate FeCl3, which exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity for As(III) oxidation under visible light. It was proved that the photocatalytic oxidation efficiency was significantly dependent on the mole ratio of Ag:AgCl. The oxidation rate of As(III) over Ag@AgCl core–shell nanowires first increased with the decrease of Ag0 percentage, up until the optimized synthesis mole ratio of Ag nanowires:FeCl3 was 2.32:2.20, with 0.023 mg L−1 min−1 As(III) oxidation rate; subsequently, the oxidation rate dropped with the further decrease of Ag0 percentage. Effects of the pH, ionic strength, and concentration of humic acid on Ag@AgCl photocatalytic ability were also studied. Trapping experiments using radical scavengers confirmed that h+ and ·O2− acted as the main active species during the visible-light-driven photocatalytic process for As(III) oxidation. The recycling experiments validated that Ag@AgCl core–shell nanowires were a kind of efficient and stable photocatalyst for As(III) oxidation under visible-light irradiation.

Hydrothermal Preparation and Photocatalytic Properties of Visible Light Driven AgBr/BiVO4 Nanocomposite

Abstract:AgBr/BiVO(4)photocatalysts with heterojunction structures were prepared using a hydrothermal method. To analyse phase composition and microstructure, samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Photoluminescence measurements were used to characterise the recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The phase structure, chemical state and optical properties of heterojunctions were analysed by UV-visible diffuse-reflectance spectrometry. AgBr/BiVO(4)showed high efficiency for the degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. Hydrothermal temperature and pH values exhibited significant influence on band gap energy and the recombination rate of electron-hole pairs of AgBr/BiVO4, reflective of photocatalytic properties. Results show that at 160 degrees C and pH of 7 AgBr/BiVO(4)achieved the best photocatalytic activity, for which the visible light-absorption range of the AgBr/BiVO(4)heterojunction was significantly enhanced. Photodegradation catalysis of RhB was most efficiently achieved at a level of approximately 56.72% for a reaction time of 140 min.

Abstract:Using P25 as raw materials,titania nanowires were fabricated by a facile hydrothermal route.The Ag loaded titania nanowires were obtained by the reduction of Ag(NH3)2+ ions in the presence of glucose solution.The characterizations of the as-synthesized Ag/TiO2 nanowires were performed by TEM,XPS and UV-Vis spectra.The results showed that the Ag nanoparticles were well dispersed on the external surface of the titania wires.UV-visible absorption measurements show that the as-synthesized Ag/TiO2 nanowires present strong absorption in visible light.
