Abstract:Traditional thermal prediction models of hub motor usually ignore the air thermophysical properties and focuses only on the effect of temperature variations on conductor conductivity and the performance of permanent magnets, leading inevitably to its lower prediction accuracy. In this regard, this paper proposes a revised equivalent thermal conductivity for the winding in both radial and axial directions by considering the coupled heat transfer effects between the air and the slot winding. Meanwhile, a novel magnetic-thermal bidirectional coupling model of hub motor is established, which incorporates the influence of temperature variations on wind friction loss. Compared with the traditional models, the proposed model agrees better with experimental results, and the corresponding prediction accuracy is increased by 30 %, thereby demonstrating its superiority. Furthermore, a detailed analysis is performed to investigate the effects of input current and output speed on both the temperature rise and the electromagnetic performance of the hub motor. Results reveal that as input current increases, the peak offset of motor back electromotive force decreases gradually, while the rate of decrease in average output torque accelerates with higher output speeds. It is also demonstrated that the time required for temperature to stabilize is significantly affected by the input current, while being relatively insensitive to the output speed. Moreover, as input current grows, the stabilization time of temperature rise in hub motor approximately follows the logarithmic growth pattern, whereas the stabilization time remains steady as the output speed rises.
