Abstract:This paper mainly devotes to study on a class of preferential growth systems[1].Considering there are m elements added to the system at each time step,the preferential growth model to an general situation was proposed.The s elements can either join in the new group(with probability 1-p) or dependently join in an already existing group with a probability proportional to the size thereof,the other s elements join in the new group.Based on the Markov chain theory,the author gets the rigorous proof for the existence of the steady-state degree distribution and obtains an exact solution,then scale-free property of the model is proved.

Abstract:Based on the concept and techniques of first-passage probability in Markov chain theory, this letter provides a rigorous proof for the existence of the steady-state degree distribution of the scale-free network generated by the Barabasi-Albert (BA) model, and mathematically re-derives the exact analytic formulas of the distribution. The approach developed here is quite general, applicable to many other scale-free types of complex networks.

Abstract:In this paper,a scale-free network model with stochastic growth is proposed.The evolution rules of this model are still the growth and preferential attachment in the BA model, but the number of edges added in the network in every step is a random variable with a binomial distribution.By the rate-equation approach,we prove the degree distribution of the network has a power-law tail,and this model evolves a scale-free network.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the degree distribution of a general random graph with multiple edges and loops from the perspective of probability. Based on the first-passage probability of Markov chains, we give a new and rigorous proof to the existence of the network degree distribution and obtain the precise expression of the degree distribution. The analytical results are in good agreement with numerical simulations.

Abstract:In this paper, we abstract a kind of stochastic processes from evolving processes of growing networks, this process is called growing network Markov chains. Thus the existence and the formulas of degree distribution are transformed to the corresponding problems of growing network Markov chains. First we investigate the growing network Markov chains, and obtain the condition in which the steady degree distribution exists and get its exact formulas. Then we apply it to various growing networks. With this method, we get a rigorous, exact and unified solution of the steady degree distribution for growing networks.

Abstract:We introduce a family of one-dimensional geometric growth models, constructed iteratively by locally optimizing the tradeoffs between two competing metrics, and show that this family is equivalent to a family of preferential attachment random graph models with upper cutoffs. This is the first explanation of how preferential attachment can arise from a more basic underlying mechanism of local competition. We rigorously determine the degree distribution for the family of random graph models, showing that it obeys a power law up to a finite threshold and decays exponentially above this threshold. We also rigorously analyze a generalized version of our graph process, with two natural parameters, one corresponding to the cutoff and the other a ``fertility'' parameter. We prove that the general model has a power-law degree distribution up to a cutoff, and establish monotonicity of the power as a function of the two parameters. Limiting cases of the general model include the standard preferential attachment model without cutoff and the uniform attachment model.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate a growing random graph process, which allows loops and multiple edges. Based on the first-passage probability of Markov chains, we provide a rigorous and straightforward proof to the existence of the degree distribution of a random graph process, and finally show the precise expression of degree distribution. Numerical simulations reveal that our theoretical derivations are consistent with simulation values.

Abstract:In this paper we propose a simple evolving network with link additions as well as removals. The preferential attachment of link additions is similar to BA model's, while the removal rule is newly added. From the perspective of Markov chain, we give the exact solution of the degree distribution and show that whether the network is scale-free or not depends on the parameter m, and the degree exponent varying in (3, 5] is also depend on m if scale-free.

Abstract:We study three special cases of simple generalized collaboration networks, namely the preferential attachment, random attachment and mixed attachment networks. Based on Markov chain theory, we provide a rigorous proof for the existence of the steady-state degree distribution of the network generated by this model and obtain its corresponding exact formula. In particular, for mixed attachment, if it has preferential attachment, degree distribution of the network obeys power-law distribution, and it is a scale-free network.

Abstract:A great variety of complex networks can be well represented as random graphs with some constraints: for instance, a provided degree distribution, a smaller diameter, and a higher clustering coefficient. Among them, the degree distribution has attracted considerable attention from various science communities in the last few decades. In this paper, we focus mainly on a family of random graphs modeling complex networks that have an exponential degree distribution; i.e., P(k)∼ exp(αk), where k is the degree of a vertex, P(k) is a probability for choosing randomly a vertex with degree equal to k, and α is a constant. To do so, we first introduce two types of operations: type-A operation and type-B operation. By both the helpful operations, we propose an available algorithm A for a seminal model to construct exactly solvable random graphs, which are able to be extended to a graph space S(p,pc,t) with probability parameters p and pc satisfying p+pc=1. Based on the graph space S(p,pc,t), we discuss several topological structure properties of interest on each member N(p,pc,t) itself and find model N(p,pc,t) to exhibit the small-world property and assortative mixing. In addition, we also report a fact that in some cases, two arbitrarily chosen members might have completely different other topological properties, such as the total number of spanning trees, although they share a degree distribution in common. Extensive experimental simulations are in strong agreement with our analytical results.

Abstract:Vertex degree distribution is an important parameter to evaluate the local property of vertices and connectivity between the vertex and other vertices in the network. An extended growth evolving model was proposed by adding new vertices or new edges using nonlinear preferential attachment rule at each time step. Moreover, the vertex degree distribution expression via the probability methods was calculated, and it was found that some existing network model is one of special cases of the model, the corresponding vertex degree distribution can also be obtained by the vertex degree distribution expression of the model. The expression to obtain the corresponding vertex degree distribution was also used and the numerical simulations for network models of two different vertex weighted functions was designed. Experiments indi-cate that the numerical simulations are coincide with our theoretical results well.

Abstract:This paper proposes a Markov chain method to predict the growth dynamics of the individual nodes in scale-free networks, and uses this to calculate numerically the degree distribution. We first find that the degree evolution of a node in the BA model is a nonhomogeneous Markov chain. An efficient algorithm to calculate the degree distribution is developed by the theory of Markov chains. The numerical results for the BA model are consistent with those of the analytical approach. A directed network with the logarithmic growth is introduced. The algorithm is applied to calculate the degree distribution for the model. The numerical results show that the system self-organizes into a scale-free network.

Abstract:For the preferential attachment model of random networks, Bollobás et al. proved that when the number n of vertices is large enough, the proportion P(d) of vertices with degree d obeys a power law P(d)∝d−3 for all d≤n1/15 . They asked that how far the result can be extended to degrees d>n1/15 . We give an answer by extending the range to all d≤Cn1/2−μ , for any arbitrarily small constant μ>0 and arbitrarily large constant C>0 . The answer is near optimal, since the maximum degree is O(n1/2) .

Abstract:Most real-world complex systems have multiple subsystems and layers of connectivity. All such systems can be described and represented in terms of multiplex network model, where the edges at each layer stand for the interactions of a different type between the same set of vertices. To better characterize and simulate such multiplex systems, we propose a new two layers network growth model based on nonlinear preferential attachment rule. Moreover, we obtain the joint degree distribution expression of the model via the rate equation approach at the steady state, and discuss the joint degree distribution and conditional average degree for the models of two different vertex weighted function, respectively. It was found that some existing multiplex network model is one of special cases of the model, and the corresponding joint degree distribution and the conditional average degree can also be obtained by the joint degree distribution expression of the model. Also, we observe that the conditional average degree expression is identical for the models of two different vertex weighted function. To verify our theoretical results, we perform Monte Carlo simulations for the models of two different vertex weighted function. Experiments indicate that our theoretical results are in accordance with the Monte Carlo simulation results well.
