Abstract:A sensitive hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor based on C-60-nafion/pyrocatechol violet (PCV) composite film modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was reported. C-60-nafion/PCV film was fabricated by a simple casting and adsorption procedure. The composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FTIR spectra and cyclic voltammetry. SEM images of the composite film indicated C-60 molecules are dispersed into much smaller granules throughout the nafion matrix. FTIR spectra of C-60-nafion/PCV composite revealed the interaction between C-60 and PCV. The cyclic voltammogram of C-60-nafion/PCV film modified on GCE showed one pair of reversible redox waves with a formal potential of 0.28 V, which was attributed to reduction and oxidation of quinine-hydroquinone functionalities in PCV molecule. The coverage concentration of PCV on the surface of the electrode can be approximately calculated to be 3.0 x 10(-10) mol cm(-2). Application of such film modified electrode as an amperometric sensor for H2O2 was conducted. The calibration plot for H2O2 determination was linear at 2.9 x 10(-6) to 2.6 x 10(-4) M with a correlation coefficient of 0.999 and a detection limit of 1.5 x 10(-6) M (S/N = 3).
