Abstract:Efficient oil-water separation is a crucial step in achieving oil-water purification and reducing groundwater pollution. This study utilized laboratory experiments, finite element simulations, and theoretical analysis to investigate the movement and deformation characteristics of oil droplets under the combined action of centrifugal and gravitational fields. The influence mechanism of continuous phase velocity, viscosity, and oil droplet initial velocity on the movement of oil droplets in a swirling field was analyzed. The findings reveal that as the continuous phase viscosity increases from 1, 3, and7 mPa·s, the axial and radial velocities of oil droplets exhibit more pronounced fluctuations. When the superficial velocity of the continuous phase increases from 0.63 to 1.57 m/s, regardless of the initial velocity of the oil droplets, they ultimately approach the superficial velocity of the continuous phase. The movement speed of oil droplets primarily depends on the velocity and viscosity of the continuous phase, and is independent of the incident velocity. Among these factors, the superficial velocity of the continuous phase is the decisive factor influencing the deformation and oil droplets velocity. Driven by the continuous phase, larger diameter oil droplets are mainly distributed in the outer region of the axis, while smaller diameter droplets are distributed near the axis. This differentiated particle size distribution provides a theoretical basis for the structural design of oil-water separation equipment. This study provides technical support for oil-water separation and purification technologies and offers a theoretical basis for the design of oil-water separation equipment.
