Abstract:Tianjin is a typical area in China with rapid industrialization. The rapid development of the industrial economy has promoted a significant increase in industrial energy consumption. The energy consumption of Tianjin's industrial economy is over 67% of the city's total energy consumption. This paper analyzes the time series of CO2 emissions brought about by the energy consumption of Tianjin's industrial sector and explores the main factors affecting CO2 emissions through the log-mean Divisia index decomposition method. Results show the following: (1) Over the past ten years, Tianjin carbon emissions grew by only 10.70%, far lower than the level of industrial growth achieved, and the carbon emission intensity of industry showed an overall downward trend, indicating that the Tianjin industrial energy saving effect is more significant; and (2) The constant expansion of the economy is the leading cause of increasing carbon emission. Changes in carbon emission brought about by economic-scale factors accounted for an average of 57.38% of the total carbon emissions in the city Industry and energy structures showed less impact on industrial carbon emissions. Improvements in energy utilization efficiency are the most important contributor to effective industrial energy saving in Tianjin. © Sila Science.
