Abstract:Lubricant exits in ejector in vapor compression systems during practical operation. However, it is often ignored in simulation of ejectors in refrigeration systems. To investigate effects of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) based lubricant on heterogeneous flow and non-equilibrium heat and mass transfer in a CO2 ejector, a heterogeneous mixture model was developed for a three-phase ejector containing vapor and liquid phases of CO2, PAG lubricant that is partially miscible with CO2. Variations of thermophysical properties of lubricant with the solubility of CO2 in lubricant were considered. Numerical results show that performances of an ejector vary with lubricant concentration, geometries (diameter and length of mixing section, diffuser angle and motive nozzle exit position) and operating conditions. The mechanisms of these ejector performance variations were explored, such as the formation and disappearance of backflow vortices in premixing chamber and diffuser. Empirical correlations between entrainment ratio and lubricant concentration were developed for a CO2/lubricant ejector with certain geometries under motive nozzle inlet in supercritical and subcritical regimes. Lubricant can result in higher entrainment ratios under certain geometries, and affect the optimal design results of a CO2 ejector. This study is helpful for the optimal design of a three-phase CO2/lubricant ejector in practice.
