Abstract:In this short review we compare different ways to construct solutions of the periodic Toda lattice. We give two recipes that follow from the projection method and compare them with the algebra-geometric construction of Krichever.

Abstract:In 1967, Japanese physicist Morikazu Toda published the seminal papers exhibiting soliton solutions to a chain of particles with nonlinear interactions between nearest neighbors. In the decades that followed, Toda's system of particles has been generalized in different directions, each with its own analytic, geometric, and topological characteristics that sets it apart from the others. These are known collectively as the Toda lattice. This survey describes and compares several versions of the finite non-periodic Toda lattice from the perspective of their geometry and topology.

Quasi-periodic Solutions for Modified Toda Lattice Equation

Abstract:Based on a spectral problem and the Lenard operator pairs, we derive in this paper a modified Toda lattice hierarchy. The modified Toda lattice equation is first decomposed into systems of integrable ordinary differential equations. A hyper-elliptic Riemann surface and Abel–Jacobi coordinates are then introduced to linearize the associated flow, from which some quasi-periodic solutions of the modified Toda lattice can be explicitly constructed in terms of Riemann theta functions by using Jacobi inversion technique.

Abstract:Recently, we proved the Griffiths conjecture on the boundedness of the period maps, and then used it to prove global Torelli theorem on the Torelli space under certain natural conditions. This paper serves as a review of these results and an introduction to the main ideas behind the proofs.

Abstract:Based on the Riemann theta function, the Hirota bilinear method is extended to directly construct a kind of explicit quasi-periodic solution of the Toda lattice equation. The asymptotic property of the quasi-periodic solution is analyzed in detail. It is of interest to see that the well-known soliton solution can be obtained as a limit of the quasi-periodic solution.

Abstract:This is a short review of the construction of quasi-periodic (algebraic-geometrical) solutions to hierarchies of nonlinear integrable equations. As is well known, the solutions are expressed through Riemann's theta-functions associated with algebraic curves. It is explained how solutions from this class can be treated within the framework of the approach to the integrable hierarchies developed by the Kyoto school. Three representative examples are considered in detail: the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy, the 2D Toda lattice hierarchy and the B-version of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy.

Abstract:We describe a relation between the periodic one-dimensional Toda lattice and the quantum cohomology of the periodic flag manifold (an infinite-dimensional Kaehler manifold). This generalizes a result of Givental and Kim relating the open Toda lattice and the quantum cohomology of the finite-dimensional flag manifold. We derive a simple and explicit "differential operator formula" for the necessary quantum products, which applies both to the finite-dimensional and to the infinite-dimensional situations.

Abstract:The duality between a class of the Davey-Stewartson type coupled systems and a class of two-dimensional Toda type lattices is discussed. A new coupled system related to the recently found lattice is presented. A method for eliminating nonlocalities in coupled systems by virtue of special finite reductions of the lattices is suggested. An original algorithm for constructing explicit solutions of the coupled systems based on the finite reduction of the corresponding lattice is proposed. Some new solutions for coupled systems related to the Volterra lattice are presented as illustrative examples.

Abstract:The duality between a class of the Davey-Stewartson type coupled systems and a class of two-dimensional Toda type lattices is discussed. For the recently found integrable lattice the hierarchy of symmetries is described. Second and third order symmetries are presented in explicit form. Corresponding coupled systems are given. An original method for constructing exact solutions to coupled systems is suggested based on the Darboux integrable reductions of the dressing chains. Some new solutions for coupled systems related to the Volterra lattice are presented as illustrative examples.

Abstract:We have derived a non-abelian analog for the two-dimensional discrete Toda lattice which possesses solutions in terms of quasideterminants and admits Lax pairs of different forms. Its connection with non-abelian analogs for several well-known (1+1) and one-dimensional lattices is discussed. In particular, we consider a non-commutative analog of the scheme: discrete Toda equations → Somos- N sequences → discrete Painlevé equations.

Abstract:By introducing bilinear operators of trigonometric type, we propose several novel integrable variants of the famous Toda lattice, two of which can be regarded as integrable discretizations of the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation—a universal model describing weakly nonlinear waves in media with dispersion of velocity. We also demonstrate that two one-dimensional reductions of these variants can approximate the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation well. It turns out that these equations admit meaningful solutions including solitons, breathers, lumps and rogue waves, which are expressed in terms of explicit and closed forms. In particular, it seems to be the first time that rogue wave solutions have been obtained for Toda-type equations. Furthermore, g -periodic wave solutions are also produced in terms of Riemann theta function. An approximation solution of the three-periodic wave is successfully carried out by using a deep neural network. The introduction of trigonometric-type bilinear operators is also efficient in generating new variants together with rich properties for some other integrable equations.

Connecting topological strings and spectral theory via non-autonomous Toda equations

Abstract:We consider the Topological String/Spectral theory duality on toric Calabi-Yau threefolds obtained from the resolution of the cone over the $Y^{N,0}$ singularity. Assuming Kyiv formula, we demonstrate this duality in a special regime thanks to an underlying connection between spectral determinants of quantum mirror curves and the non-autonomous (q)-Toda system. We further exploit this link to connect small and large time expansions in Toda equations. In particular we provide an explicit expression for their tau functions at large time in terms of a strong coupling version of irregular $W_N$ conformal blocks at $c=N-1$. These are related to a special class of multi-cut matrix models which describe the strong coupling regime of four dimensional, $\mathcal{N}=2$ $SU(N)$ super Yang-Mills.

Abstract:Using construction of logarithm of a difference operator, we present the Lax pair formalism for certain extension of the continuous version of the classical Toda lattice hierarchy, provide a well defined notion of tau function for its solutions, and give an explicit formulation of the relationship between the CP1 topological sigma model and the extended Toda hierarchy. We also establish an equivalence of the latter with certain extension of the nonlinear Schrodinger hierarchy.

Abstract:It is shown that the polynuclear growth model is a completely integrable Markov process in the sense that its transition probabilities are given by Fredholm determinants of kernels produced by a scattering transform based on the invariant measures modulo the absolute height, continuous time simple random walks. From the linear evolution of the kernels, it is shown that the $n$-point distributions are determinants of $n\times n$ matrices evolving according to the two dimensional non-Abelian Toda lattice.

Abstract:We review recent results on the connection between Hermite-Padé approximation problem, multiple orthogonal polynomials, and multidimensional Toda equations in continuous and discrete time. In order to motivate interest in the subject we first present a pedagogical introduction to the classical, by now, relation between the Padé approximation problem, orthogonal polynomials, and the Toda lattice equations. We describe also briefly generalization of the connection to the interpolation problems and to the non-commutative algebra level.

Abstract:The noncommutative analogues of the nonisospectral Toda and Lotka-Volterra lattices are proposed and studied by performing nonisopectral deformations on the matrix orthogonal polynomials and matrix symmetric orthogonal polynomials without specific weight functions, respectively. Under stationary reductions, matrix discrete Painlevé I and matrix asymmetric discrete Painlevé I equations are derived separately not only from the noncommutative nonisospectral lattices themselves, but also from their Lax pairs. The rationality of the stationary reduction has been justified in the sense that quasideterminant solutions are provided for the corresponding matrix discrete Painlevé equations.

Abstract:We construct a new and very explicit linearization of the discrete periodic Toda flow by using Mumford$\text{'}$s algebraic description of the Jacobian of a hyperelliptic curve, where the addition law is described in terms of the Gauß composition law of quadratic forms. Further, we explain how the periodic box-ball flow fits nicely into this picture as well.
