Abstract:Reprint of the first publication of Mr. Isaac Newton, Mathematics Professor in the University of Cambridge, containing his New Theory about Light and Colors. Light is declared to be not Similar or Homogeneal, but consisting of difform rays, some of which are more refrangible than others. Colors are affirmed to be not Qualifications of Light, derived from Refractions of natural Bodies, as was generally believed, but Original and Connate properties, which in diverse rays are diverse. Several Observations and Experiments are alleged to prove the said Theory. Originally published February 19, 1672 in Philos. Trans. R. Soc. London, No. 80, 3075-3087.
