Abstract:In Jiaxing plain river network,the source water has been severely polluted by ammonia and organic pollutants,and the removal efficiency of ammonia nitrogen decreases under low temperatures in winter,in addition,in urban and rural integrated water supply system the water quality at rural deadends fails to meet the Standards for Drinking Water Quality (GB 5749-2006).Research was carried out on integrated technologies to improve source water quality,to enhance water treatment process adaptability and efficiency,and to perfect water quality in water distribution system.Three demonstration projects were developed at the source water wetland,the water treatment plant,and the water distribution systems at Guanjinggang.The results demonstrated that the drinking water quality of pipe network in demonstration area had reached GB 5749-2006.Therefore,the drinking water safety was ensured in the river network region where water resources were seriously polluted.

Abstract:Drinking water safety plays an important role in the developing of society and residents' health.As a result,it has become one of the most important social and environmental issues to ensure the safety of drinking water.It was analyzed that the "three-stage pollution",namely water source pollution,backward water treatment process and the pollution of water supply system in the process of water conveyance from water source to user.According to the "three-stage pollution",the problems of drinking water safety and the improved situation in China were reviewed.In addition,in order to provide a reference for supplying drinking water safely,the usage of a water supply scheme in China which was called as direct drinking water was discussed.

Abstract:Water quality evaluation is very important for the design and operation of water treatment and the security of water supply. As the urbanization and population increasing, three types of surface water are simultaneously applied for drinking water sources in Huzhou. Based on the continuous monitoring and data analysis from 2011 to 2015, water quality evaluation was carried out by nine water quality indexes, in order to investigate the pollution characteristics and temporal variation trends of drinking water sources. The results showed that these three types of surface water generally conformed to the water quality standards of drinking water sources, and the water quality decreased in order of reservoir, lake and river. The water quality of reservoir was good and stable, while the main problem of Tai Lake was the exceeding standards of total nitrogen and total phosphorus which might lead to the algae growth. In the rivers, the indexes exceeding the national standards were total nitrogen, iron and manganese, and water quality indexes including chemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen and total nitrogen exhibited seasonal variation. More attention should be paid to water eutrophication and seasonal accidental risk in Huzhou.

Abstract:By reviewing the development of safety evaluation norms and standards in domestic and foreign township drinking water sources and related areas of academic research achievements this paper systematically analyzes the protection status of China's township drinking water sources,pointed out some problems systematically what exist in the current research,and make a new interpretation to security connotation of the township drinking water sources and raised the safety evaluation of the township drinking water sources should include the five aspects:water safety evaluation,water quality and safety evaluation,ecological security evaluation,engineering safety evaluation and emergency response capabilities evaluation that will broaden our thinking for the future study of our township drinking water source protection and pollution prevention and control technology system.

Abstract:Drinking water safety is related to national economy and people's livelihood. China has always attached great importance to guaranteeing drinking water safety. Since China's reform and opening up in 1978, water environmental pollution has brought great challenges to drinking water safety in the Yangtze River Delta region owing to active economic development and high population density in the region. After over ten years of development, the overall level for guaranteeing drinking water safety in the Yangtze River Delta region has significantly improved, effectively promoting the coordinated and sustainable development of the region. However, as people's requirements for water quality and health gradually increase, work for guaranteeing drinking water safety in the megalopolis agglomeration of Yangtze River Delta faces various challenges. In this article, we analyze the water quality characteristics of typical water sources in the Yangtze River Delta region, and summarize the achievements in urban drinking water safety assurance of the region. Suggestions are proposed from two dimensions (i.e., management and technology) and three aspects (i.e., water source, water plant, and secondary water supply), including improving the ecological compensation mechanism, collaboratively revising water quality standards, developing green and efficient purification technologies, and innovating the water supply management model. These strategies can provide a reference for assuring drinking water safety and promoting regional integration in the Yangtze River Delta and other key regions.

Abstract:Under the guidance of sustainable development concept,and especially since the release of "Rio Declaration",China has made many explorations and practices in rational development,efficient utilization,effective protection and integrated management of water resources,thus established a new approach to sustainable water development with a focus on ensuring drinking water safety of rural residents and cattle,promoting the construction of a water-saving society system,protecting and restoring water eco-system,enhancing the capacity of urban-rural water supply system and emphasizing public participation.With only 6% of the world's fresh water resources,China succeeds in supporting 22% of the world's population and sustaining 10% of economic growth rate.Under the combined effects of natural water resources conditions,socio-economic scale and development stage as well as global climate change,China is confronted with such prominent problems as a conflict between water supply and demand,water environmental pollution,water ecological degradation and frequent occurrence of extreme and accidental events.The Chinese Government has attached great importance to solving the above problems by scientifically formulating the strategy of sustainable water resources utilization,improving water resources infrastructure system,and reforming the public policy and governing system for water resources management in order to conscientiously guarantee national water security and back up sustainable socio-economic development by sustained utilization of water resources.To this end,we have undertaken major projects as follows: comprehensively building a society featuring water-conservation and pollution-prevention;implementing the most stringent water resources management system;strengthening water resources and eco-environmental protection;construct national smart grid project system;establishing water resources risk management system and intensify scientific and technological support for water resources,etc.

Abstract:The safety of water quality in China's urban water supply has always been the focus of attention from all walks of life, and the study and analysis of strengthening the safety of water quality in the urban water supply are to ensure that the quality of life in China's cities and towns is improved as well as the safety of people's lives and health. At present, many cities and towns in China have water quality problems, bringing a great impact on people's lives. Therefore, this paper studies the safety of water quality in towns and cities firstly analyses the main factors affecting the safety of drinking water quality, and then proposes some corresponding measures to solve the current situation. It is hoped that the study of this paper can bring some degree of help to China's urban water supply management.

Abstract:Ensuring the safety of rural drinking water is a basic component of poverty alleviation in China. Studying the strategy for ensuring drinking water safety in areas that were lifted out of poverty is important for consolidating poverty alleviation achievements and promoting rural revitalization in China. In this article, we study the current situation and problems of rural drinking water in poverty alleviation areas, analyze the causes of the problems, and propose strategic objectives and pathways from the aspects of engineering, policy, and mechanism. To guarantee the safety supply of rural drinking water in poverty alleviation areas, we suggest that the drinking water safety policies in these areas should remain stable and constant, the sanitary standards of drinking water in rural areas should be optimized to meet those in urban areas, and a long-term policy focusing on water price should be established for rural water supply.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the peripheral water pipe network quality and health status of rural water plants of zhejiang,to provide a assurance for the dirkning water qulailty in rural areas,and prevent from the poisoning and water-borne diseases that are resulted from unquality of the peripheral water pipe network.Methods: Select the representative monitoring points to have a questionnaire investigation about the peripheral water pipe network of villages,and the drinking water samples from different approachs of rural water plants and diferent water types of the peripheral water pipe network were collected in wet and dry season,then the water quality was analyzed and assessed according to the related standards and regulation.Results: In 403 towns of monitoring points,about 81.44% of rural population drink the water from rural water plants,the pass rate of composite indexs in wet and dry season,which are count by different approachs of rural water plants and diferent water types of the peripheral water pipe network,are 93.58% and 94.03% respectively.Conclusion: The pass rate of composite indexs in the peripheral water pipe network of rural water plants is relatively low,which is related to imperfect of process and irregular disinfection.

Abstract:The goals of the safe and optimized operation of water distribution system include: ① achieving the requirements of consumers for water quality,water quantity and water pressure;② the control of pipeline leakage and bursts;③ the minimization of operation cost.Based on the characteristics of water distribution system and the managing level of water enterprises in China,the technological strategies for safe and optimized operation of water distribution system and pollution control are discussed in terms of water quality assurance,digitalized management system establishment,district metering area(DMA) management,detection and control of pipeline leakage,prevention of pipeline bursts,and optimized maintenance and replacement of pipelines.All these provide reference for safe and optimized operation of water distribution system and pollution control in China.
China's drinking water sanitation from 2007 to 2018: A systematic review

Abstract:<p>Regular monitoring of drinking water in China is carried out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at all levels and some articles were published for the public to understand the status of drinking water. However, these published articles were limited to small areas and reported almost exclusively in Chinese. In order to give the public a comprehensive understanding of the situation of drinking water sanitation in China and provide specific directions for ensuring drinking water safety in the future, we review the sanitation status of drinking water in different regions of China from 2007 to 2018, the changes over time and the factors affecting drinking water quality by means of systematic review for the first time. Our results show that the quality of drinking water in China has shown an upward trend from 2007 to 2018. The qualification rate of urban drinking water (85.51%) was much higher than that of rural drinking water (51.12%), and the dry season (56.93%) was higher than the wet season (50.54%), and the terminal tap water (59.88%) was higher than the outlet water of waterworks (55.87%). In addition, the regions with low qualification rate of water quality in China were mainly distributed in several southern provinces, such as Yunnan, Guizhou, Hainan, etc. What's more, the qualified rate of the three microbiological indicators was the lowest, all below 85%. All the results indicate that the sanitation status of drinking water in China is unsatisfactory, and the biggest risk affecting water safety is microbial pollution. The central and local governments should work hard to improve people's drinking water quality and continue to strengthen the treatment and supervision of drinking water, especially in rural areas and undeveloped southern areas.</p>

Abstract:A good water ecological environment is crucial for the sustainable development and ecological civilization of China. However, various problems remain for China's water ecological environment, including eutrophication, pollution of drinking water sources, contamination of groundwater and coastal waters, emerging pollutants, and shortage of ecological water. In this study, we analyzed the overall situation of the water ecological environment in China, pinpointed the major challenges, and proposed the strategic thinking and several basic principles. These principles focus on improving the water ecological environment and comprehensively consider water quality improvement, water ecological protection, and water environmental risk prevention and control. Three major scientific and technological projects were proposed pertaining to (1) coordinated governance and overall restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasses, and sand in key basins, (2) overall improvement of water environment and water ecology in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Development Area, and (3) assurance of drinking water safety in the new era. Furthermore, we proposed the following four countermeasures: (1) revising the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water to strengthen its leading role in the construction of water ecological civilization in China; (2) evaluating the spatial and temporal differences of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in China's lakes and implementing differentiated nutrients standards; (3) assessing the current status of water ecology in China and promoting water ecology monitoring and assessment; and (4) establishing an intelligent supervision platform for drinking water safety based on big data fusion.
EVALUATION ON THE RURAL DRINKING WATER QUALITY IN A CENTRALIZED SUPPLIED AREA OF CHINA

Abstract:As a result of the rapid development of China's economy, many surface and groundwater have become polluted. Assuring high quality drinking water, especially for the rural areas has recently received much attention. In this study, the drinking water quality in one centralized water supply network was evaluated by analyzing 28 pollutant indices at 35 sampling points. It was determined that the concentrations of most organoleptic and physical indices were stable in all the water samples. The large variation of turbidity in the tap water was likely a result of the sloughing off of corrosion scales as well as bio-films formed within the distribution system. Trace metal elements also showed high removal efficiencies as a result of purification and pipe scale adsorption. The average concentrations of Fe and Mn in the tap water were 39.8 and 2.4 mu g/L respectively, much lower than that in the untreated groundwater. Compared with organoleptic/physical indices and trace metal elements, the removal ratios of nitrate and microorganisms in purification were relatively low. Total bacteria counts could not meet the standard requirements in nearly all the tap water samples tested. To ensure future tap water quality, enhanced management in addition to upgrading the treatment process with a disinfection unit is suggested.

Abstract:CONSPECTUS: Access to safe drinking water is among the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals. As the largest developing country, China has confronted large challenges to providing safe and sufficient drinking water to its population of 1.4 billion under the conditions of limited water sources and ubiquitous water contamination. This Account outlines these challenges as well as the practical solutions implemented by Chinese water professionals. We first provide a general introduction of the water supply in China. Next, we describe the main challenges of water source shortages and source water contamination. The practical solutions developed by Chinese water professionals are the core part of this Account, to which we have devoted ourselves to and contributed in some issues and cases. The water supply in China is a binary system that reflects the gap between urban and rural communities. Both urban and rural water supplies have been subject to water source shortages and contamination. Water shortages are mainly solved by long-distance water transportation projects. Urban water utilities generally pay attention to organic matter, ammonia, algae, and chemical spills in source water while also focusing on micro-organisms and disinfection byproducts in tap water. Microorganisms are a widespread concern for rural water supplies, whereas arsenic, fluoride, and ammonia are an endemic concern in some rural communities. Investment in updating of treatment processes significantly benefits urban water supplies, and advanced treatment of ozonation and biologically activated carbon processes are now commonly used to ensure that strict drinking water quality standards are met. However, this is not the case for rural water supplies, where expensive advanced treatment is not affordable. Thus, improving rural water supplies requires approaches such as searching for sources with better water quality, using automated ultrafiltration instruments, or connecting to urban water supply distribution systems. For rural areas with high concentrations of arsenic or fluoride in source water, specific adsorbents are a practical way to help farmers. Similar challenges will be encountered elsewhere in the world; therefore, the practical solutions applied in China will be useful to other countries in different stages of development.

Abstract:With the thorough development of the thirty thousand projects in Hubei province,the safe drinking water problem in the remote area which is away from big rivers becomes a key problem which should be thought and solved.In order to insure the mountain farmers who were dependent on "Heaven" in the past to drink safe clean water,combined with the construction instance of Changmaosi village,Caihua town,Wufeng county in Hubei province,this paper not only puts forward the reasonable engineering construction plan,but also puts forward practical ideas about how to establish the management mechanism to realize keep water with water,in order not to increase the farmers' financial burden.
