Abstract:Due to the introduction of uncontrollable transitions in the supervisory control of discrete event systems modeled by controlled Petri nets, a disjunction of several linear inequalities is needed to express the admissible markings. In this paper, we propose a two level hierarchical control synthesis method to deal with this kind of OR logic constraints. In the method, the constraint function plays an important role not only in the construction of the low level monitor but also in the determination of the control policy. The obtained supervisor is maximally permissive and the online computation has the complexity of polynomial times. An example is used to illustrate the proposed synthesis algorithm.

Abstract:In view of large industrial processes,an alterable horizon predictive control algorithm based on reduced state-space decomposition is proposed.Operated in rolling-horizon optimization form,the size of optimization problem is decreased through the decomposition of interior and exterior states in each rolling horizon,on that basis,the coordinated optimization problem between multi-time-scale sub-systems is skillfully solved by using alterable horizon method.Simulation experiment is carried out using the actual production data from a certain iron works,and comparisons with three existing predictive control algorithms are made.Results show that this method deals extraordinarily well with performance index and real-time computation ability,and has the best overal performance.

And a well-poed two-level algorithm for hierarchical control has been presented with itS advantageS of simplicity,convenience for computation and high ap proximation accuracy.An example has been given to demonstrate the validity of the proPosed method.

Abstract:Optimal control for distributed parameter systems is much more difficulty than for lumped parameter systems, and various approximation techniques have been widely studied, but the greatest problem of the approximation methods is the accuracy and the computation time. In this paper, the piecewise multiple Chebyshev polynomials which were defined by the authors have been studied in depth, and a new approach-- PMCP approximation technique has been proposed to solve the optimal control for distributed parameter systems. By using PMCP approximation technique, the distributed parameter systems have been converted into N interactive lumped linear sub-systems which usually have higher dimensions, while we take the idea of hierarchical control to design the optimal controllers. In order to simplify the design and to avoid solving the continuous-time Riccati equations in the development of the first level optimal control strategies, the PMCP approximation method has again been adopted, and a well-posed algorithm has been obtained. The simulation results are satisfactory.

Abstract:For control and optimization of chemical processes, the traditional hierarchical control structure (HCS), where an optimizer in the real-time optimization (RTO) layer updates the set-points of controlled variables (CVs) in the lower control layer, has been well-acknowledged and widely adopted in industrial applications. However, a common drawback of such an HCS is that the speed for a plant to converge to an optimal operation is slow because the optimizer has to wait for the process to settle from one steady-state to another to get an accurate disturbance estimation before making any changes to the set-points. In this Article, a novel HCS based on the concepts of controlled variable adaptation (CVA) and nonoptirnality detection is proposed. In the CVA strategy, the CVs are determined and adapted on the basis of a so-called just-in-time regression algorithm to approximate the necessary conditions of optimality (NCO), which makes the self-optimizing performance adaptive to operating condition changes. For nonoptimality detection, we apply the theory of statistical process monitoring to monitor the optimality of process operation, where the nonoptimal statuses are treated as a special kind of process faults. The detection results are used as a prerequisite to activate the CVA. With these techniques, the proposed CVA-based HCS exhibits the following distinct features: (1) The regulatory control layer has an ability to approach a near optimal operation automatically through self-optimizing control, thus accomplishing the majority of the optimization task, and the speed of the process converging to an optimal status is fast. (2) The RTO layer extends the self-optimizing operation range via adapting CVs in the lower control layer, rather than their set-points as in a traditional HCS. (3) The activation of CVA is neither regular nor periodic, but only evoked when it is necessary. Two case studies are provided to demonstrate the basic characteristics and advantages of the proposed CVA-based HCS.

Abstract:Hierarchical distributed model predictive control (HDMPC) is a promising control framework for industrial processes. With the development of efficient solvers for large-scale nonlinear programming (NLP), the implementation of hierarchical distributed control with nonlinear models becomes achievable. However, there is a lack of systematic method that handles the online computational delay in HDMPC which may lead to deterioration of performance or stability. To speed up online computation, an NLP sensitivity-based HDMPC algorithm is proposed in this paper. The implementation strategy is divided into background and online stages. All the local MPC controllers solve their sub-optimization problems iteratively in background based on the predicted future state, and a sensitivity update step is performed online to correct the predicted optimal inputs. The system-wide sensitivity equation is formulated in the upper control level by combining the optimality information of local controllers. The optimality and stability analysis for the proposed method is given. Three case studies are presented to demonstrate the controller performance. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:With the continuous expansion of the power system and access of renewable energy, AGC and AVC play more and more important roles. However, due to the interaction between AGV and AVC control target and controlled objects, it is easy to cause the problem of repeated adjustment. At the same time, it is difficult to achieve the goal of multi-objective optimal control. In this paper, based on the hierarchical control method, power system's Optimal Coordinated Control System (OCCS) of AGC and AVC is established. In the time dimension, the active power and reactive power are decomposed and coordinated, and the design scheme of each control layer is given. In the upper layer, the active and reactive power of the power plant are optimized and coordinated, and the multi-objective reference setting value is given. In the lower part of the OCCS, the control strategy of the advanced AGC is proposed to realize the comprehensive power consumption reduction, and advanced AGC is coordinated with reactive power control. At the same time, the idea of cross iteration is used to check and modify the control commands of AGC and AVC, and the comprehensive coordination control instructions are obtained, which can minimize the negative effects of the two kinds of control commands.

In order to control this kind of systems, we first construct a simple abstract system, then derive the stabilizer of the original system from that of the abstraction. Finally, a simulation example of a 4 dimensional affine control system is included to illustrate the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract:Negative effects exists between the control commands and control targets of AGC and AVC system, which result in a series of problems such as system security and overshoot. This paper models a coordinated automatic control system of AGC and AVC based on hierarchical control, adopting decomposition-coordination method between active power and reactive power based on time dimension, the design scheme of each control layer is also given. The upper controller optimize active and reactive power coordinately, and then provides the reference setting for comprehensive optimal economic and security. The lower controller improve the control strategy of AGC in advance thus actualized comprehensive energy saving, study of the AGC effects on voltage control is carried out and realize the comprehensive optimal of economic and security by means of suitable voltage control command. Besides, the coordination process checks and corrects the commands in an iterative way, and then get the final comprehensive coordinated commands, which can minimize the negative effects thus maintains the system operating within the multi-objective suboptimal area. Simulations in computer prove the effectiveness of the proposed control system and the strategies.

Abstract:In this article, a distributed time‐varying optimization problem for multirobot systems with collision avoidance is studied. A hierarchical control framework is employed to simplify the complex problem into two subproblems in two layers. One is the network layer where a novel distributed time‐varying finite‐time optimal control protocol as a signal generator is proposed for each robot. The signal generator ignores the model constraint and uncertainty. The other is the real‐time layer, which mainly contains a sampling module and a robust nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) module. The former samples the optimal signal from the signal generator as a series of sampling tracking points with proper distance to improve tracking performance, and the latter searches for the optimal control protocol for the robot system to track these sampling tracking points in sequence with the model constraint and uncertainty. Furthermore, considering the collision between each robot, a give‐way strategy is designed that the robot with a low priority has to stop to wait for the other with a high priority to move first. And a primary‐secondary judgment technology determines the priorities of robots adaptively according to the current state of the robots. If the way forward of the moving robot is blocked by the stopping one, an auxiliary point is introduced as a temporary transfer station to avoid collision further. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by a simulation example.

Abstract:Recently, the hierarchical control method based on a hierarchical architecture has been developed, which is mainly aimed at large-scale complex systems. In order to analyze and control this class of systems, we at first, construct an appropri-ate and low-dimensional abstract system, then synthesize and lift the control law from the obtained abstraction of the original system by the notion of interface function. This paper studies the stable control problem of a class of high-dimensional linear systems and obtains the results by employing the hierarchical control method. Finally, a simulation example is given to illus-trate the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract:In this paper a new control method for large scale industrial systems, hierarchical predictive control, is presented . The principle and algorithm of the predictive control are firstly described. Then the decomposition-coordination technique is utilized to develop a hierarchical predictive control algorithm. The convergence of the algorithm and the rule of choosing optimal step length are studied in detail to make the algorithm usable. Finally, the efficiency of the new scheme is demonstrated by simulation of a boiler system with 4 inputs and 4 outputs.
