Abstract:Reflection on and criticism of enlightenment reason is an indispensable part of the Enlightenment itself. It is an important counterbalance to the Enlightenment myth and the crisis of modernity, as well as being a major theoretical subject for political philosophy in the age of globalization. This reflection and criticism must be grasped and examined from both the external perspective of socio-historical requirements and the internal perspective of intellectual history. While giving full credit to the achievements of Enlightenment reason and modernity, we need to review their inherent conflicts, reveal the resultant social crisis, and sort out, reflect on and reference postmodernism's denunciation of Enlightenment reason and the crisis of modernity in order to provide a more far-reaching solution to these issues. Marx turned the critique of Enlightenment reason and modernity into a critical reconstruction of the logic of capital and the capitalist mode of production, seeing the resolution of these evils as lying in transcendence of capitalist private ownership. In this way, he brought the critique of Enlightenment reason to a climax and showed modern society a way to more advanced development.

Abstract:Marx' and Engels' lifelong though unfinished efforts lie in their understanding and critique of capitalism, which resulted in such classics as Das Kapital, an exemplar for analyzing capitalism via its particular mode of production. Five phases can be distinguished in the historical development of this exemplar: 1) Before 1844: Criticizing Prussian feudalism in light of bourgeois revolution and making the burgerliche Gesellschaft the departure point for study; 2) From 1844 to the spring of 1845: Probing into political economics and revealing the capitalism, through the theory of entfremdete Arbeit, as an inhuman, disintegrated and industry-dominating society; 3) From the spring of 1845 to 1849: Inquiring scientifically the material production, viewing capitalist society from a historical perspective, and considering the class struggle as the means of realizing communism; 4) From 1850 to the end of 1860s: Restudying economics, starting with Das Kapital, making clear, through analyzing the surplus value, the overall control of social life by the capital and establishing a classic exemplar for the understanding of capitalism; 5) developing the theories of changing capitalism and that of anthropological studies in Marx' and Engels' late years.

Abstract:With an overall presentation of the academic achievements under the title of “Marx is back: the impor-tance of Marxist theory and Research for the critical communication studies today” in 2012, the British online journal, Triple C, asserts that the era of new Marxism has come. This paper introduces the theme of the Marxist communication studies, and then discusses Terry Eagleton’s comments and refutes about the biases against Marx and Marxism existing in mass media. It also analyzes Terry Eagleton’s achievements in the research from the fol-lowing aspects such as Marx and media, commodity and capital accumulation, Marx and the critique of ideology, Marx and the alternative media, the socialist media and social conflicts, etc. Given that the western media scholars have a strong interest to the study of Marx's works, worried about the capitalist media and capitalist society and longing for another possibility of the social development, it is of practical significance for us to fortify our convic-tion of“two inevitabilities”and further explore the guidance of Marxist theory to China’s communication studies.

Abstract:Many domestic journalists think that after establishing the theory of people's newspapers,Marx went through two transformations,that is,transformation from idealism to materialism and transformation from democracy to communism.In fact,the view about Marx's two transformations was based on historical facts but on a protracted theoretical misunderstanding.The fact is that Marx had accepted simple materialism as early as his school days.He propagandized democracy In Rhine Daily to meet with demand of German revolution and meanwhile he approved of and propagandized communism.Therefore,we cannot belittle Marx's theory of people's newspapers from a left-leaning view.

Abstract:It should be a misunderstanding that many people take the‘cultural criticism'of Marx and Engels equal to‘historical idealism'.In 19th century,anthropology flourished and culture means civilization,which refers to the overall social development in the specific time and space.This is the idiomatic usage in the works of Marx and Engels.Both of them have many reasons to explain their dissatisfaction with cultural history.For example,Marx opposed them because they just consider stories like Robinson as the reaction of modern civilization,nostalgia and tendency of romanticism.However,all this is not a negation of‘cultural history'but a combination of ideas and reality,especially cultural history.Confirming the specific production relations and always regulating and improving the reality of these relations will eventually show the cultural production of ideology.This is the enlightenment from Marx and Engels' ‘cultural criticism'.

Abstract:In the context of a Critique of the Political Economy of the Media, this article exemplifies the fundamental effects of the globally dominant capitalist private ownership of media companies on media development, journalism, and the public sphere. Selected works by Marx and Engels as well as works from developments of the approaches of the “New Reading of Marx” and “Western Marxism” form the theoretical-methodological basis. Characteristic of capitalism is a mutually conditioning relationship between the socio-economic base and the political-legal superstructure, which makes the ”abolition” of private property and the associated relations of domination and power almost impossible. Therefore, possibilities of a de-capitalisation and de-commodification of journalism and the public sphere based on non-capitalist forms of ownership will be discussed. A special chance of realisation is seen for academic publications without capitalist publishing houses that is feasible because knowledge production takes place at public universities. Finally, a change of strategy is suggested that takes us out of the bourgeois-liberal trap of criticism and hope towards the development of media and social theories as well as humans’ active participation in the organisation of an independent content-based media praxis, which can be conducive to a transformation towards a socialist societal formation.

Abstract:Karl Marx’s philosophy includes three dimensions of critique. The first is the critique of metaphysics, which is also the major premise on the basis of which Marx turns his philosophical viewpoint to the analysis of social life and its cultural logic. The second is the capital logic and totality, the core of Marx’s philosophy, according to which Marx exposes the totality and contradictions inherent in the capital logic. The third is the theory of social critique that is the realistic end of his philosophy.

Abstract:Marx's writing of Critique of Hegel's Philosophy is accompanied with the excerpting of Kreuznach Notebooks concentrating on political theory and history,which divide Critique into two different part—the latter half has surpassed the first half in theoretical level.In other words,due to Notebooks' historical investigation,the latter half of Critique has contained the embryonic form of "Tripartite-Social-Formation-Theory",which lays its emphasis on the significance of individual freedom and has not gained its complete development and clear expounding until Outline of Critique of Political Economy.

Abstract:Lucia Pradella, Globalization and the Critique of Political Economy: New Insights from Marx's Writings (London: Routledge, 2015), 218 pages, $160, hardback. In 2012, the second section of the new historical-critical edition of Marx and Engels's complete writings, the Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe (MEGA), was finally completed, and all the editions and manuscripts of Capital became available in order to trace Marx's own theoretical development and Engels's editorial works. The remaining three sections are, however, only halfway completed, and it will likely take at least another twenty years before all the work is finished.… What is more, a great number of them are Marx's journal fragments and excerpts, which have not yet been published in any language. In this sense, the distinct importance of continuing the MEGA project is the further publication of these unknown notebooks, which promise to reveal Marx's unfinished undertaking, the critique of political economy.… It is therefore no coincidence that a new trend has emerged in the last few years of scholars studying Marx's notebooks. Works like Kevin Anderson's Marx at the Margins , Heather Brown's Marx on Gender , and my own article on Liebig in Monthly Review have shown the underestimated theoretical dimensions of anti-colonialism, gender, and ecology in Marx's thought. Abstract:Marxism as an ideology and mode of practice continues to exist in the twenty first century. It is not as orthodox and dogmatic as it used to be in the mid twentieth century. It has absorbed and reformulated many contemporary critical trends like post-Marxism and has reappeared in different theoretical garbs. Marxist literary criticism is by no means a bygone critical mode; it is very much in practice and has taken on different forms of enquiry like post-colonialism and cultural studies. Given the all-pervasive nature and presence of Marxist literary criticism in academic and research world and its usefulness in exploring hidden aspects of texts, it is significant to know its basics and recent developments in its pursuits. As long as people are still thinking dialectically, they are still disagreeing with each other, and as long as people are still disagreeing with philosophers, Marxist literary criticism will be important. Marxism, in particular, had several modifications. It is important to note that someone who really believes in and supports Marxist political theory ought to put it into reality. The present paper tries to briefly sketch its basic assumptions and its mode of enquiry. Researchers and students need to get their ideas and views about Marxist literary criticism clear so that they can apply its tenets to texts for insightful understanding.

Abstract:Resumo Este artigo busca evidenciar a importância das atividades jornalísticas desenvolvidas por Marx entre os anos de 1848 e 1857 para o processo de elaboração de sua crítica da economia política. Sem abandonar seus trabalhos teóricos, o jornalismo e seu envolvimento com a apreensão dos aspectos práticos da realidade social possibilitaram a Marx o refinamento de dois aspectos essenciais para a elaboração de sua crítica: a forma e o conteúdo das categorias da economia política. Por isso, para além dos desenvolvimentos teóricos daquele período contidos tanto nos Cadernos de Londres, quanto no epistolário Marx-Engels, a empiria aparece como momento fundamental da trajetória teórico-metodológica de Marx, que culminaria na elaboração dos Grundrisse nos anos de 1857-1858.

Abstract:There is distinct difference between Proudhon and Marx in the understanding of social process and the fulfillment of human ideality.Proudhon underrated the thought of understanding the social process in actual development from the bottom of heart.Marx's critique of Proudhon had a two-side meaning:on one hand,Marx made a good employment of the historical materialism which was founded in German Ideology and brought his critique a clear objective;on the other,for short of the economical studies,Marx still used the narrative manner formed in his critique of Feuerbach,which in some sense blocked his further perception on capitalist relations of production.
