Abstract:Cancer pain is very common in patients with late stage cancer, and has the most significant impact on the life quality of patients. The recently published animal models of pain induced by localized and progressive bone cancer have allowed greater insight into the mechanism underling cancer pain. The severity of bone cancer pain is largely due to the unique and complicated microenvironment of the bone where tumor-derived factors(such as prostaglandins,endothelin-1,nerve growth factor, etc) can influence bone remodeling, tumorigenesis,as well as activate or modulate nociceptors that innervate the bone.In the development of bone cancer pain, different pathological changes, such as simultaneous inflammation, nerve injury and other tissue damage can increase nociceptive stimulus transmission, and evoke severe pain. Here we summarized the progress in the study of peripheral mechanisms underlying bone cancer pain.
