Interactions between Tumor Cells and Host Microenvironment will Determine the Fate of Metastasis

Abstract:In recent years,the study of tumor microenvironment,its cellular and molecular components,and how they can affect neoplastic progression toward metastasis,has become an emerging topic in cancer research.The findings presented in this review provide comprehensive evidence that the host components play an important role in initiation as well as accomplish the whole process of metastasis,elucidate the mechanisms of different cell types/molecules which affect different aspects of metastasis,emphasize the need to further unravel the complex molecular networks and cross talk between different components of the tumor microenvironment and the tumor cells itself.A better understanding of the mechanisms of interplay in tumor microenvironment may lead to improve efficacy of current therapeutic interventions with significant clinical impact.
