Abstract:Structure functions νW2 and 2MW1 were constructed from a 3-quark-boson Ylon model with local interaction assumption. With the co ntribution from nϱ+ channel (15%) obtained by T.D. Lee, excellent simultaneous fits to νW2 and 2MW1 ep data were obtained.

Abstract:The structure functions for inelastic electron-nucleon scattering are studied in the Bjorken limit in the framework of canonical field theory. The " parton " model of Feynman is derived and the structure functions' asymptotic behavior for large energy transfers is computed. In this note we report some preliminary results derived from a field theoretical study of the structure functions WI and W2 summarizing inelastic electron nucleon scattering as defined by E w = P 47r2-g l-(dx) e+iqx <PI Jp(x)Jv(0)lP > 9cl =-'gpv-q W1(q2, v) +'(p-9 cl2 M2 p cl where I P > is a one-nucleon state with four momentum P P' J,(x) is the total hadronic electromagnetic current operator; qp is the four momentum of the virtual photon; q2 =-Q2 < 0 is th e square of the virtual photods mass and Mu = Pm q is the energy transfer to the proton in the laboratory system. Abstract:Assuming the integrals of the structure functions over the scaling variable x= -q2/2v to be finite, relations for the "parton-core" structure of nucleons are derived. These relations allow us to test the commonly used assumption about the "parton-core" of a nucleon as an equal mixture of quarks of all types and the assumptions of charge symmetry and equal distribution of the nucleon momentum among the different types of quarks.

Abstract:Domain-wall fermions (DWF) is a lattice discretization for Dirac fields that preserves continuum-like chiral and flavor symmetries that are essential in hadron physics. RIKEN-BNL-Columbia (RBC) and UKQCD Collaborations have been generating sets of realistic 2+1-flavor dynamical lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) numerical ensembles with DWF quarks with strange mass set almost exactly at its physical value via reweighing and degenerate up and down mass set as light as practical. In this report the current status of the nucleon-structure calculations using these ensembles are summarized.

Abstract:Nucleon isovector vector- and axialvector-current form factors, the renormalized isovector transversity and scalar charge, and the bare quark momentum and helicity moments of isovector structure functions are reported with improved statistics from two recent RBC+UKQCD 2+1-flavor dynamical domain-wall fermions ensembles: Iwasaki$\times$DSDR gauge $32^3\times64$ at inverse lattice spacing of 1.38 GeV and pion mass of 249 and 172 MeV.

Abstract:By using the parton momentum distribution of the bound nucleon given by the improved parton evolution model, we calculate the nuclear Drell-Yan ratios of nuclei: C, Ca, Fe and W to D. The calculated results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental data from the E772 collaboration.

Abstract:The off-shell behaviors of bound nucleons in deep inelastic lepton nucleus scattering are discussed in two scenarios with the basic constituents chosen to be baryon-mesons and quark-gluons respectively in light-cone formalism. It is found that when taking into account the effect due to internal quark structure of nucleons, the derived scaling variable for bound nucleons and the calculated nuclear structure functions are different from those in considering the baryon-mesons as the effective elementary constituents. This implies that the pure baryon-meson descriptions of nuclei give the inaccurate off-shell behavior of the bound nucleon structure function, thereby the quark-gluons seem to be the most appropriate degrees of freedom for nuclear descriptions. It is also shown that the EMC effect cannot be explained by nuclear binding effect from a sound theoretical basis.

Abstract:Heavy WIMP (weakly-interacting-massive-particle) effective field theory is used to compute the WIMP-nucleon scattering rate for general heavy electroweak multiplets through order $m_W/M$, where $m_W$ and $M$ denote the electroweak and WIMP mass scales. The lightest neutral component of such an electroweak multiplet is a candidate dark matter particle, either elementary or composite. Existing computations for certain representations of electroweak $\mathrm{SU(2)}_W\times \mathrm{U(1)}_Y$ reveal a cancellation of amplitudes from different effective operators at leading and subleading orders in $1/M$, yielding small cross sections that are below current dark matter direct detection experimental sensitivities. We extend those computations and consider all low-spin (spin-0, spin-1/2, spin-1, spin-3/2) heavy electroweak multiplets with arbitrary $\mathrm{SU(2)}_W\times \mathrm{U(1)}_Y$ representations and provide benchmark cross section results for dark matter direct detection experiments. For most self-conjugate TeV WIMPs with isospin $\le 3$, the cross sections are below current experimental limits but within reach of next-generation experiments. An exception is the case of pure electroweak doublet, where WIMPs are hidden below the neutrino floor.

Abstract:The authors show that for deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering, the conditions which validate the impulse approximation are hardly satisfied when using ordinary instant form dynamics in the rest frame of the nucleus, whereas they are well satisfied when using instant form dynamics in the infinite-momentum frame, or using light-front form dynamics in an ordinary frame. Therefore a reliable theoretical treatment of deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering should be performed in the time-ordered perturbation theory in the infinite-momentum frame, or its equivalent, the light-cone perturbation theory in an ordinary frame. To this end, the authors extend the light-cone quantum field theory to the baryon-meson field to establish a relativistic composite model of nuclei. They then apply the impulse approximation to deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering in this model. As a first approximation, they consider only the nucleon degrees of freedom and neglect the Z-graph contributions. It is found that the results seem able to explain the EMC effect in trend but overestimate the ratio of the differential cross section for a bound nucleon to that for a free nucleon by about 8%. Some comparisons of the model with several relevant models are also presented.
The semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering in the eN collinear frame

Abstract:The deeply inelastic scattering is one of the most important processes in studying the nucleon structure. Theoretical calculations for both the inclusive one and the semi-inclusive one are generally carried out in the virtual photon-nucleon collinear frame in which virtual photon does not have the transverse components. Expressions in this frame are written in relatively simple forms. Nevertheless, it is also meaningful to calculate the scattering process in the electron-nucleon collinear frame where new measurement schemes are obtained. In the present paper, we reconsider the semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering process in the electron-nucleon collinear frame and present the results of azimuthal asymmetries and quark intrinsic asymmetries. We find that the differential cross sections in these two frames are the same at leading twist level but different at higher twist level. Azimuthal asymmetries and intrinsic asymmetries in these two frames have the same forms but different kinematic factors. For the sake of completeness, both the electromagnetic and weak interactions are considered in our calculations. The neutral current measurements in the scattering process could be used as electroweak precision tests which can provide new accurate determinations of the electroweak couplings.

Abstract:Deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering is treated by considering the nucleus as a bound system of nucleons based on the light-cone quantum field theory. This method has the advantages that the impulse approximation is justified and that baryon number conservation is guaranteed. However, the ambiguities in identifying the structure function for bound nucleons in the conventional nucleonic approach seem not to have been avoided. It is also shown that a consistent calculation gives an unreasonably large Q2 dependence in the calculated nuclear structure function if one makes the most natural assumption to identify the off-"energy"-shell structure function for bound nucleons.

Abstract:We present the recent high-statistics calculations of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors with fully dynamical domain wall fermions on the 32^3x64 lattices generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations, with pion masses at roughly 297 MeV, 355 MeV and 403 MeV. We study the phenomenological fits to the momentum transfer dependence of the form factors and investigate chiral extrapolations for the Dirac radius, Pauli radius and the anomalous magnetic moment using two variants of chiral effective field theories, the small scale expansion (SSE) and covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory.

To facilitate replication of our study, as well as for general applications, a comprehensive DIS database including all recent JLab 6 GeV measurements, the extracted F2n, a modified CTEQ-JLab global PDF fit named CJ15nlo_mod, and grids with calculated proton, neutron and deuteron DIS structure functions at next-to-leading order, are discussed and made publicly available.

Abstract:In this exploratory lattice study, low-energy scattering of the $(D\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ meson system is analyzed using lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ twisted mass fermion configurations with three pion mass values. The calculation is performed within single-channel L\"uscher's finite-size formalism. The threshold scattering parameters, namely the scattering length $a_0$ and the effective range $r_0$, for the $s$-wave scattering in $J^P=1^+$ channel are extracted. For the cases in our study, the interaction between the two charmed mesons is weakly repulsive. Our lattice results therefore do not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons for the pion mass values we studied. This calculation provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$ by various experimental groups.

Abstract:We report the status of our nucleon structure calculations with 2+1 flavors of domain wall fermions on the RBC-UKQCD $32^3\times64$ gauge ensembles with the Iwasaki+DSDR action. These ensembles have a fixed lattice scale of 1/a = 1.37 GeV, and two pion masses of about 170 and 250 MeV. Preliminary results for the isovector electromagnectic form factors and their corresponding root-mean-squared (r.m.s.) radii will be presented.

Abstract:The vast bulk of visible mass emerges from nonperturbative dynamics within quantum chromodynamics (QCD) -- the strong interaction sector of the Standard Model. The past decade has revealed the three pillars that support this emergent hadron mass (EHM); namely, a nonzero gluon mass-scale, a process-independent effective charge, and dressed-quarks with constituent-like masses. Theory is now working to expose their manifold and diverse expressions in hadron observables and highlighting the types of measurements that can be made in order to validate the paradigm. In sketching some of these developments, this discussion stresses the role of EHM in forming nucleon electroweak structure and the wave functions of excited baryons through the generation of dynamical diquark correlations; producing and constraining the dilation of the leading-twist pion distribution amplitude; shaping pion and nucleon parton distribution functions -- valence, glue and sea, including the antisymmetry of antimatter; and moulding pion and proton charge and mass distributions.

Elastic and resonance structures of the nucleon from hadronic tensor in lattice QCD: implications for neutrino-nucleon scattering and hadron physics

Abstract:Understanding the transitions of nucleons into various resonance structures through electromagnetic interactions plays a pivotal role in advancing our comprehension of the strong interactions within the domain of quark confinement. Furthermore, gaining precise insights into the elastic and resonance structures of nucleons is indispensable for deciphering the physics from neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections experimental data, which remain theoretically challenging, even in the context of neutrino-nucleon interactions whose profound understanding is imperative for the neutrino oscillation experiments. One promising avenue involves the direct evaluation of the lepton-nucleon scattering cross sections across quasi-elastic, resonance, shallow-inelastic, and deep inelastic regions, which can be achieved through the hadronic tensor formalism in lattice QCD. In this work, we present the determination of the nucleon's Sachs electric form factor using the hadronic tensor formalism and verify that it is consistent with that from the conventional three-point function calculation. We additionally obtain the transition form factor from the nucleon to its first radial excited state within a finite volume. Consequently, we identify the latter with the nucleon-to-Roper transition form factor $G_E^*(Q^2)$, determine the corresponding longitudinal helicity amplitude $S_{1/2}(Q^2)$ and compare our findings with experimental measurements, for the first time using the hadronic tensor formalism. The limitations and systematic improvements of the approach are also discussed.

Abstract:A new " SK24 " nonsinglet QCD analysis of the structure functions at the NNLO approximation is performed, utilizing the global fit of the data from various charged lepton scattering experiments. We extract the valence parton distribution functions (PDFs) and provide a parametrization of them, along with the correlated errors for a wide range of x and Q2 . We compare valence PDFs and their uncertainties with those from different PDF sets provided by various groups. We also obtain valence PDFs and the strong coupling constant αs(MZ2) , taking into account the nuclear correction concerning large x as well as the target mass correction (TMC) and higher twist (HT) effects at the NNLO. In the large x region, we extract the higher twist contributions of xF3(x,Q2) , F2p(x,Q2) , and F2d(x,Q2) . We determine αs(MZ2) without and with considering the TMC and HT corrections and perform a comparison with the world average of αs(MZ2) and other reported results. Dynamical Coupled-Channel Model of $πN$ Scattering in the W $\leq$ 2 GeV Nucleon Resonance Region

Abstract:As a first step to analyze the electromagnetic meson production reactions in the nucleon resonance region, the parameters of the hadronic interactions of a dynamical coupled-channel model, developed in {\it Physics Reports 439, 193 (2007)}, are determined by fitting the $\pi N$ scattering data. The channels included in the calculations are $\pi N$, $\eta N$ and $\pi\pi N$ which has $\pi\Delta$, $\rho N$, and $\sigma N$ resonant components. The non-resonant meson-baryon interactions of the model are derived from a set of Lagrangians by using a unitary transformation method. One or two bare excited nucleon states in each of $S$, $P$, $D$, and $F$ partial waves are included to generate the resonant amplitudes in the fits. The parameters of the model are first determined by fitting as much as possible the empirical $\pi N$ elastic scattering amplitudes of SAID up to 2 GeV. We then refine and confirm the resulting parameters by directly comparing the predicted differential cross section and target polarization asymmetry with the original data of the elastic $\pi^{\pm} p \to \pi^{\pm} p$ and charge-exchange $\pi^- p \to \pi^0 n$ processes. The predicted total cross sections of $\pi N$ reactions and $\pi N\to \eta N$ reactions are also in good agreement with the data. Applications of the constructed model in analyzing the electromagnetic meson production data as well as the future developments are discussed.

Abstract:We present a detailed analysis of the a-decay fine structure in 32 deformed odd-mass nuclei from Z = 93 to Z = 102. The α-decay half-lives are systematically calculated within the multichannel cluster model (MCCM), which turns out to well reproduce the experimental data and show the neutron deformed shell structure. The branching ratios for various daughter states are investigated in the MCCM and in the WKB barrier penetration approach, respectively. It is found that the MCCM results agree well with the experimental data, while the WKB results have relatively large deviations from the experimental data for the α transitions to the high-lying members of the rotational band.
