Abstract:Single or/and multipeak solitons in plasma under relativistic electromagnetic field are reviewed. The incident electromagnetic field is allowed to have a zero or/and nonzero initial constant amplitude. Some interesting numerical results are obtained that include a high-number multipeak laser pulse and single or/and low-number multipeak plasma wake structures. It is also shown that there exists a combination of soliton and oscillation waves for plasma wake field. Also, the electron density exhibits multi-caviton structure or the combination of caviton and oscillation. A complete eigenvalue spectrum of parameters is given wherein some higher peak numbers of multipeak electromagnetic solitons in the plasma are included. Moreover, some interesting scaling laws are presented for field energy via numerical approaches. Some implications of results are discussed.

Abstract:Solitary waves in relativistic electromagnetic plasmas are obtained numerically. The longitudinal momentum of electrons has been taken into account in the problem. It is found that in the moving frame with electromagnetic field propagating the solitary waves can exist in both cases, where the vector potential frequency is larger or smaller than the plasma characteristic frequency.

Abstract:The emergence of Lorentzian soliton is studied in an ultra-relativistic degenerate dense plasma by using the bifurcation technique. Based on the quantum hydrodynamic model for electrostatic excitations, the stability of possible equilibrium points is investigated which shows the occurrence of transcritical bifurcation. At the half-stable critical point, the plasma system supports a new localized structure with different tails from the regular solitons. According to the analytical solutions and phase portrait analysis, we find the effects of critical value of plasma density and Mach number on the appearance of Lorentzian solitons. Numerical simulations are performed to further verify the existence of the chaotic motions in the perturbed plasma system. The Lorentzian solitons at the bifurcation point undergo the onset of oscillatory instability, and the route from the stationary structure to the chaos state proceeds through quasi-periodic dynamics. The work presented here is related to electrostatic waves in dense astrophysical environment such as white dwarfs, neutron stars, and the core of massive planets.

Abstract:A numerical fluid simulation investigation of the temporal evolution of a special class of traveling wave solution of the one dimensional relativistic cold plasma model is <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://reported.The" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> solutions consist of coupled electromagnetic and plasma waves in a solitary pulse shape (Phys. Rev. Lett. 68, 3172(1992); Phys. Plasmas 9, 1820(2002)).Issues pertaining to their stability, mutual collisional interactions and propagation in an inhomogeneous plasma medium are addressed. It is found that solitary pulses that consist of a single light peak trapped in a modulated density structure are long lived whereas structures with multiple peaks of trapped light develop an instability at the trailing edge. The interaction properties of two single peak structures show interesting dependencies on their relative amplitudes and propagation speeds and can be understood in terms of their propagation characteristics in an inhomogeneous plasma medium.

Abstract:We report the formation of electromagnetic solitons in over-dense plasmas in the relativistic transparency regime. By using one-dimensional and two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, the formation and basic properties of these long-lived relativistic electromagnetic solitons are studied. The predicted mechanism of soliton formation is different from the existing investigations. The latter ones are found to exist in the wake of the high-intensity laser pulse during the interaction with a low density plasma, and such solitons are made of low-frequency, spatially localized electromagnetic fields. While for the former ones, frequency of solitons formed in the relativistic transparency regime is comparable to incident laser frequency. Moreover, a threshold of plasma density under which stable solitons can be formed is analyzed. These newly predicted solitons are expected to be observed in the present-day laser-plasma experiments.

Abstract:Observations suggest that coherent radio emission from pulsars is excited in a dense pulsar plasma by curvature radiation from charge bunches. Numerous studies propose that these charge bunches are relativistic charge solitions which are solutions of the non-linear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with a group velocity dispersion (G), cubic-nonlinearity (q) and non-linear Landau damping (s). The formation of stable solitons crucially depends on the parameters G, q and s and the particle distribution function. In this work, we use realistic pulsar plasma parameters obtained from observational constraints to explore the parameter space of NLSE for two representative distribution functions (DF) of particles’ momenta: Lorentzian (long-tailed) and Gaussian (short-tailed). The choice of DF critically affects the value of |s/q|, which, in turn, determines whether solitons can form. Numerical simulations show that well-formed solitons are obtained only for small values of |s/q| ≲ 0.1 while for moderate and higher values of |s/q| ≳ 0.5 soliton formation is suppressed. Small values for |s/q| ∼ 0.1 are readily obtained for long-tailed DF for a wide range of plasma temperatures. On the other hand, short-tailed DF provides these values only for some narrow range of plasma parameters. Thus, the presence of a prominent high-energy tail in the particle DF favours soliton formation for a wide range of plasma parameters. Besides pair plasma, we also include an iron ion component and find that they make a negligible contribution in either modifying the NLSE coefficients or contributing to charge separation.

Abstract:Two-dimensional (2D) relativistic magnetosonic solitons in the negative-ion-rich plasma consisting of positive ions Ar+, negative ions SF6- and electrons are investigated in the presence of an applied magnetic field B0 and can be described by a Kadomtsev–Petviashvili (KP) equation in the weakly relativistic limit. The ratio of positive ion density to negative ion density has a marked influence on the amplitudeΦm and width W of the steady-state KP soliton. The interaction law of the nontrivial solitons with rich web structure is studied by the Wronskian determinant method.

Abstract:Considering the limiting weak nonlinearity, we obtained the solution of the coupled equations describing the interaction of ultraintense laser with cold transparent multicomponent plasma. It was indicated that the ions tend to accumulate at the center of the soliton and have large velocity when we consider the mobile ions in the multicomponent plasma, which shows that the result is different from that of the Berezhiani's analysis. The change of proportion of ions in the plasma has effects on the amplitude of vector potential and the maximum velocity of the soliton.
Ion-acoustic solitons in a relativistic Fermi plasma at finite temperature

Abstract:The theory of ion-acoustic solitons in nonrelativistic fully degenerate plasmas and nonrelativistic and ultra-relativistic degenerate plasmas at low temperatures is known. We consider a multi-component relativistic degenerate electron-positron-ion plasma at finite temperatures. Specifically, we focus on the intermediate region where the particle's thermal energy $(k_BT)$ and the rest-mass energy $(mc^2)$ do not differ significantly, i.e., $k_BT\sim mc^2$. However, the Fermi energy $(k_BT_F)$ is larger than the thermal energy and the normalized chemical energy ($\xi=\mu/k_BT$) is positive and finite. Two different parameter regimes with $\beta\equiv k_BT/mc^2<1$ and $\beta>1$, relevant for astrophysical plasmas, are defined, and the existence of small amplitude ion-acoustic solitons in these regimes are studied, including the critical cases where the known KdV (Korteweg-de Vries) theory fails. We show that while the solitons with both the positive (compressive) and negative (rarefactive) potentials coexist in the case of $\beta<1$, only compressive solitons can exist in the other regime $(\beta>1)$. Furthermore, while the rarefactive solitons within the parameter domains of $\beta$ and $\xi$ can evolve with increasing amplitude and hence increasing energy, the energy of compressive solitons reaches a steady state.

Abstract:A set of exact one-dimensional solutions to coupled nonlinear equations describing the propagation of a relativistic ultrashort circularly polarized laser pulse in a cold collisionless and bounded plasma where electrons have an initial velocity in the laser propagating direction is presented. The solutions investigated here are in the form of quickly moving envelop solitons at a propagation velocity comparable to the light speed. The features of solitons in both underdense and overdense plasmas with electrons having different given initial velocities in the laser propagating direction are described. It is found that the amplitude of solitons is larger and soliton width shorter in plasmas where electrons have a larger initial velocity. In overdense plasmas, soliton duration is shorter, the amplitude higher than that in underdense plasmas where electrons have the same initial velocity.

Abstract:Relativistic solitons arising from the interaction of an intense laser pulse with underdense plasmas are investigated. We show the formation and evolution of the relativistic solitons in a collisionless cold plasma with two dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. Such a kind of solitons will evolve into postsolitons if the time scale is longer than the ion response time. Generally, a substantial part of the pulse energy is transformed into solitons during the soliton formation. This fairly high efficiency of electromagnetic energy transformation can play an important role in the interaction between the laser pulse and the plasma. The energy exchange between the electromagnetic field and the kinetic energy of the soliton is discussed. In homogeneous plasmas, the solitons tend to stay close to the region where they are generated and dissipate due to the interaction with surrounding particles eventually. While the laser pulse propagates through inhomogeneous plasmas, the solitons are accelerated along the plasma density gradient towards lower density.

Abstract:A theory for nonlinear excitations in quantum plasmas is presented for narrow-gap semiconductors by considering the combined effects of quantum and pseudorelativity. The system is governed by a coupled Klein-Gordon equation for the collective wave functions of the conduction electrons and Poisson's equation for the electrostatic potential. This gives a closed system, including the effects of charge separation, quantum tunneling, and pseudorelativity. By choosing the typical parameters of semiconductor InSb, the quasistationary soliton solution, which is a multipeaked dark soliton, is obtained numerically and shows depleted electron densities correlated with a localized potential. The dynamical simulation result shows that the dark soliton is stable and has a multipeaked profile, which is consistent with the quasistationary solution. The present model and results may be useful in understanding the nonlinear properties of semiconductor plasma on an ultrafast time scale.

Abstract:Abstract The interaction between two co-propagating electromagnetic pulses in a magnetized plasma is considered, from first principles, relying on a fluid-Maxwell model. Two circularly polarized wavepackets by same group velocities are considered, characterized by opposite circular polarization, to be identified as left-hand- or right hand circularly polarized (i.e. LCP or RCP, respectively). A multiscale perturbative technique is adopted, leading to a pair of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger-type (NLS) equations for the modulated amplitudes of the respective vector potentials associated with the two pulses. Systematic analysis reveals the existence, in certain frequency bands, of three different types of vector soliton modes: an LCP-bright/RCP-bright coupled soliton pair state, an LCP-bright/RCP-dark soliton pair, and an LCP-dark/RCP-bright soliton pair. The value of the magnetic field plays a critical role since it determines the type of vector solitons that may occur in certain frequency bands and, on the other hand, it affects the width of those frequency bands that are characterized by a specific type of vector soliton (type). The magnetic field (strength) thus arises as an order parameter, affecting the existence conditions of each type of solution (in the form of an envelope soliton pair). An exhaustive parametric investigation is presented in terms of frequency bands and in a wide range of magnetic field (strength) values, leading to results that may be applicable in beam-plasma interaction scenarios as well as in space plasmas and in the ionosphere.

Abstract:<p>In this theoretical study, we investigate the amplitude modulation and envelop soliton formation in a dense plasma when such a plasma interacts with a strong laser beam. We have made use of the symbolic simulation technique to find the modulation instability of an electrostatic wave with higher orders of non‐linearity. We identified the range of wavenumber in which such non‐linearity is important. Furthermore, we have analysed the formation of envelope soliton of waves localized in space. The results obtained here will be helpful in interpreting different phenomena that arise in laser plasma interaction. The importance of the relativistic contribution of streaming particles is discussed alongside the parametric influences experienced by the plasma particles.</p>

Abstract:In the presence of an applied static and uniform magnetic field, a cylindrical Kadomtsev–Petviashivili equation is derived for a relativistic electromagnetic solitary wave propagating in collisionless plasma consisting electrons, positrons, and ions in the case of weak relativistic limit. This equation is solved in a stationary frame to obtain explicit expression for the velocity, amplitude and width of solitons. The amplitude of the solitary wave has a maximum value at a critical αc of the ratio of the ion equilibrium density to the electron one, and it increases as the applied magnetic field becomes larger.

Abstract:In a magnetized e-p-i plasma with two-electron temperatures, the (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation for the ion-acoustic envelope solitons is hereby investigated. Bright and dark soliton solutions are both obtained. It is found that the soliton amplitude is inversely related to P, Q and R, with P, Q and R respectively as the coefficients of the dispersive term, nonlinear term and combined effect of the transverse perturbation and magnetic field. Head-on interactions are displayed, and with Q and R decreasing, can be transferred into the overtaking ones. Bright bound-state solitons are obtained, and the interaction period decreases with Q increasing. Both the head-on and overtaking interactions between the two dark solitons are displayed, and such a head-on interaction can be transformed into the overtaking one with R increasing. Upon the introduction of the external perturbation, the developed and weak chaos are observed. Phase projections and power spectra are presented. Difference between the two chaotic motions roots in the inequality between the nonlinear and perturbed terms. Developed chaos can be weakened with Q decreasing, or with the frequency of external perturbation increasing.

Abstract:The generation of relativistic electromagnetic solitons in plasma with spatiotemporal density modulation is investigated. When two counter-propagating laser pulses overlap in underdense plasma, the interaction between the pulses and plasma modulates the electron and ion densities resulting in localized, stable, long-living relativistic electromagnetic solitons. They are caused by the Stimulated Raman Scattering instability. The dependence of the formation of relativistic electromagnetic solitons on the ion motion, plasma parameters, and laser parameters is studied by particle-in-cell simulations as well.
