Expression of Survivin in Bladder Transitional Cell Carcinoma and Its Relationship with Expression of Fas/FasL

Abstract:Objective: To study the expression of Survivin in bladder transitional cell carcinoma (BTCC) and the relationship with pathological stage of BTCC and Fas/FasL system. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Survivin, Fas and Fasl in BTCC (n = 64), bladder benign lesions (n = 15) and normal bladder mucosa (n = 12). Results: The positive expression of survivin in BTCC(93.8%) was higher than bladder benign lesions(66.7%) and normal bladder mucosa had no expression,the difference was statistical significance (P < 0.01). The expression level of survivin was strongly relatated with pathological grade. The Fas expression rate among BTCC, bladder benign lesions and normal bladder mucosa was 50%, 80% and 100% respectively.Correspondingly,the FasL expression level among BTCC, bladder benign lesions and normal bladder mucosa was 90.6%,60% and 16.7%.The expression of Survivin in the BTCC was up regulated and had a tight relationship with the expression of Fas/FasL. Conclusion: The study suggest that survivin is relatated with the malignancy of BTCC and cooperating with Fas/FasL to promote the initiation and progression of BTCC.
